Dr. Chitra Dorai has long been a proponent of increasing the number of women in the technology field. She is an AI scientist and thought leader who began her career at IBM, where she was an IBM Fellow and Global CTO for Cognitive Services. Since leaving IBM, she has founded and serves as the CEO of Amicus Brain, which focuses on bringing the power of AI to tackle some of the important societal problems in healthcare and financial services. Her technology insight and passion for supporting other women in tech makes her a most welcome member of the SheTek Advisory Board.

The Grace Hopper Celebration, a gathering of women technologists sponsored by AnitaB.org brings together some of the top women in technology to exchange ideas.
SheTek is a start up that encourages women in all areas of their lives. Not only do we strive to help women professionally but we also try to connect and bring women together. We truly understand the importance of women joining forces and learning from one another. There is something so powerful, motivating and even empowering when women gather in a room. Ideas, journeys, life stories, are all exchanged and shared with one another creating a flow of electricity that can almost be touched. A gathering of women is a celebration. A celebration of strength, achievements and overall comradery. This is exactly what happened during The Grace Hopper Celebration, the largest gathering of women technologist. Sponsored by AnitaB.org and partner ACM, this conference brought together some of the top women in technology. Key note speakers included Padmasree Warrior, Jessica Matthews, within many others. Now, can you imagine the energy in this room?!?!
There are many programs to get women more involved in technology. It may seem that women are catching up to men in the IT field. In reality, this isn’t the case.
If you were asked, “Is the gender gap in technology getting better?” what would you say? If you said that women are getting more jobs now and advancing in this industry, your answer wouldn’t be wrong – but it wouldn’t be correct, either. With all of the recent programs that aim to get women more involved in technology, it may seem that women are catching up to men in the tech industry. In reality, this isn’t the case. A recent New York Times article by Cade Metz says that the gender gap won’t close for another century “if current trends hold.” These results are shocking. Computers have only been around for 70 years, and women were there programming and working on them at the start. But all that has changed. It will now take 100 years to close the current gender gap in computer science research. That’s unacceptable!
