Primotalii is pretty sharp!
But, as he had initially stayed with the Witch and not followed other cookies along to established civilizations, he never had the formal education that they could have provided. He’s learned stuff on his own, for the most part. He embodies the ‘street smart, not book smart’ — as he had no other choice.
Primotalii is functionally illiterate for quite the while.
He does attempt to teach himself! With… limited success!
(One day, he breaks into an academy’s grand library to go through and read as many of the books as he can — even if he can’t fully understand it. In doing so, he meets the headmaster, who, while freaked out at first, does eventually allow Primotalii to indulge his immense curiosity. Soon enough, the headmaster does notice the difficulty which Primotalii was having with each book, and realizes of his illiteracy. The headmaster takes on the task of teaching him properly.)
