VCA GRADSHOW 2015 information blast
VCA GRADSHOW Information blast and frequently asked questions
Who can show?
All graduating VCA students from both the 2 year and 3 year diploma programmes are encouraged to include work in the exhibition. (If you are short a credit or two, but expect to graduate next year, you are welcome to celebrate by showing with your peers this year).
Where is the show?
We have rented the entire Student Union facility, which includes the Marquee pub, Coffee Loft and Atrium.
When is the show?
Opening Ceremony/Awards: Thursday April 30, 7-9pm followed by after-party until 12 Show Hours: Thursday 4-12, Friday 10-6
How many works may each artist exhibit?
Every graduating student is allowed to submit up to: 4—2D works 4—3D works 4—digital works (of course, you are welcome to bring in just one piece, if you want) Participating artists are guaranteed to be represented by at least one piece. Depending on the size of individual works and the number of total submissions, additional pieces will be included.
Do I have to submit work that was part of a course assignment, or can I bring in a piece that I did independently? Select your best pieces, whether they be based on a school assignment or not.
Is there a maximum size of work?
No. But if you submit a huge piece (4x8’ for example) you are likely to have only that piece in the show. It’s simply a matter of space. I want to submit 4 pieces from a series. The work doesn’t make sense unless they are all together. This makes me feel uncomfortable (and a bit irritated.) Remember, the curatorial team is made up of your Professors. We are all artists and want nothing more than to give you a chance to show the world how awesome you are. We will make every effort to keep series together. However, it is recommended that you indicate your order of preference for inclusion (for example, “Bunny with Skull” is my #1 choice, “Octopus with Pudding” #2, etc.)
If a number of my pieces get into the show, will they be installed together?
We understand that works clustered by artist have the potential to pack a bigger bang. We will make every effort to keep works together. However, if the work would be more much more sympathetically installed in a different context (for example a quiet drawing with other quiet work, as opposed to being amongst bold paintings) the curatorial team would like to reserve the right to do so.
When and where do I deliver my art work? Art work is delivered in person to The Marquee Pub, upstairs conference rooms at the Student Union Center (follow the signage) on Thursday April 23rd & Friday 24th between 10-4 Please put clearly-written labels on the back of your work
Boy-oh-boy, this sounds great, but how can I get involved?
Glad you asked. The show can’t happen without a great deal of student/faculty participation. Whether you are exhibiting or not, we need help in the following areas: 2nd & 3rd year student representatives Display unit construction (prior to show and on site) Fundraising Press and publicity Collection of artist names for labelling work Collection of work on site Setting up display panels, lighting, etc. Installing work (actually hanging/installing artwork) Monitoring exhibition Taking the show down! We really need everyone to pitch in collecting their work, removing panels, etc. Job Sign-up sheets posted week 10 on notice board beside A108
