There’s pack of Sharktor pups at the riverside, all stampeding to get into the water, and escape the heat of the beating sun. At the very back of this stampede of bright eyes is the smallest of the village’s children, Shayin.

Shayin was adored all around the village, and was the chief’s only son. Everyone kept an eye out for the rascal, who was known for stealing sweets from the market. Noone seemed to mind, however. 

As the small child reached the water, he turned... only to see his village under attack. All the adults were fleeing, and were struck down, one after another... His parents among the few he saw, shot dead by humans. He didn’t know what to do. The attackers were so big, and he was small.. He looked around, and all the others were either gone or.. dead in the water. He was alone, and tears welled up in his eyes.. Two attackers saw him, and began running towards him, before.. they were downed by a tall, dark assailant, who swooped down, snapping their backs as he landed down on them. He then lunged for Shayin, and took the child in his arms as he dashed into the distance.. away from the carnage. Shayin cried as he saw his village burn to the ground while the figure took him away, the image of his parents bleeding corpses seared into his memory.
