lips    morph    into    a    slow    smile    where    they’re    pressed    to    the    artful    curve    of    caroline’s    neck   ,    palms    mapping    over    every    inch    of    her    body    with    the    hunger    of    a    man    starved    .    it    had    only    been    this    morning    that    he    had    last    held    her    like     this   ,     but    even    that    minimal    time    apart    was    enough    to    make    him     crave    her    ;    to    long    for    the    moment    when    he    could    put    his    weapons    and    inhibitions    down    for    a    night   ,    and    be    a    lover    instead    .     to    know    that    the    sentiment    was    shared    between    them    caused    a    spark    of    unbridled    joy    to     bloom    within    his    ribcage   ,     chasing    away    the   inky    darkness    that    clung    to    his    heart    back    into    the    shadows    with    it’s    soothing    light    .

his    palms    smooth    over    her    curves   ,    catching    the    hem    of    her    shirt    to    drag    it    up    her    torso    and    over    her    head   ,    yearning    for    the    intimate    press    of    skin    on    skin    .    “    that    makes    two    of    us    .    ”    murmured    words    are    muffled    against    the    soft    expanse    of    her    skin   ,    lips    continuing    to    press    lingering    kisses    upon    every    bit    of    skin    he    can    reach    as    he    sheds    them    both    of    their    layers    of    clothing    .    palm    curves    around    the    line    of    her    jaw    to    encourage    her    to    meet    his    gaze    ,     nothing    but    warmth    and    adoration    brimming    in    his    eyes    as    he    drinks    her    in    like    this    ;    savors    this    moment    for    when    he    really    needs    it    ,     when    he    needs    a    reminder    of    what    he’s    fighting    for    amidst    the    unrelenting    hell    they    were    submerged    in    .    lips stretch    into    a    grin    as    his    grip    upon    her    shifts   ,    catching    the    back    of    her    thighs    as    he    lifts    her    of    her    feet   ,     encouraging    her    to    wrap    her    legs    around    him    as    he    walks    them    towards    the    bed    in    the    far    corner    of    the    room    .    “    guess    we’ll    just    have    to    make    up    for    lost    time    ,    huh    ?    “

                         she  tries  to           STAY  STRONG ,             she  really  does .             but  when  caroline  asks  her  how  she’s  doing ,             her  facade  crackles  and  tears  begin  rolling  down  her  cheeks .           (            however  she  immediately  feels  bad  and  insecure  about  it           )            wiping  her  tears  away  and  looking  to  the  side  to  avoid  eye  contact .         ’           uh ,           i’m      fine .           it’s  just     -     been  a  rough  couple  months .           ’          a  rough  couple  of  years  to  be  more  exact .

“no,” she replied with a shake of her head.  “no, no.  not at all.”  then she paused, actually having to think about it, hoping that her memory was serving her well instead of leading her astray.  “i mean, you were dancing a lot.  and belting whatever song was on the stereo at the top of your lungs.”  but she wouldn’t count that as being completely drunk.  that was a completely normal thing to do!  lots of people sang along and danced to the music, drinking or not.  “i’m honestly not even sure how much you drank.  i definitely saw you refill twice but, i don’t know.  do you feel like you were that drunk?”

rapunzel sighed, resting her head against the wall of the room as she sat on the floor; the red solo cup in her hand had been empty for about an hour, and she’d made no move to refill it any time soon.  she wasn’t sit, she was more tired.  emotional.  run-down, even; who would have thought her very first high school party would have been as draining as it was?  “it’s really hard,” she admitted in a slightly slurred voice.  “and overwhelming.  being new, i mean.  it’s just so hard; at least you all have your friends and you know your place and where you fit.  and look at me, sitting on the floor in an empty room drunk as a skunk at a party.  alone.”
