I can’t fully express my gratitude to Sandra and Martin who invited me to the the Cernuta Farm about 30 minutes north of Kobarid at the foothills of the Alps in Log Pod Mangartom. I had reached out to Hisa Polonka about dining there and possible farm visit suggestions. Sandra responded who runs front of house and we began corresponding. She invited me to visit the farm which is owned by Martin’s parents and he happens to be the chef of Hisa Polonka and her boyfriend. They greeted me with Istrian sparkling wine, salad fresh from the garden, a selection of the farm’s cheeses, freshly dug and boiled potatoes and bread. Life couldn’t get better. We lingered for hours talking and eating on the porch gazing at the mountains. They make a variety of fresh milk sheep cheeses like ricotta to aged cheeses like the two month old one we tried. I was introduced to the yummy tradition of taking the salty like ricotta called skuta and smearing it on potatoes. #kmetijacernuta #sheepdairy #slovenianfarm #sheepcheese #sheepsmilkcheese #slovenia @hisapolonka @hisafranko #hospitality (at Log pod Mangartom) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzu6v6CIV0o/?igshid=959olg3kssn0
