I've been thinking about Mycroft’s decisions surrounding Eurus. In "The Final Problem," Mycroft states that Eurus has been in Sherrinford since early childhood. Let's say, for arguments sake, that Eurus was around 7 at this time, that would make Mycroft only 15 — too young to have been the driving force in any way behind the decision to have everyone believe she was dead. Indeed, he tells us that the idea was Uncle Rudi's initially ("what Uncle Rudi began, I saw fit to continue.")

This has got me thinking about at which point Mycroft became party to the secret. Did he know from the start? Did he work it out, or did Rudi tell him? Did he initially believe her dead too? What was his initial reaction to finding out?

I've written fics on this, but I have SO many questions! I'd love to get stuck in a lift with Mark Gatiss. 😂

Chapter 1: Cloud of Fire

After the events at Sherrinford, Mycroft experiences intense scrutiny at work. As his position becomes increasingly precarious, he tries to investigate the source of the threat, but is thwarted at every turn. With his career and his mental health in shambles, can Mycroft open himself to a personal life he's been neglecting for decades?

I'm thrilled to finally be posting this, the longest thing I've ever written. It's been in the works for 2 years now and I'm delighted to put it out into the world. Thanks to @cumberbatchedandgatissmitten for the beta and cheerleading and to @keirgreeneyes for the stunning artwork.

I joined the @mystrade-reading-club when this was a short plot synopsis along the lines of "What if Mycroft got fired for what happened at Sherrinford?" and I couldn't be more grateful for the community of clever, kind, wonderful, generous people there. You are also funny AF and the reason my most used emoji is 😂.

Headcanon time. I think Mycroft counts on that there is a possibility that he will end up in Sherrinford should his mind ever deteriorate in some way. His brain is too dangerous to unleash upon the world if he loses control of it.

I think he also fears that the drugs will ruin Sherlock's brain so he needs to be sent there. He knows that this would kill him, because he's like a wild animal that should not be caged.

Maybe Uncle Rudy had to go there before them. Maybe he is still there?

What if Sherlock is the one locked up in Sherrinford after he shot Magnussen?

What if this is what we're supposed to take from when Mycroft says "a week of isolation is locking up with your worst enemy"?

And S4 is his nightmare while in Sherrinford?
