daily orca 109: T007B “Spiller”

spiller is a 42 year old bigg’s orca. she was born to innis in 1983, and is her only surviving calf. spiller is the matriarch of the T007s, who are also called the secret agents. spiller had three siblings, one of whom being kanduke, who was captured before spiller’s birth and lived at marineland and seaworld. nootka III, who was captured alongside kanduke, may also be related to spiller. spiller has had seven calves, with four still alive today.
spiller had her first calf, T007B1, in 1995. spiller had another calf in 1998, though they died before their fifth birthday. spiller had a son named knox in 2005, and another named moonraker in 2010. blunden and T007B1 both passed by 2012. spiller had her fifth calf between 2012 and 2016, but they died by 2019. spiller gave birth to domino in 2018. she had her final calf, spectre, in 2022.
in 2021, spiller and her family went viral online after a video was recorded of her, knox, moonraker, and domino hunting a sea lion together. the sea lion jumped onto a boat, whereafter the T007s circled the boat for several minutes before the sea lion jumped back into the water. the video gained millions of views and provoked many negative reactions about orcas, such as people claiming that orcas were “bullies” and malicious creatures.
the T007s’ nickname, the secret agents, is a reference to james bond, as he is sometimes called double-o seven or 007.
