The Gordian knot wasn’t solved when it got cut by a sword; it just became detritus like so many other fascinating artifacts from that era and other centuries after it all of which, funny enough, got their art stolen by Victorians who selectively defaced everything from genitals to non-white ethnic facial features in order to feel more comfortable with them: nothing but shattered pieces of something that could have been studied and one day understood for re-use. Now the future’s responsibility is to decide whether to try reconstruct it all in the hopes of learning from the corrupt history fed to us by the equally-corrupt past hegemonies whose artifacts have been so shattered, or use those pieces to forge something new. I’m obviously more in favor of the latter: newer, fresher, recycling-friendly forms of artistic expression taking shards from the past. So, young punk, then, I must ask: what of you? What of YOUR arts?
