Shei Phan
Shei Phan for One Hyped Magazine
~ America (21) ~
by Jared Kinley
1. Shei’s HIV Awareness Shot
Shei’s picture is a masterpiece, plain and simple. The pose is absolutely divine due to the way her insane backbend makes it look as though she’s in the middle of some ethereal interpretive dance. I also admire her creative choice in having two different wings since it accentuates her hair and also adds dimension to the shot, and the whirling feathers are so gorgeous. Her face is just breathtaking as well, she found her light and the blissful yet pained expression is unbelievably beautiful. This shot of Shei is one of my all time favorites from all 24 cycles of the series!
Note: Shei would still be in the number one spot with the paired version of this shot, but the solo version is my favorite between the two.
My top 10 contestants from America’s Next Top Model:
10. Sophie Sumner (Cycle 18)
9. Fo Porter (Cycle 12)
8. Shei Phan (Cycle 21)
7. Nina Burns (Cycle 20)
6. Winnie Harlow/Chantelle Young (Cycle 21)
5. Will Jardell (Cycle 21)
AND Alisha White (Cycle 18)
4. Jiana Davis (Cycle 20)
3. Sheena Sakai (Cycle 11 and All Stars)
2. Lenox Tillman (Cycle 21)
1. Allison Harvard (Cycle 12 and All Stars)
She’s fan-favourite for a reason and she was robbed twice. She’s gorgeous, kind, unique and I am high-key in love with her.
#2 – Shei’s HIV Awareness Shot
The top 2 this cycle were incredibly close; probably the closest since Cycle 13. I went back and forth between the two of them, and in the end I decided that since both contain stunning feats of modelling, I personally preferred the setting and styling of the MCM shoot over this one. So this shot only really misses the top spot due to being a weaker concept. Shei cannot be faulted at all; this is divine. It is one of the most stunning poses. That back arch is everything, with the breathlessness just being the icing on top of it. Shei being the one to suggest the two-toned wings is all the better too, as it shows she had a direct creative impact. Even if the paired shot was technically the final product, it is this solo shot that deserved all the praise.
