PERHAPS  BECAUSE  he  was  no  longer  that  which  should  be,  sensing  the  shifts  in  the  world  came  more  naturally  to  him than  it  did  before.  before,  when  he  breathed  air  &  was  not  yet  dust,  but  flesh.  when  he  had  no  attachment  to  the  world  around,  not  like  this,  &  could  only  hope  to  keep  up  by  being  smarter  than  it  was.  now  he  existed  outside  the  bounds  of  possibility,  drawn  from  mortal  flesh  &  cursed  with  life  that  was  not  living.  once  he  might  have  cared.  once,  he  might  have  thought  to  play  the  game  &  deal  with  the  hand  that  he  had  been  dealt.

he  no  longer  deliberately  bucked  at  the  fetters  that  tried  to  stop  him.  that  tried  their  best  to  prevent  him  from  completing  his  goals.  if  the  world  was  crumbling,  once  he  might  have  shattered  with  it.  now  he  simply  looked  on  with  peerless  eyes  that  were  more  two  pinpoints  of  deep,  unsettling  bleakness  than  instruments  of  sight.  the  reaper  raised  a  shoulder,  arms  coming  to  cross,   ❛   it’d  be  boring  otherwise.   ❜
