The Evil Dead was sold to Palace because of a mistake made by Steve Woolley. He had actually stepped into the wrong preview theatre which was airing The Evil Dead. Woolley was so captivated by the opening shot that he stayed to watch the whole film which led to it being sold to Palace Pictures.

Members of the Tennessee State Film Commission came to visit the cabin about a month into shooting The Evil Dead. The well dressed individuals who came in suits, dresses and heels had to walk down a half mile in the mud and were horrified to see the cabin doused in fake blood with artifacts such as the shotgun lying on the cabin floor.
