I FINALLY have accomplished my goal of doing all the toy canon vintage She Ra characters with this Angella custom. She was the character I was heavily dreading on working on the most due to how much I dislike the Filmation version of her character design, as well as how drastically different she is to the toy version of Angella. So Angella in the Filmation series was written to be Glimmer's mother but the initial toy canon of Angella was that she was She Ra's random angel friend who was queen of a separate nation. For all of my She Ra dolls, I usually picked the toy design as the basis of the custom but used the Filmation series to better add detail since the overlap helped with the same face syndrome that a lot of dolls had. It's something I tried to work from when I saw the prototypes of the other characters that was a healthy mix of Toy canon and Filmation canon. But Angella's design was changed so drastically I opted to lean heavily into the toy design and the mini comic that came with her where she had long reddish strawberry hair and pink lips, as I felt this made her much more distinct than the weird yellow blonde bob that Filmation went with. Since this was my last of the She Ra characters with a toy design from the 1985-1987 run, I decided to really lean into the 80s toy aesthetic of having no black paint and blue eyeshadow as I feel that would make her more angelic and otherworldly compared to my other She Ra dolls. I'm really happy with how the colours evoke that toy aesthetic too. Anyway I'm happy I finally accomplished doing modern versions of all the characters from the She Ra 80s toy line to go with my 2016 SDCC She Ra as she's definitely one of my most favourite modern figures from Mattel. It's also has been a fun exercise to reimagine an 80s doll line as modern dolls since I stuck with only saran hair colours, and worked with the limited sculpt selection and paint. #angella #repaint #shera #princessofpower #motu #sherasdcc2016 #wewantmoremotu #wewantmoreshera https://www.instagram.com/p/CTFIeEGhp73/?utm_medium=tumblr
