Be my victim!
Happy Halloween folks, this is my favorite time of year. The air is chilly the leaves are beautiful and the vibes are immaculate.
Candyman is one of those horror movies that stand up well nowadays especially because it’s very based. But also the issues and themes it decides to tackle are still very relevant. I love the fact that horror movies can be so transgressive as a medium. Another one that comes to mind is my bloody valentine and its critiques on capitalism and commercialism, it is super fun that they use the holiday to tell that story.
It’s why I was happy that candyman got another film much later after its initial release. It talks about systemic racism and the cycles it forms in both movies as a narrative through line. You would have to be a different form of dense to not understand its messaging. Im glad that candyman wasn’t just about the past but about the problems that still effected black Americans at the times each movie released. I like that this movie is still remembered well and is still talked about
