First Lines

I was tagged by @mikleohno. I’m afraid I only have ten works up for Zestiria, so I guess I can give you some teasers for some WIPs :)

1. In Your Eyes (I’m Still Me)
“ There is a strange sort of ambiance to the old ruins. A subtle hum of power mingles with the soft whispers of the wind. Symonne could tell even before the Lord of Calamity settled in them that they were once the stage for a very important and devastating event.“
2. At Rayfalke’s Peak (We Stay)
“The mountain erupts with noise and commotion. A loud crash sounds as rocks and dust scatter in all directions.“
3. In the Eye of the Beholder
“Sorey is unsure what possessed him to go to the lake today. It is a Monday, which is one of the longest days of his workweek, and usually at this time he has nothing more in mind than getting home and collapsing on his bed. Visiting the lake is something he reserves for Thursdays, when he gets off early and can sit by the edge of the water (or ice, at this time of year) and read one of the many books he owns.” (this one got too long so I cut it off here)
4. I’ll Love You for a Thousand More
“ When Sorey sits down and closes his eyes in what will become his tomb for a thousand years, he is alone.”
5. At Least It’s Not a Dog
“ It is beginning to snow again.”
6. Why Mikleo Should Just Take Online Courses
“When Mikleo wakes up, he is already late.“

“Mikleo, come on!“
8. Puppy
“ Lailah is spending an evening at home, safe in her chair with a cup of tea and a lovely pair of half-knitted gloves when her phone rings. She is focused, and so it startles her out of her thoughts. She blinks, confused, then glances at the clock. It's late in the evening. Who could be calling her now?”
9. Simple
“The world is a beautiful place. Sorey as always thought so. Even from the far reaches of Elysia, safe in Gramp's enveloping domain, he was hungry for the beauty of the world around him. At the time, he would have given anything to save that world. He supposes that in a way, he did.”
10. Gag Reel
“It's the first day of filming and they're already screwing up. Sorey is just happy it's not him doing it.”

11. That Mermaid!AU I’m working on purely for stress relief
“The air is comfortably cool outside, the sun rising over the ocean. Sorey steps out on deck and just looks at it for a long moment.”
12. A birthday present for a friend that crosses over with OnS (Specifically Tainted!AU meets OnS)
“Sorey has faced a lot of darkness in his life, but none of it has been quite so literal as this. A swallowing, all encompassing emptiness, and yet it does not scare him. It has been a long time since anything truly scared him, but he thinks that were it still possible, this would fit the bill.”
13. The one with the cheesy pickup lines
“At first, Mikleo does not understand what is happening.”
14. The one in which Mikleo is a lake (not the first line, but it’s still a patchwork outline. This is the beginning to one of the first actually written parts)
“"So how did you become a lake?" "What?" "I mean..." Sorey gestures quite uselessly to the water's surface. "You said you're a seraph, right? So how did you, uh, end up here?" Mikleo sighs a laugh in his head. "Don't sound so scared." Sorey chuckles. "I'm a little out of my depth here." "It's alright." The water brushes at his feet. "I did it to save someone."“
15. The next chapter of Emerald (because I ran out of things I’m actively working on)
“Mikleo stays inside the house the next morning, while the young knight goes exploring around the shrine with Natalie and Mason in tow. He goes over what leather he already has and sews up the beginnings of a sleeping bag with it. Then he looks through his supplies for whatever food will survive being out in the open for a few days. He cannot show, much less share with her, the food he has which requires ice and cold to stay fresh. Unfortunately, this limits him to dried meat, bread, cheese, and some preserved fruit he was saving for a special occasion.”
11-15 are still in progress, and are subject to change until I post them.
Well, that’s it. I don’t really see much of a pattern. Maybe I’ll look closer later. I’m going to tag some authors I really like, but I’m not sure if they’ve done it before.
