The Crux is one year old and maybe, just maybe, so am I.
Last year, back when my main blog was still an abandoned roleplaying blog with like 20 followers and my English was rusty as fuck for the lack of usage, I posted this thing. Now I'm a hundred-ish followers blog with a hundred-ish followers Joe Keery sideblog, The Crux is one year old (yay!), life has happened and changed, Djo is bigger as a musician, etc etc. you, fellow fan, know the drill. But I'd like to say one thing to that 29 year old bitch (me):
We dropped everything to go back to studying sound and right now we kinda suck at it and we have money for shit and we have zero equipment and being a beginner is a fucking nightmare sometimes– but none of it is a "faint memory of our glorious early 20s" anymore. We're doing it right now. We're trying.
Keep listening to music that makes you feel alive, surrounding yourself with people and influences that inspire you, put your baggage inside glittery suitcases and go ahead. You're not gonna let fear take that.
Also keep telling jokes and being a slut on the internet. (it'll give you great friends)
first of all, thank you @allsteddie, @machtaholic and @queenofshenanigans for tagging me!
I'm not doing a proper WIP weekend this week, but I saw Jess's post and I thought it was a good idea to make a similar one (thank you for the idea! 💜)
Under the cut you'll see the updates on the current state of all my WIPs (with links for the respective tags), how close they are to being posted and a little comment on upcoming projects. (no snippet because it already turned out pretty long)
💍 Someday I Suppose: (Steddie | M) I'm very close to the finish line. Despite being a 5+1 fic, I think it'll be divided into three chapters (it'll make sense I promise!), but I'll probably post all at once. I think I have like 80% of it written.
💐 Something Vengeful, Something Blue: (Henderhop with side steddie | T) RISE UP MY HENDERHOP LOVELIES! I want to post this fic soon, too! I have 2 chapters ready to be edited (I think it'll have around 5). I always feel nervous about writing a ship for the first time but I'm happy with how much fun and having and how good the snippets are being received. The Henderhop fandom is the sweetest thing and really special to me. I'll probably post some extra things for it, like a playlist, some graphics... I did a lot of things for it and I think I should share.
⛪ Jesus Christ (That's a Pretty Face): (Steddie | E) I'm pretty sure I'm past half of this fic, so it's time to go back to the first chapters, edit them and see if I look for beta readers. (I'm a little embarrassed because as we speak I have around 45k words and it's a lot of work for someone to proofread for free 😭) — anyway, I'm happy with how this is going. I have the next chapters outlined and a probable ending, so I feel like it's a good time to prepare it to be posted!
👑 Garage Band King: (Steddie | M or E) I haven't worked on this for a few weeks, but I'm glad with where it's going. I'll probably wait a little to post it though. I'm rusty with rivals to lovers dynamics! It has been a little hard (but also funny) to figure out this Steve and this Eddie, they're so feisty! 👀
Do I have other projects going on? Well, yes. Sort of. I'm working on some worldbuilding for a Steampunk AU of Stranger Things, but I'm not writing the story yet. I hope it's gonna happen, but it's a future plan. I'm also planning some oneshots for steddie bingo prompts and for some reason I'm leaning a lot into fantasy! It's a genre I explored very little as a writer and I'm excited and scared to do so. Let's see what comes out of those ideas!
Do I have something paused? Yess! My Sound tech Steve fic (aka 🎸) and my 2010s Buckingham fic. I got a little lost in both of them, so I decided to take some time. But I plan on continuing (... for those who don't know, I started a sound designer course and just this week we're getting into the epic highs and lows of analogical mixing desks. I kinda hate it here.)
I'm going through a rough moment in my personal life, mostly because of family + financial situations, so I'm not worrying about keeping up with writing goals (which is why I'm writing waaaaaay slower than I was last year). Also, as I mentioned, I'm back to studying and my brain's engines are kinda tired. Shame on me for sleeping with Ellipsus open! On the bright side, I've been reading more than I usually do, which is always great.
That's it for now, folks!
💜 Thanks @strangerthingswritersguild for all the daily incentives!
I'm not ready for when djo + crew hit MY CITY. especially bc no concert for me just thinking that we'll be breathing the same polluted air and that if they have time they'll certainly be hanging at spots that are so dear to me
South America & Mexico Djour was so special to me!!!
I've been waiting for this since the dates were announced and it delivered!! we got 3738291992473828 funny beanies, tank tops, cruising through cities, soccer jerseys (!!!), beautiful crowds with unforgettable chants and gifts for Djo, overall silliness and smuttiness. It was really fun sharing this moment with y'all, my dear djoomfs. Thanks everyone for posting so much content and being enthusiastic! Of course I hope Djo comes back to South AM with more solo dates (!!!!), but I'm glad they enjoyed their time here, that they could dive a little bit into each country's cultures and love. As a latina, it's always so fun when my have a good experience with the nuances of our culture, but this was special. Let's keep sharing content and memes and laughter and thirsty remarks and overall love for Djo's music.
Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Brazil and Mexico: WE SHOWED UP!!!! (and we were literally hot lmao) 🇦🇷🇨🇱🇨🇴🇧🇷🇲🇽
(it was really hard to choose 10 pics for this post)
Djo concerts are truly a beauty. I love watching the live streams because then I can pay attention to small details as the camera focuses on different parts. The whole band (and their techs) is so smooth! It's like they woke up one day knowing how to operate all that paraphernalia lmao
and I gotta love how crowded their stage is with instruments and equipment and etc. it's always entertaining to watch them rotating over everything.
(and particularly, as someone who's a big enthusiast of sound equipment, it's just great to observe the way they work. no wonder I had my eureka moment that got me back to studying sound and working hard to make it my career at some point while listening to Joe and Adam nerdying out on the Tape Notes podcast. I'll forever be grateful!)
okay, I can't give any answer other than Steve Harrington, even if it's cliché. Damn, I remember watching s1 of Stranger Things and going from "this dude makes me think of James Spader in Pretty in Pink and I don't fucking like him." to "oh. Oh."
20 year old me was not impressed by him at first (tho she noticed he's fine asf. what can I say? I like a man that has a whole ass station wagon situation going on his back) But oh, I grew to like him so much. Dustin was my fav of the kids, so when Steve was paired up with him, it was the final nail on my coffin. Consider me sold and in love.
Steve is, in every way, a sweetheart. I love characters who grow and change but keep their personality solid. He never stopped being petty and ironic and I love that. His arc was played beautifully by Joe.
(me when it's monday and I have to work again)
BUT I'll give Kurt Kunkle an honorable mention. His writing is so fascinating. He gave me secondhand embarrassment when I first saw Spree, he made me think a whole lot. I have a big interest in true crime, so I read extensively about all sorts of killers and I'm 200% sure that if Kurt was real he would have a hell of a cult following. Like, massive. He's written and played in a way that feels really true (and really close to some real cases I know). It's really cool when a character gets you to go "oooh if he was real he'd be linked to x and y" while also enjoying the fictional universe they're in. Plus he's fucking funny.
