#shein hate

I've seen this debate on Tumblr today and I have to give my two cents to it:

People justify buying from cheap fast fashion labels like shein by saying they cannot afford more sustainable options.

And yes, I get it. I wore second-hand clothes from aunts and cousins my whole childhood. And even today, I can't afford to buy new clothes every month. So there are two options for me:

1. Buy clothes from shein that'll fall apart after wearing them twice

Or

2. Give up some of my comfort so children don't have to produce my clothes.

I get that people with lower funds still want fashionable clothes and follow trends but when it comes at the expense of exploited HUMANS, that's where I draw the line. You cannot make a change in the world if you're not willing to give up the comfort of having people suffer for your overconsumption.

Okay but can people understand that Shein is WORSE??? Like, Shein is very very very BAD??? Hating Shein is not a trend, it is morals??? Yes most clothing stores in the us are fast fashion but Shein is still worse??? You can shop at Shein and still hate them???

Just because you shop somewhere or are forced into a certain situation or benefit from a situation doesn’t mean you can’t think critically and judge the situation.

All of this because some asshats were bragging about their Shein crochet pieces

I don’t even get the appeal for people who have other options like

Its Shein. You literally have enough money to have custom pieces commissioned that will last DECADES longer than anything Shein will dump out
