Drake excused himself to contact Madeline, the reception from Liam’s room was terrible. Riley waited by Liam’s side texting Carsyn. She knew that they only had a short window of time before they missed their flight. Carsyn confirmed that she was on the way back to the hospital as Riley settled into the chair beside Liam’s bed.
“Thank you.” His voice was so quiet Riley wasn’t sure if she had actually heard him or if she imagined it.
“Liam? You’re awake.”
He coughed before Riley quickly grabbed the white styrofoam cup next to the bed to hold the straw to his dry lips. He nodded, thanking her before speaking.
“What happened? Where are we?”
Riley stood to look into his eyes. “Liam, you were in a wreck after you left the strip club. You lost a lot of blood. We’re at Baylor hospital.”
“And you--” Liam chokes on his words. “You are here with me. I’m so sorry, Riley.”
“Sorry Liam? You’re sorry? For what? Are you sorry that you have been a creep since the moment we met? Or are you sorry that you burst into Drake’s room while I was changing? Or that you forced a kiss on me and accused me of wanting it? Perhaps you’re sorry for taking my husband to a strip club and paying a whore to seduce him. How about what you should be sorry about, about how disappointed your best friend was because you missed his wedding after staying out all night with strippers? We are supposed to be at the airport starting our happily ever after!” she spat. “But noooo, Drake is a better friend to you than you could ever be to him. So here we are! So you are right, you are one of the sorriest motherfuckers I have ever laid eyes on. How much more is he supposed to endure for you, Liam?” a deafening silence fell over the room. Liam closed his eyes contemplating her words.
“Answer me, dammit!”
“Riley, I--”
“You what? Liam, you are a poor excuse for a man.”
“I know. You have made your point. I-- I am ashamed of my behavior. It’s clear that I have some self reflecting to do.”
“That’s the understatement of the year. Carsyn is on her way. We have a plane to catch.”
“She is? Where’s Drake?”
“Yes, she is…and when she gets here you had better have your shit together. You are going to lose her and Drake if you keep to your trifling ways. They are sick of your shit, Liam. I don’t know how much Carsyn has left in her but Drake is done cleaning up your mess. That man, he is mine and I will protect him until my last breath. You’re not going to keep treating my husband like shit. He’s too good to you for that…”
“What am I too good for?” Drake asked as he and Bastien entered the room.
“Nothing,” Liam said quietly.
“Liam, you’re awake.” Drake moved to his side. “How are you feeling?”
“I don’t feel so good.”
“I’m sore; but I will live, I guess.” he trailed off. “Look, Drake I owe you an apology. I missed the wedding, got you tangled in my mess and now you might miss your flight.”
“It’s ok.” Drake started.
“No, it’s not!” Riley interrupted.
Drake shot her a warning glare before he continued. She deadpanned.
“I couldn’t leave knowing you were laid up in the hospital unconscious. Then we got here to find that girl from the club lurking around. She wants hush money Li.”
“Heh, I’m not surprised. Let Madeline handle it.”
“I contacted Madeline so she could get ahead of all of this before it hits the media. Riley and I had a flight to catch and we missed it. She insisted on getting you squared away before we headed to the airport.”
“Drake, I feel awful. Take the royal jet. I’m sure I can’t fly in this condition anyway. It’s the least I can do.” Liam pleaded.
“Damn right,” Riley quipped. Drake glared at her and she shrugged her shoulders as Liam smiled.
After getting Liam all squared away, Drake and Riley set out on their first adventure as a married couple. The 24 hour flight from Dallas to Phuket, Koh Phi Phi aboard the private jet gave them plenty of time to talk about the future, take naps, read, and of course rack up frequent flyer miles as members of the “Mile high Club.”
He had planned their day, but after that flight they were both spent. They spent the day in bed, tangled in the white cotton sheets, before slumber came to claim them both. Riley fell asleep on her husband's chest in the center of paradise.
The sound of heavy rainfall plucked her from her sleep as a gentle breeze tickled her skin. She reached across the bed to find the place where Drake slept the previous night empty. It was really early. The sun hadn’t come up yet the door to the deck was open and the breeze seemed to draw her.
------
“Carsyn, you came.” Liam laid heavily medicated in the Dallas hospital bed. He laid eyes on the one person who he never expected to see. He was sure he had blown it with her. His remorseful eyes followed her as she moved to his side.
She looked at his bruise pale skin before she placed her hand over his. “Li, I have to be honest. After all that we have been through, everything within me tells me I shouldn’t be here. That I should run away from you and never look back.”
“Car--”
“Let me finish,” she interrupted. He nodded. “But when I look into your eyes and I remember the vows I took to be by your side for better or for worse, I just can’t help coming to your aide. I have no idea if I will live to regret this, because all it has been for our entire marriage is for worse. When does the “for better” part start Li? When?” Her shoulders visibly shook as she held back a sob.
“Now,” he said barely above a whisper. “You’re a remarkable woman Carsyn. I’m not sure how you have held on this long, but I’m glad you have. I honestly didn’t know the depths of how deeply I needed you until you left. Come home. Let me prove to you that I can be the man you fell in love with. Riley was right. I have been a bismal husband, poor king and a pitiful friend.”
She gazed at him thoughtfully. Quietly, she spoke. “I don’t trust you. You assaulted your best friend’s wife, got drunk and got in a wreck and missed their wedding. Drake is a better friend to you than you could even be to yourself. He and his new bride missed their flight to their honeymoon to be at your side.”
“Don’t you think I know that? All the people I hurt the worst were the only ones by my side when I woke up. I realize that now. This has all been quite the humbling experience. I promise you Car, I will spend the rest of my days trying to right this wrong. All I do is run people away. You left me, Drake left me. Hell, even my own mother… I am so damaged.”
The rain poured violently through the canopy of trees. Riley found a shirtless Drake in a trance staring out into the storm. His far away look alarmed her. She slowly approached him, wordlessly placing her hand on his shoulder. After a few moments he reached up to cover her hand with his own. His deep breathing turned into unabashed sobs when she took him in her arms. “Babe, what the hell?”
“I’m a horrible friend. I left him alone. If I just stayed..He needed me.”
She wiped his tears. They terrified her. Her big strong, confident, brooding, masculine husband was a blubbering mess of tears. She swallowed thickly, trying her best to hold it together. “No! No Drake. You don’t get to do this. You don’t get to blame yourself and take on his bullshit.” she chidded. If you would have stayed you would have missed our wedding too. You’d be laid up in the hospital or worse, dead! You were where you were supposed to be. You came home. He’s a grown man Drake! You’ve taken care of him long enough. Let his wife take care of him. I need you. I’m your wife. Take care of me.”
His tears slowed as he pulled his bride into his lap. “You’re right, il mio amore. I’m so sorry,” he whispered against her neck. His lips found the sensitive flesh as his large calloused hand ran up her thigh. Her breath caught in her throat, she shivered as he broke contact with her just long enough to slide his undershirt over her head. “You are perfect, you know that?” She blushed at his words as she straddled him running her fingers through his thick chocolate mane. He bit his lip as he ghosted his hand down her curves. Her full lips found his in a slow lust filled kiss. She moaned into his mouth as he rolled her nipple between his thumb and forefinger. Her swollen lips parted as she panted. Her stiff tongue flicked one of his nipples before she moved over to suck the other. Her warm mouth followed her hands down his defined abs, her tongue tracing each muscle. She slowly dragged her tongue down his Adonis belt before tugging his boxers down. She smiled when he lifted his bottom to help. His monstrous erection sprung free as her eager mouth found his tip releasing it with a pop.
Drake pulled Riley to her feet and pressed her up against a post, before running his hand up her body settling his large hand around her throat. Their eyes met in adoration as her chest rose and fell with anticipation. Her body was on fire. She had never felt so connected to another person. It was deeper than a physical connection. As he looked into her eyes she was sure that their souls were one. Drake fell to his knees and rested his wife's thigh on his shoulder. He took his time kissing her inner thighs before burying his face in her apex. She gasped at the sensation. “Drake, I--Iove you,” she stuttered. “I love you more.” His voice reverberated throughout her core. His words were enough to send her crashing into her first orgasm.
Drake lifted her petite frame with one hand as she trembled. He stroked his throbbing length with the other pushing inside of her without warning. “Drake!” Riley screamed as she stretched around him. With her legs wrapped around his waist he thrusted into her slowly and deeply. A single tear fell down her cheek as she gripped the hair at the nape of his neck. His greyish blues met her hazel greens as she bounced up and down. “What have you done to me, woman?” Watching her cry got him all choked up. After several more passionate, sensual minutes of love making Drake could feel himself getting close. “I can’t hold out much longer in this position. Where do you want this?”
“Inside me.” she whispered in his ear. “I can’t wait to have your gorgeous country ass babies.” Drake buried his face in her neck as he chuckled lowly.
In that moment he knew he was a goner. He knew that he would give his life for her. He knew that she had been the best decision he had ever made. She was his dream come true. She completed him. She held him down like no one else could and still let him be a man. He didn’t know where life was taking them. But he was sure that with her by his side it would be an adventure.

“What time is it?” she asked as he kissed her gently, plucking her from her slumber.
“6:20 am. Get up. I brought you your favorite, vanilla caramel macchiato. Let’s go for a walk and watch the sunrise. I need to talk to you and it can’t wait.”
“Mmm, it smells amazing. My head is pounding. You’re not waking me up early on my wedding day to call things off, are you Mr. Walker?”
“Not on your life. I can’t wait to make you Mrs. Walker. It’s just--- we need to talk about last night.”
“Drake, you didn’t sleep with someone else did you?”
“No woman. Just put on this shirt and come on before we miss the sunrise.”
The couple quietly tipped through the family room that was still littered with guests from the party just hours ago. Drake walked his bride out into their side yard on the east edge of their property. It was the perfect place to watch the sunrise. They walked the perimeter of the property hand in hand in silence.
Once the sun was up, they settled on the couch in front of their outdoor fireplace. He wrapped a chenille throw blanket around her shoulders as she sipped her coffee. He placed his warm hand on her bare knee and took a deep breath.
“So, how was last night?” he asked as he ran his hand through his hair nervously.
“It was fun. Awkward, but fun. How about you? Did you enjoy yourself?”
“It was typical. We went to a strip club and there was no short supply of naked women all over the place. So, of course the guys had a great time, and I was uncomfortable and feeling guilty for looking. Listen, I will cut to the chase. Something did happen last night.”
Riley’s body immediately tensed and she dropped her head.
“Hey, no il mio amore. Non è quello che pensi, it’s not what you think,” he tucked his fingers under her chin forcing her to look at him.
“Please enlighten me then Drake, because I’m about to vomit. You wake me up early on the day we are supposed to be married saying we need to talk and it can’t wait, and now you confess that something happened last night, what the hell am I supposed to think?”
“I came home last night and I couldn’t find you. I heard some moans and followed the sound to a guest room.”
“That fucking Lauren.”
“Yeah, but Raye, that wasn’t the problem. I haven’t been completely honest with you.”
“What is it? You’re scaring me.”
“Don’t be afraid il mio amore. I just want to clear the air. I have been having recurring nightmares.”
“What?” she questions.
“Ever since I found you in that hall with Isaac, in Aruba. I have been feeling insecure. Like you may be looking for something that I can’t give you. I have been having these dreams of you leaving me for a black guy.”
“Oh Drake,” she sympathized.
“No Raye, hear me out. When I got home, I couldn’t find you. I followed a steady tapping sound and some moans to the guest room. I opened that door and I thought that my fears, my worst nightmares were coming true. I thought it was you being plowed by the stripper, and I lost my shit. I saw red. Like my thoughts scared me. I was about to go for a drive and that’s when I found you. Ri, you have no idea how happy I was when I found you passed out in my Jeep.”
“Wait, so that’s what happened last night? How did you possibly think she was me?”
“Yes, I’m sorry. I just saw that fucking tattoo on her foot.”
“You mean the tattoo that Norah, Mack, Kourtney, Lauren, and I ALL have on our left feet?”
“Yeah, I mean how was I supposed to know? I don’t pay attention to your friends. But, I should have known you wouldn’t do that to me.”
“Uh yeah, I would never. There isn’t another man on this earth that could “take me” from you. I’m in this, Drake. I’m not going anywhere. And I forgive you for not telling me sooner and for not fully trusting me. Just like I need you to forgive me for not fully trusting you. When you told me something happened last night, I automatically thought you cheated on me. But, thank you for being honest with me.”
“Hell no, I had a very attractive, mostly naked woman in my lap and my dick didn’t even notice. You’ve ruined me for anyone else, Raye. You’re it for me.”
“Good. Now, I gotta pull myself together. I have plans today,” she smirked.
Drake grabbed Riley’s wrist pulling her into his lap, wrapping his arms tightly around her waist.
“Let me ask you a question because I am curious…”
“What?”
“How did you end up passed out in my Jeep?”
She laughed. I lost a battle with Patron and I was ready to go to bed but the party was still going strong. I missed you. I wanted to call you. It was too loud. I got in the Jeep so that I could hear you when you answered the phone. Then you didn’t. I sat there and waited for you to call back. When you didn’t, I cried and the next thing I knew I woke up in our bed and you are never to tell anyone of this.”
“Can’t promise that il mio amore, that story is gold.” They both laughed, before she stood, positioning herself in between his legs. She looked deeply into his blue eyes, which at that moment looked more grey before she grabbed his chin as she ghosted her lips over his, “meet me at the altar?”
A low groan escaped him, “Wait, where are you going?”
“To shower.”
“Want some company?”
“Babe, we agreed--”
“What?” he interrupted. “I just want to make sure my bride is cleaned thoroughly,” he feigned innocence.
The day went by quickly. Riley had her hair and makeup done and was dressed and waiting on Kourtney. She decided to nurse her new baby, Chase, before the ceremony. She could hear the string quartet start to play as the guest arrived. Bianca and her Aunt Lorraine made sure that everything was taken care of. She was given strict instructions not to worry, but just to show up looking pretty. She was sure she would be a ball of nerves. But as she sat waiting as Norah, her matron of honor pinned her veil to her head she was the picture of calm.
Therapy was helping. She was living in the moment. She would not get in the way of her own happiness. She was taking a dive with Drake and trusting him to catch her if she fell. She was lost in her own thoughts when she heard a knock at the door. “Ri, it’s time baby girl.” She recognized her father’s voice. She looked around the room and took a deep breath, trying not to get emotional. Her friends, Norah, Kourtney, Mackenzie, and Lauren looked resplendent in their emerald gowns. She was sure the grounds were gorgeous and that the food would be amazing. But none of that mattered to her. She just wanted to get married. She was ready to become Mrs. Walker.
The girls filed out of the door before Ryden laid eyes on his youngest child and only daughter. He proudly puffed out his chest and his eyes filled with tears at the sight of her. “My baby girl is getting married,” he said as he extended his arm.
When they reached the glass doors that led to the garden, they all lined up. Gabi, Kourtney’s daughter, and the flower girl, approached Riley grabbing her hand looking into her eyes. “Come on Auntie Riley, let’s go get you a husband.” Riley chuckled before kissing her sweetly on the cheek. “I’m ready Gabs.”
The quartet started to play.
Riley POV
Pops is usually so hard to read and he is currently a ball of emotions. Everyone looks so great. Bartie is going first he is quite adorable.
Gabi disappeared around the corner. She did great in rehearsal yesterday. She makes the perfect flower girl.
Tyler stepped up offering his arm to Lauren. Things are going well so far. I can’t wait to see Drake. We decided against the traditional tuxedo. He picked a nice navy suit. Next up Liam and Mack, where the fuck is Liam? Leave it up to him to ruin our fucking wedding. I really didn’t want him here. That’s Drake’s friend. Mack looks at me and I nod for her to go ahead alone. Wyatt appears offering Kourtney his arm, before shooting me a sympathetic glance. Pops must sense my frustration. He starts rubbing circles on the back of my left hand. Norah’s next. She has been my rock from day one. It was no doubt she would be my matron of honor. I’m blessed to have her standing at my side. Once they get to the altar, the music stops and Apostle Matt asks our guest to stand to receive me. I take a deep breath. I don’t love all this attention.
“Ready?” Pops whispered to me. I nod.
A soloist starts to sing a song Drake picked. He told me it was a surprise. The quartet accompanies his voice beautifully. The lyrics are heartfelt.
Girl, it's been a long, long time comin' yes it has
But I, I know that it's been worth the wait yeah
Yeah
It feels like springtime in winter
It feels like Christmas in June
It feels like heaven has opened up it's gates for me and you yeah
And every time I close my eyes
I thank the Lord that I've got you (that I've got you) yeah
And you've got me too (you've got me too)
And every time I think of it, I pinch myself 'cause
I don't believe it's true yeah
that someone like you loves me too yeah
Eyy, yeah yea baby yeah
Ooh ooh girl, I think that you're truly somethin', yes you are, yes
And you're, you're every bit of a dream come true yes you are, yes
with you baby, (with you baby) it never rains and it's no wonder
The sun always shines when I'm near you
It's just a blessing that I have found somebody like you
And every time I close my eyes
I thank the Lord that I've got you (that I've got you) yeah
And you've got me too (you've got me too)
And every time I think of it, I pinch myself 'cause
I don't believe it's true yeah (oh baby)
that someone like you loves me too yeah
To think of all the nights, I've cried myself to sleep, yeah
you really oughtta know how much you mean to me (it's only right)
It's only right (you in my life) that you be in my life right here with me
oh baby, baby yeah, yeah
I tell you girl every time I close my eyes
I thank the Lord that I've got you baby
And you've got me too baby (you've got me too)
And every time I think of it, I pinch myself 'cause
I don't believe it's true
that someone like you loves me too yeah hey yeaah hoo
Loves me too
Pop and I walk slowly down the aisle. I look up and Drake’s back is turned to me. I start to panic. I wonder if everything is ok. Shit, is he having second thoughts? He wouldn’t do that to me in front of all these people right. I look to Wyatt for a clue and he recognizes the terror in my eyes. He smiles and it calms my nerves. I have always taken my cue from him. I have a smile plastered on my face. I can’t help but wonder if I look like an idiot. Wyatt taps Drake on the shoulder and he finally turns around. His entire face is red. He’s crying? This is new. I’ve never seen him cry. Now I want to cry. He looks so good in this suit, and he cut his hair. He bites his lip and I wink at him. He smiles and licks his lips.
We finally get to the altar. That took forever. I can’t take my eyes off of Drake. It’s like everyone here disappeared. I don’t even want to know what happened to Liam. He’s such a poor excuse for a friend. Drake wipes his tears and smiles at me. There goes my panties.
When the song ends Apostle Matt asks, “Who gives this woman to be married to this man?” I wait. Pop’s is choked up. “I do,” he finally said. He places my hand in Drakes and takes his place next to Bianca. Apostle Matt invites everyone to sit. I still have my eyes glued to Drake. He looks like he is going to pass out. I mouth to him, “Are you ok?” He smirked. He comes so close to me to whisper in my ear. “Never better.” Fuck he smells amazing. Apostle Matt says some words about the importance of covenant and I clearly can’t focus. Drake squeezes my hand. Shit, it’s time for me to say my vows. I gave my phone to Norah just in case I freeze up or forget. She will feed me the next words. She passed her flowers to Kourt, and I hand her my bouquet before joining both hands with Drake, looking into his beautiful blueish grey orbs. Here goes nothing.
“Drake, when I saw you at the airport. I blushed. When you asked me to dance on that rooftop, I swooned. I was sure that I would never see you again. Then when I was invited to your sister’s wedding and I saw you standing at the altar, I felt...like you were stalking me.” The crowd laughed.
“I want so badly to be able to explain all the love I have for you. Not the love of butterflies and stomach knots—but more the blurring of self and the entanglement with another soul. Love is a word that is much too soft and used far too often to ever describe the fierce, infinite, and blazing passion that I have in my heart for you.
You are a million dreams and a million prayers of a little girl come true. You are kind. You are intelligent. You are fiercely protective. I love how serious you can be and that you save your smiles for me. It’s like being in on the best inside joke ever. You acknowledge my strengths and accept my faults.
You make me want to be a better person every day. I take you as you are now, tomorrow, and for eternity to come, to be my husband. Even when the day comes that we're old and gray, I promise to always see you with the same eyes and the same heart that I see you with at this exact moment.
So today, I vow to honor you and respect you, support you and encourage you. I promise to dream with you, celebrate with you, and walk beside you through whatever life brings. I vow to laugh with you and comfort you during times of joy and times of sorrow. I promise to always pursue you, to fight for you and to love you unconditionally and wholeheartedly for the rest of my life. You are my best friend and I'm the luckiest girl on Earth to be able to call you mine."
Apostle Matt then tells Drake it’s his turn. I am so giddy. I can’t wait to hear what he wrote. His voice is raspy and full of passion. It’s like we are alone. I try to hush my thoughts so that I can hear his heart.
“Raye, my world spins on your axis. My life didn’t start until that night on that rooftop. You’re so lucky, I’m a catch girl.” The crowd laughed. “But seriously, I have spent my life learning to protect those around me. When we connected I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life protecting you. I promise to always protect your heart. Raye, your smile is my favorite sight and your laugh is my favorite song. A love like ours doesn’t happen every day. Since the day I met you, I knew you would turn my world upside down. When Liam asked you to dance and you rolled your eyes, you had me. From that day forward I became a true believer that you do not find true love, but true love finds you.
You, more than anyone else, know my insecurities and weaknesses and still never make me feel inadequate. You love me without reservations. You praise me in a way I never thought was possible and because of you, I am the best version of myself.
I cannot promise I will always be the perfect husband, but I promise to love you through the good times and bad. To choose our love every single day. I promise to always fight for you, never against you. I promise to always be your biggest fan, confidant, and best friend. I promise to remember we are not perfect—only perfect for each other. I promise to love you without hesitation or boundaries for the rest of my life.
Thank you for being the woman of my dreams and for making my wildest fantasies come true. Thank you for being the roots my gypsy soul has always needed and I will forever be your wings. Everything in me recognizes your heart as my home and your arms, my shelter.
You are my better half and very best friend. I will love you, honor you, respect and cherish you in sickness and health, through sorrows and success, for all the days of my life. I am forever yours."
Oh, my God. That was beautiful. I am so in love with this man. Now, I’m crying. He pulls a handkerchief from his suit jacket and carefully blots my tears in an attempt to salvage my makeup. It’s time for rings now. My hands are shaking. I don't feel nervous. Maybe my brain didn’t get the memo. Apostle Matt asks me to repeat after him. Hopefully, I don’t fumble my words.
“I Riley Elizabeth Raye, give you Drake Arrington Walker this ring as a symbol of my love for you. Let it be a reminder that I am always by your side and that I will always be a faithful partner to you.
I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness. As I place it on your finger, I commit my heart and soul to you. I ask you to wear this ring as a reminder of the vows we have spoken today.”
Norah puts his wedding band in my hand. I hope he likes it, I slide it onto the ring finger of his left hand. Holy shit. I’m almost a married woman. He looks down at his hand and smiles. He likes it. That’s a relief.
He repeats the same ring stuff and then he slides a gorgeous wedding band around my finger. The stones are large and very sparkly. He did well.
This is it. Apostle Matt says a few more words before I hear him say, “By the powers vested in me by God, the Holy Spirit, and the great state of Texas, I now pronounce you man and wife. Brother, you may kiss your bride.”
The crowd started to cheer and he pulled me into his strong arms and kissed me until my knees were weak.
“It’s my honor to introduce for the very first time, Drake and Riley Walker!”

Pairings: Drake & Riley
In Aruba
The night was filled with passionate love making. Usually, he had no problem “helping her sleep.” That day was different. Riley laid awake staring at the large diamond that now adorned the fourth finger on her left hand. It sparkled brilliantly, and was the only proof that the last 12 hours hadn’t been some giant hallucination.
She was engaged to the man of her dreams. 8 months ago she had just relocated to Dallas and she hadn’t a single suitor. But Drake, she couldn’t help but to think that God placed him on that rooftop that night in New York. She was sure that he was her soulmate. They were definitely meant to be. Had she let her mouth write a check?
”Good morning, il mio amore.” She turned to face him with a sleepy smile. “Hey fiance,” she whispered. He smiled, he loved the way that sounded coming from her lips. “Have you slept at all?” his gaze turned serious. “Well, a little,” she confessed. He sat up in bed pulling her close to his side. She rested her head on his chest and listened to his heart beat while her fingers traced his abs. “What’s on your mind?” Boy was that a loaded question. She didn’t know where to start. “Us. Are we moving too fast? Like do you really want to marry me? This ring is gorgeous, but it’s huge, it had to cost a fortune. Can you even afford this?” He was quiet for a moment. He was thinking of how to respond. He shifted in the bed so that he could look her in the eye.
“Raye, I’ve known that I wanted to marry you for months. If we are moving too fast for you just say the word. You know that I am not one for extravagance. But for you, I will be completely over the top, if that’s what you want. I just want you. The ring could easily cover the cost of a big wedding, or a nice down payment on a home. But, I will do what I need to do to make you happy.”
She was speechless. She was absolutely sure that he was it for her. She didn’t need him to take care of her financially, but the thought of him being so selfless, being willing to step out of his comfort zone to make her happy was overwhelming to her. “Drake, I have never wanted a big wedding. I just want you.” She kissed him sweetly before his phone rang. Drake reached over to retrieve his phone and knocked his wallet on the floor. Riley went to pick it up for him, noticing that it had fallen open. Her heart fluttered at what she found. Then it flipped. Tucked behind her picture was a picture of a woman she was sure she saw at Savannah’s wedding. She didn’t want to accuse him, or come off as insecure so she put a pin in it, and simply smiled, “You keep a photo of me in your wallet?” He smiled sheepishly before answering the phone.
“Hey Mom!”
“Hey Driz, how are you?”
“I’m great, Mom. How are you?”
“Drake Arrington Walker!”
“What?” He asked with a huge smile on his face.
“Where’s Riley?”
“She’s here.”
“Did you, you know?”
“Yes,” he beamed.
“And..”
Riley chimed in, “I said yes!” she squealed.
“Hi, Mrs. Walker.”
“Hi honey, congratulations, I’m so happy for you two, and call me Mom!”
“Thank you.”
“Mom,” Drake interrupted. “We will call you back. We were in the middle of a discussion.”
“Ok Driz, don’t let me keep you.”
“Love you Mom, We will call you back.”
Drake ended the call and turned to Riley. She was still holding his wallet in her hand. “When did I even take this picture?”
“I kind of took it when you weren’t paying attention. So, are we getting married today?”
“Don’t think I don’t know that you are changing the subject, but I mean, I guess we could.”
“You guess?”
“I mean, you haven’t met my Dad and my brother would kill me if I got married without him here. And what about your Mom and Sav--”
“Point taken,” he interrupted.
“We have a few days before the mover’s bring your things home, let’s go to Chicago. I want to show you where I grew up and introduce you to my Pops. We should also introduce our families.”
“I’m game.”
In Chicago
After leaving Aruba, they landed at Chicago’s Midway airport. It was closer to her dad’s home in Countryside, a suburb on the edge of the city. While they waited for Wyatt to pick them up from the airport, Drake took a phone call that apparently was private. He walked away from her and used hushed tones. She tried not to think too much about it. She knew the ridiculous places her mind could take her and the picture she found in his wallet didn’t help. She’d address it later, she thought before her brother pulled up to the curb outside of baggage claim.
She started to roll both of the luggage closer to the truck, when a blonde woman rushed over to snatch Drake’s bag out of Riley’s hand. “Sir!!! Oh my God, sir, this girl was leaving with your bag.” Drake pinched the bridge of his nose, “For fucks sake lady, she’s my fiance. What the hell is wrong with you? And I can assure you she is nobody’s girl, she is all woman. Did you think that she was a thief because she’s black? Like, what? She couldn’t possibly be with the painfully white guy? Get the fuck outta here and check your bias at the door.” Riley tugged on Drake's arm. He was making a scene, and there was clearly something more bothering him. They loaded into Wyatt’s truck and headed directly to meet her dad.
Drake sat in the back seat of the GMC Yukon attempting to settle his temper and his nerves. He texted someone furiously. He attempted to put a pin in whatever was going on to focus on being in the moment with Riley. He was going to meet his future father in law. He needed his whole head in the game. He knew that he was the only white man she has ever dated and the first man of any race to meet her Pops.
“How often does that happen?” Wyatt asked. “What?” Riley asked. “You know, that?” He pointed his head toward the curb. “Not very, but we get a lot of looks. It doesn’t bother me as much as it bothers Drake.” Drake looked at Riley with frustration. “Because it’s wrong. I don’t understand why you aren’t more upset.” Riley rolled her eyes. “It’s because I’m used to it. Clearly, not for this reason, but it’s just the way things are. I have to choose my battles. Drake, choosing you means dealing with ignorant people. I’m ready.”
Wyatt cleared his throat, trying to lighten the mood. “So uh, how was Aruba Ri?” Wyatt asked. “It was interesting,” she said as she slipped her engagement ring off of her hand, passing it discreetly to Drake. “Work is demanding and then Drake showed up to surprise me.” He nodded his head as he closed the sunroof. “Drake, my man, you really are trying to rack up brownie points huh? I guess showing up in Aruba worked. She hasn’t ever introduced Pop to anyone. Are you two getting serious on me?” Drake laughed nervously before pulling on the collar of his black shirt. “Something like that.” his usually husky voice squeaked. “Fiance’ definitely sounds serious.” Riley looked like she saw a ghost. “Wh--What?” she questioned her brother. “Oh, I heard Prince Harry back there barking at Karen. “Don’t do that,” she warned. “He said you are his FI-AN-CE. I also saw that big ass rock on your hand. Congrats! But don’t worry. I’ll let y’all tell Pops.” Riley dropped her head in relief. The color drained from Drake’s face. “Don’t be nervous bruh, his temper is a lot better since he retired from the force.” Wyatt chuckled as he pulled into a long driveway.
“Riley, you never told me he had a temper,” Drake whispered. “Don’t let Wyatt get in your head. My temper is worse,” she chidded. “Somehow, that doesn’t make me feel better.”
When they got out of the car Riley stopped in front of Drake and adjusted his collar. She stretched on her tip toes and kissed his lips sweetly. “Do I look ok? How’s my breath?” he asked. Wyatt laughed loudly at the question, “Why? I hope you don’t plan on kissing Pops?” Drake laughed appreciating his future brother-in laws attempt to help him relax. Before they could approach, the 12 foot oak entry door swung open and a tall gentleman with white wavy hair and caramel skin emerged. His eyes were those of Drake’s beloved, Riley. “Is that my little girl?” Riley ran to leap into his arms. Drake noticed the tears in her eyes and nearly melted. Her father wrapped her in his arms and noticed the way Drake looked at Riley, there was a concern and compassion that read all too easily. Their hug lasted for quite a while. Riley finally broke the embrace and with tears still streaking her face turned to beckon a waiting Drake.
“Pops, I know Wyatt told you that I was seeing someone. I also know that I usually don’t introduce you to anyone. But this is Drake Walker, he will be around for a while, so I need you to behave.” Her father extended his hand, “Rylen Raye, nice to meet you, young man.” Drake felt his nerves in this throat. He swallowed thickly before he responded. “Likewise, Sir.” They all followed Wyatt into a grand foyer, where he excused himself. Riley and Drake followed her father into the spacious kitchen, and settled at the breakfast bar.
“So, Drake, where are you from?” He smiled nervously, “I was born in a small European country called Cordonia, near Italy. But my family is from Waxahachie, Texas.” Rylen looked between he, and Riley thoughtfully. “I see, and where did you meet my daughter?” Drake shifted uncomfortably on the stool. “We met in New York, Pops.” Rylen shot his daughter a warning glare. “And I was talking to Drake. He can speak for himself, can’t he? Or are you wearing the pants here?” He turned to Drake, and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Son, if you are going to stick around, you will have to stand your ground. This sweet-faced girl will try to run you.” Riley huffed at her father. “Wyatt, why don’t you take your sister out to see my new blooms in the garden, so that Drake and I can talk, man to man.”
Riley glanced at her father with pleading eyes. When his expression remained unchanged she rolled her eyes and followed Wyatt out of the french doors into her father’s garden. “Now Drake, let's cut the small talk. You flew here for her to introduce you to me. I know that things have gotten serious. She has a good head on her shoulders and Wyatt said you checked out, said you would be good for her and I trust his judgement. I heard you were the head of the King’s guard where you come from so I know you can protect my baby. But she is bullheaded like her mother and she won’t willingly let you take care of her. If you can’t spoil her, leave her right here with me. Now, you quit your job in Europe. How do you plan to take care of her financially?”
“Wow, well first let me start by saying that I love and respect your daughter a great deal. There is nothing that I wouldn’t do for her. I have already told Riley that if we are going to be together that she is going to have to let me take the lead on some things. That doesn’t mean that I want to control her. We can make decisions together but, I live off of little and save most of my money. I have accepted a position with DHS, I’ve also made some wise investments over the years, and I could retire today, but I want to give her the world.”
“She doesn’t need the world son, she needs stability, to feel loved, safe, like she is your priority. You have to listen to her. Let her cry, and don’t try to fix things for her. You will run her off. And if you ever put your hands on her, I will kill you. Do you understand?”
“Yes, Sir.”
“Do you have kids, Drake? Any bad habits, smoking, drugs, drinking gambling, a temper, you ever hit a woman?”
“No, sir. I mean I enjoy expensive whiskey and Cuban cigars every now and then but that’s about it. Only a coward would hit a woman.”
“I see,” Rylen stroked his beard thoughtfully. “Very good. So, what’s your plan?”
“I’ve uh, I’ve already asked her to marry me.” Drake checked his watch for the time and looked out the door for any sign of help.
“Marriage huh? Are your parents still married?”
“No, actually my Father is no longer with us.”
“I’m sorry to hear that. Were they married? Happily?”
“Yes, until his dying day.”
“So you have an example of what marriage is supposed to look like?
“Yes, sir.”
“Italian women are gorgeous. Why do you want to marry Riley?”
“Well, with all due respect sir, the first time I left her, I knew I wouldn't be right until we were back together again. She’s the only one who does it for me. She’s not just a pretty face. She is the entire package...and when she smiles at me, it’s like the earth stops spinning.”
Rylen laughed, “My God, what did she do to you, son?”
“I don’t know. She is a breath of fresh air. I had been holding my breath for years. I didn’t know I needed anyone, until I met her.”
“Ok, you are in love, but that’s not enough. What will keep you together? We don’t do divorce in this family.”
“We will stay together because everyday is new with her. We are friends, sir. She’s my best friend. We talk about everything. Like nothing is off limits. I’m sure that there is nothing we can’t overcome together. When times get hard we will lean on each other. We will just have to communicate, put each other first and be honest with one another.”
“What about after she has kids and gains weight, if another woman catches your eye, or you get tired of her mouth?”
“Sir, Riley is beautiful inside and out. I’m attracted to her confidence. If she is comfortable in her skin, I’m sure I will love it too. If she’s not, we will change our diets and workout together. Besides, I would never change how I feel because she gains weight carrying my babies. She trusts me with her heart, I will always protect it. And as far as her mouth goes,” Drake looked out at Riley and Wyatt in the garden with a goofy smirk, “I like that about her too. She isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind. Not like the women back home. They would just agree just to keep the peace. I love a woman with an opinion.”
“Ok, I get it. Her mother was the same way. She wants kids, do you want kids?”
“Yes sir. As many as she wants.”
“Will your family accept my daughter, and my black grandbabies?”
“So far, they love her.”
“What happens when they don’t; or a neighbor, or a co-worker makes a comment?”
“I have given that a lot of thought. I think it will depend on the situation. But, I assure you that in every situation, I will not tolerate her being disrespected or treated like anything less than the goddess she is. I will always put people in their place. Even when it is uncomfortable. Even if it costs me relationships. I will stop at nothing to protect her, sir. I will always choose her first. Even over blood. I mean, we get looks all the time from black and white folks. But what matters to me is the way she looks at me.”
“I can respect that. But I had to ask. Choosing to marry a black woman in this country is choosing a more difficult path for you, her, and your children. But it seems that you are fully aware.” The two men shake hands and there was a comfortable momentary silence before Rylen cleared his throat.
“Well then, congratulations are in order. Welcome to the family, son. Do you have a nice suit with you? We should celebrate at her favorite restaurant, McCormick and Schmick’s. Dinner’s on me.”
Later at dinner
Dressed in their Sunday best. The group settled around a small table in the corner of her favorite restaurant. Riley finally felt comfortable proudly wearing her engagement ring after Drake came clean to her Father about their new engagement. After their orders were placed, Riley sparked a new conversation. She cleared her throat. “So Pops, Drake and I were thinking, we should introduce you and Wyatt to his Mom and Sister, before the wedding. It will be nice for everyone to be previously acquainted.
“Oh, I see and have we set a date?” Rylen asked thoughtfully.
“No, she wasn’t comfortable doing that until you and I met,” Drake chimed in.
“Well, no worries. I’d love to meet your family and when you two are ready, I will cover the cost of the ceremony and party.”
“How very generous of you, but that won’t be necessary, Mr. Raye. I can cover it.”
“Nonsense. It’s tradition.”
“Pops, I am not going to be a traditional bride.”
“No kidding, Drake didn’t even ask for your hand.”
“No one does that anymore,” she quipped.
“No, il mio amore. He’s right. I should have. I’m sorry, Mr. Raye. I got ahead of myself.”
Riley looked at Drake incredulously.
“Pops, you are retired, I won’t allow you to go into debt behind my decision to get married. I will pay for the wedding. Besides, I want to get married before the end of the summer. It’s such short notice.”
“Why? You aren’t pregnant, are you?”
“No, I was thinking of the weather. I just don’t want a wedding that would put anyone into debt when I don’t own a home yet. It’s just not fiscally responsible. We can get married in your garden or on the Ranch.”
“I love that idea,” Drake chimed in.
After dinner Wyatt pulled into the driveway of Rylen’s home. Rylen quickly noticed that he was the only one exiting the vehicle. He looked inside at Riley and Drake who both stayed put. “Come on, let me help you with your bags,” he pleaded. “Can we share the same bed?” Riley quipped. “You’re not married yet,” he insisted. “We’ll be at the Embassy Suites.” Rylen frowned. “Why would you stay at a hotel? I have plenty of space here.” She pinched the bridge of her nose. “Because Pops, we are adults.” Rylen posted his hands on his hips. “And, what’s that supposed to mean Ri?” Between a combination of wine at dinner, exhaustion from the flight, and the day itself her filter was gone. “Pops, I’m sure you don’t want to hear the noises that Drake elicits from me at night.” He had heard enough. Drake wasn’t sure if she was just being a brat to her Dad or it was the 4th glass of wine but he wanted to save face before more damage was done. He cupped his large hand across her mouth. “Riley! Please, stop talking. Mr. Raye, what Riley miserably failed at saying, is that we don’t want to impose. We already booked our suite. But thank you for the offer. We are doing some sightseeing tomorrow, and then we will come by to visit in the evening, if that’s ok?”
The next Day
Sun pried her eyes open as she reached for Drake only to find a cold bed. Her sensitive eyes searched the suite before landing on his muscular frame, his sleep pants sitting dangerously low on his hips.
“Focus Ri,” she whispered as she stealthy rolled out of bed and crept over to the slightly ajar balcony door. Chills ascended her spine as she listened in on his conversation. “Li, I don’t give a fuck what she says, I want a DNA test.” Riley’s eyes went wide as she choked back a sob. She slid down the wall, suddenly unable to hold herself up. She hit the floor with a thud. Drake, startled by the noise, ended his call to check on Riley. He gathered her in her arms pulling her into his lap. She stood moving away from him.
“Don’t touch me,” she spat.
“Raye, baby, it’s not what you think, il mio amore.”
“Then exactly, what is it Drake?”
“The kid can’t be mine.”
“Then why do you want a DNA test? I’m not stupid!” she screamed.
“Ri--”
“I’m not even hurt about the baby. The baby is innocent. This is about trust. Why didn’t you tell me? And if there is a chance you could be the father, that means that you slept with her. Were you fucking her and then coming home to call me?”
“What? No! You are right, I should have told you, but I didn’t know what to say. And I want a DNA test to prove to everyone else that I am not the father. I know there is no way that kid could be mine. I’m sorry. Just trust me. I will make it up to you.”
She took a moment to catch her breath and think about the situation rationally. She hadn’t caught him in a lie before. If she were being honest he was more trustworthy than she had been so far. She exhaled, “I trust you, Drake. If you say that there is no way this could be your baby, fine. But, I want to see the test before we get married and no more secrets.”
Back in Dallas
They were taking a drive out to the ranch in Drake’s jeep to have dinner with Bianca. “I see Liam has slithered his way back into your life,” she said, rolling her eyes. Drake seemed nervous and slightly fidgety like on their first date. She ignored it as long as she could. “Oh, il mio amore, he needs me right now. And if it weren’t for him, Penelope would have tried to pin her baby on me. I had to set some boundaries with him, but he seems to be in a better place since he and Carsyn are working on their shit. Besides, he’s still my best friend.” Drake started to fidget again as they sat at a red light.
“Ok, enough about Liam, babe, are you ok?”
“Yeah. Uh Raye, I know that you said that you didn’t want a big wedding but, are you sure? You know money isn’t an issue. I have thought about this for months. We could just go looking at venues or I could hire a wedding planner.”
“Drake, I’m nothing if not practical. We could spend 30 thousand dollars on a wedding or we could hire a caterer and invite our family and friends to an intimate ceremony and dinner in my Daddy’s garden, spend a grand and go house shopping. At the end of the day, I just want to be Mrs. Riley Raye-Walker.”
“Wait, you want to hyphenate your name? Don’t answer that. We’ll talk about that later. I just want you to have exactly what you want, so I uh, have a surprise for you.”
“What is it?”
“It’s uh, potential venue?”
“Drake Arrington Walker!”
“Ugh, Raye, just trust me.”
Drake reached across her, into the glove box and tossed her a blindfold. She smiled down at the blindfold in her lap and then over to her fiance. “Babe, if you wanted to do something kinky--” Drake interrupted. “Raye, just put on the damn blindfold and no peeking.” He took a right turn down a picturesque tree lined road. She cut her eyes at him before complying. After a couple minutes of them riding, Riley started to feel silly riding in a blindfold. She had a curious smile on her face when the car slowed before Drake made the next turn onto what felt like a gravel drive. After a short while the truck stopped and Drake turned off the engine. “Stay put,” he instructed. Riley’s stomach began to turn in excitement. Drake moved around the truck to open the door for her. He took her hand with his right and wrapped his left arm around her waist guiding her a few feet. He moved behind her and whispered in her ear. “Raye, thank you for being my dream come true. Are you ready for your surprise?’ She nodded as he placed a hot pink hard hat onto her head before he removed the blindfold. Riley gasped as she looked around.
“You brought me to a construction site?” He chuckled as he wrapped his arms around her waist. “It’s our land, il mio amore, our home. You told me two months ago that you didn’t want an expensive wedding, because you didn’t even own a home yet. So I got started building our home. It’s on 5 acres and I bet it could be ready by summer. So I’ll ask again, are you sure you don’t want a large wedding?”
A/N: This came from months of waiting on OH2 to resume. I was very pleased with the chapters that were released and hope that MC and Ethan don’t have to sneak around of hide their true feelings much longer.

After a long shift at Edenbrook, Rhyan came home to a strange silence. Could everyone be out? She thought to herself. She checked everyone's rooms and sure enough, no one was home. She pulled her phone out and shot a quick text to her roommate via the ongoing group text they started when they first moved in together.
12:17 am
Where is everyone?
12:19 am
Out at Zoom, come meet us and let off some steam.
12:20 am
I'm beat, I think I'm just going to head to bed.
She lied. Club Zoom was a new, very modern, and exclusive place that played a variety of dance music but more importantly, it stayed open until 4 am. This meant her roommates would likely be out until the sun came up.
Rhyan needed to let off steam as much as her peers but she had other plans on how to get the mission accomplished. Her next text was to the one person she craved more than anyone or anything. She couldn't seem to get enough of him. She was tired of being teased, the innuendo, the stolen glances. She had a need that only he could fulfill.
12:21 am
Hey...
12:21 am
Hey, is everything ok?
12:21 am
Do you still have the spare key to my place?
12:22 am
Yes, why?
12:23 am
I need you to come back.
12:24 am
But I just dropped you off.
12:24 am
Please, no one is here and I fell...in the shower. I need help getting up.
12:25 am
I see...
12:26 am
Hurry.
12:29
I'm downstairs. Be up in a moment.
She quickly undressed and lit candles in her room. She told Siri to play her slow jams playlist and headed into the bathroom that connected to her bedroom.
She turned on the shower and dimmed the lights. Her fingers ran through her hair as she gazed into the mirror and sat on the countertop. Her legs fell apart as she licked her fingers and slid them down her thigh. Biting her bottom lip she rubbed her breast with one hand, while the other hand explored her center. She heard him call from the front door.
"Rookie? It's me."
Her breath hitched in her throat at the sound of his voice, her hands moved faster, her heart beating out of her chest.
"I'm in here," she said as she choked back a moan.
When he reached the cracked bathroom door his eyes went wide at the sight of her naked body on display. His dick instantly stiffened because he knew that this show was all for him.
A seductive smile crept across her face. "Thanks for coming to help me."
Her hand picked up the pace and she slipped a couple of fingers inside of her. He stared incredulously, drinking her in.
"Are you going to just stand there, or are you going to help?" she said in between staggered breaths.
It had been a while since he had seen her perfectly perky breast, her soft skin, or full hips. He swallowed hard as he slowly padded towards her.
"You told me you fell," he said to buy time.
He knew that he wanted her as much as she wanted him, likely more. But, it was probably a bad idea.
"You're stalling."
She knew that he couldn't resist her. She moaned louder and louder and looked him directly in his stormy blue eyes. She knew the exact moment that he broke. He pulled his sweater over his head and reached for his belt buckle quickly undressing. With his clothes discarded in a heap on the cold tile floor, he stroked his dick as he crossed the room slowly.
His mouth found hers immediately, his hands roamed her entire body fulfilling the longing she had been bottling for his touch. He touched her in a way she had never been touched. It almost felt like an out of body experience. He kissed his way down her body squeezing her thighs, pushing them apart to taste her secret garden. He slipped his fingers inside of her and he smiled.
"Someone happy to see me? You're ringing wet, Rookie."
She tangled her hand in his hair, guides him to her center, and says, "say less." He devours her. Slurping on her juices and sucking her clit, while plunging his long fingers in and out of her warm tight honey pot.
"Ethan, I need you."
She runs her hands over his taut pecs and abs that ripple down to his...
"OH MY GOD! Ethan, I fucking missed you," she moaned as he made his entrance.
It had been months since they last communed. He went slow at first to make sure she was comfortable receiving his girth.
"Ow ow ow." she cried out.
"Am I hurting you? Should I stop?"
"Don't you fucking dare, just go slow," she insisted.
His large hands palmed her round ass as he eased her down onto him. He thrust into her slowly as she tightened the grip of her arm around his muscular neck and she moaned as he picked up the pace.
"You feel so amazing." he panted.
Soon all she could hear is his panting over the sounds of her ass slapping into his thighs. When he felt himself getting close he pulled out and walked her over to the shower. The water was warm and coming down hard as he kissed her shoulder and neck from behind. She rested a knee on the wooden bench in the shower, his hand gripped her waist as his other guided his dick inside of her. He plowed into her over and over again as she begged for more.
"Harder, faster, deeper," she demanded in between breaths.
"Give it to me Dr. Ramsey."
Something in him always got more excited when she addressed him that way. He picked up the pace and soon felt her muscles contracting around him.
"That's it, Rookie, come for me." She felt an intense bolt of electricity run through her body down to her toes. After she fell over the edge, he releases on her ass. He was not sure what it did for her but she liked it.
They soaped up and actually showered, when they were done there was an awkward silence.
"What now?" he whispers in a silky baritone voice.
She kissed him sweetly and said, "I got what I needed. Go home. I'll see you in the morning."
He smiled, as he got dressed.
"You know you can't keep this up. Right? You're no good at sex without feelings," he warned.
"Let's be honest. What just happened was all about your feelings," she quipped.
"I'll let myself out," he said smiling.
"I'll miss you." she teased.
"I'll see you in exactly 5 hours," he reminds her.
"Ethan?" she called out to him.
"Hmm?"
"You're the best part of my day," she says quietly.
"Ditto."
"I didn't hear you."
"I said I love you too, Rookie," he said as he slipped out of the door.
There was something very comforting about their relationship. They had formed a bond that is undeniable. The greatness of it lies in the unspoken. He knows that he has her heart. She knows that if she calls he will drop everything and come running. It's not ideal, but it works... for now.
As always. I hope that you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing.

After a long week at Edenbrook, Dr. Hill found herself slumped against a cold locker as she reminded herself that tomorrow was Friday. She just had one more day to get through before the weekend. Sienna bounced into the locker room as energetic and bubbly as ever.
“Heeeeey Rhyan!”
“What’s up Si? You’re not acting suspiciously at all.”
“I came to get debriefed. Jackie and I are covering for you. Dr. Ramsey arranged this last week. What do you two have planned?”
“Not sure, help me up so that I can go find him.”
Sienna, grabbed both her hands, smirking as Rhyan rose from the floor and reapplied her makeup before she headed out of the locker room in pursuit of her beloved. She found him down the hall outside of his office in a heated debate with Baz. His face softened when he noticed her walking towards him. She lifted her eyebrow, before ducking into his office, not wanting to interrupt.
Moments later he joins her, pausing to kiss her on the forehead before settling behind his desk.
“So, Si said she and Jackie are covering for me tomorrow.”
“Affirmative.”
“Do you care to elaborate?”
“Not exactly. It’s Valentine’s weekend. Pack an overnight bag, you’ll be busy.”
“You’re insane.”
“You don’t know the meaning of the word insane. But I will show you.”
Confused, but excited Rhyan caught a second wind. When they arrived at their apartment she spotted his carry-on sitting at the door. She quickly moved to the spare bedroom to retrieve her carry-on from the closet carrying it into their master bedroom to pack.
“Should I pack for a cold or warm climate?” She yelled down the hall.
“It’s February in Boston. Dress warmly.”
He was being so vague. She wasn’t sure if it was frustrating or exciting.
Her stomach rumbled as she took in the smell of onions and garlic wafting down the hall. She laid out 2 casual outfits, a nice dress for dinner, and a couple of pieces of lingerie, one red and one white, he had never seen. The white one she bought shortly after they got engaged, for their wedding night. They had talked about setting a date but never really committed. She figured she might as well bring it and get some use out of it.
She had just placed her toiletries and her favorite pair of heels in a shoe bag before placing them inside her bag and had started to zip it up when she felt the heat from his body envelope her. He sweetly kissed her on the neck as he whispered in her ear.
“You’ve been back here 40 minutes. Don’t think too much. Just pack.”
She giggled.
“Come on, dinner is ready.”
He led her down the hall to the small dining table where dinner was waiting.
After they ate, they loaded the dishwasher together before settling on the couch to watch, “Guess who’s coming to dinner.”
Later, after a shower together, they cuddled until they both fell into an exhausted slumber.
The sunrise over Boston gently plucked Rhyan from her sleep. She smelled a mixture of coffee and his cologne when he appeared in the doorway with a mug for her.
“Rise and shine, Rookie. I let you sleep in. The car will be here in 30 minutes.”
She started to question him or protest but just decided to trust him instead. She got dressed in her favorite sweater, black pants, and a pair of thigh-high boots that she was sure made him sweat. She touched up her hair and makeup quickly as he came into their bedroom to get her luggage. He stopped in his tracks, staring, and swallowed thickly as he took her in.
“You don’t play fair. I see now how this weekend is going to go.”
She winked her eye at him and turned back to the mirror as she blotted her glossy lips. His phone buzzed with a notification that the car had arrived. He helped her put on her coat and she grabbed her purse before they headed out the door.
After a short ride to the airport, they boarded a small private jet. A flight attendant came and poured them both a glass of champagne before disappearing again.
He raised his glass and proposed a toast, “to a weekend that neither of us will soon forget.”
“Cheers,” she said as she clinked glasses with him.
She watched him intently for a few moments noticing his awkward demeanor and how quiet he had been all morning.
“So you still aren’t going to tell me where we are going?”
“Not a chance.”
She giggled, shaking her head at the way he pursed his lips. It only felt like they were in the air a few minutes before they landed.
“Welcome to Martha’s Vineyard. The current time is 8:43 am and it’s a clear crisp 30 degrees on this beautiful Friday morning. At this time we ask that you fasten your seat-belts tightly and power down your electronic devices. On behalf of Captain Hunter, myself, and the flight crew we thank you for flying with us and it is our wish that you do thoroughly enjoy your weekend.”
Rhyan’s eyes went wide when she heard where they were. She leaned over and peppered kisses on his cheek.
“Oh Ethan, thank you, thank you, thank you. This was on my bucket list!”
“He smirked, I know.”
“So, what do you have planned.”
“Well, quite a bit. There is a private chef preparing us breakfast as we speak. We have pedicures this morning, a sightseeing tour, couples massages, and a wine tasting all before dinner.”
“Dr. Ramsey, is it your intention to spoil me?”
“Stop it.”
“I think you liiiiiiike me, you want to kiiiiiiss me--” she sang.
“Rookie, knock it off.”
“Ok, geez. Grumpy old man.”
This made him smile. It was a smile that only she could procure. That was precisely the reason he loved her.
After breakfast they got settled and head off for a long day of travel and activities. Later, though she would never admit it, she was tipsy. She drank more wine than she tasted, so they settled on the floor to have dinner and make love in front of the fireplace before heading to bed to do it again and again.
When they woke up the next morning she smiled as she watched him snore. She wasn’t sure how life would turn out, but as long as she had him beside her she was sure it would be an adventure worth taking.
He stirred as she ran her hand up and down his washboard stomach. Without opening his eyes he smiled.
“Good morning handsome,” she whispered.
“Hey, you. How are you?”
“Real good. I want to thank you for yesterday. It was one of the best days of my life.”
“Is that right?”
“Yes, and I have you to thank for it.”
“And just how do you plan to thank me?”
“I don’t know, but I have a little black dress in my bag for dinner tonight and when you take it off tonight, I’m gonna thank the hell out of you.”
She threw her leg over him straddling him, letting her untamed curls cover his face as she gently kissed his lips. His large strong hands tugged at her hips as she smiled against his lips feeling his morning erection.
“Looks like someone is ready for morning fun,” she said stroking him through his lounge pants.
“Is wasn’t enough that you kept me up most of the night?”
“Nope, I wanna do it again and again and again,” she whispered seductively.
“Whoa Rookie, I want to, you know I do, but it’s gonna have to wait.”
“Come on Dr. Ramsey, you’re ready.”
She pulled her panties to the side and lowered herself on to him. It was going to throw their schedule for the day off but who was he to refuse her?
After they had mind blowing morning sex and showered he directed her to go downstairs and wait for him.
“What’s the plan for today?” she yelled as she descended the steps.
She made it to the kitchen counter, and her smirk turned into a smile as she saw the roses waiting for her next to a plate with bacon yogurt and fresh fruit. When she stepped closer she noticed a note on the counter. It read,
To whom I have always loved, I offer you my hand,
To whom my soul desires, I offer you my heart.
To whom I willingly give, I offer you my all.
Rookie my love,
I can’t wait another day to make you my wife.
Today is the day. Let’s get married.
Her eyes went wide and teary when she turned to find him standing there.
“Are you serious? Today? Is this why you’ve been acting oddly?”
“Yes love, very serious. Yes today and aren’t I always odd?”
She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him deeply. When she pulled away she drowned in his baby blues.
“I would love to become Mrs. Ramsey today. But what about a dress, accessories, my hair--”
He kissed her to silence her. When he pulled away he told her,”I have taken care of everything. There is hair and make up waiting in the guest room, along with a dress and everything you need. After you get dressed the car will be waiting to bring you to the chapel.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Oh, and to answer your question, the plan for today is to top yesterday as one of the best days of your life.”
“Well Dr. Ramsey, you are off to an amazing start.”
After a quick breakfast, she headed to the guest room where the most breathtaking white dress hung on the french doors. A young lady stood in the corner with a shy smile on her face ready to make her beautiful for this, the biggest day of her life. The day she had now waited on for years. He was right. He thought of everything...Except how she’d feel about getting married without her Daddy walking her down the aisle, how she’d feel about her sister, and Sienna not being there and in that moment she realized that none of that married. She was marrying the man of her dreams in the matter of a couple of hours.
After hair and makeup were done, Paige, the stylist, helped her get ready. She slipped the garter belt up her bare thigh before greasing her ankles and feet with vaseline. She prayed that he got the size right of the exquisite pair of Jimmy Choo heels he left for her. Then she thought of how without a fitting the dress fit like a glove and she smiled. He had done his best detective work. But how? She hadn’t suspected a thing. Not even this weekend trip. She easily slipped her feet into her shoes and looked herself over in the floor length mirror in the corner.
“I’m really doing this. When I come back I will be Mrs. Ethan Jonah Ramsey. Dr. Rhyan Ramsey.”
The thought excited her. She did a little happy dance in the mirror before heading out the front door where the town car was waiting to whisk her away to the chapel. Just for a moment she thought of how he’d been behaving. Was he nervous to marry her? Was he just preoccupied with everything falling into place? He wouldn’t have done all of this if he weren’t going to show right? Her mind filled with questions to which she really didn’t care to know the answers. It was a short drive to the small wedding chapel perched on the hill. It was beautiful. If today went well it would be quite the incredible story to share with their grandchildren. If it went badly, at least no one was here to witness it, she thought to herself.
When the car stopped in front of the entrance her Daddy reached to open the door. He had his handkerchief ready because he knew how big of a crybaby his youngest daughter could be.
“Daddy!” she squealed.
She tried to hold back the tears as she embraced him.
“Did he come? I mean is he in there, Daddy?” she whispered.
“Ethan is no fool. He knows that you are a prize baby. He’s in there and he is eagerly waiting. Are you ready? Are you absolutely sure you want to do this?”
“I’m ready. I have never been more sure about anything or anyone.”
“Well then, I think it’s best we get you down the aisle.”
He offers his arm as the driver opens the door for them.
She stops at the back of the chapel overwhelmed to see the small crowd of their loved ones. Hot tears started to spill down her cheeks as she wondered if the waterproof make up was actually working. Her parents, his parents and Naveen all stood to welcome her.
“I guess we don’t have to worry about witnesses now.” she chuckled.
By the time she made it to the front of the chapel, Ethan was beaming from ear to ear.
“Rookie, you are a vision.” he whispered.
She squeezed his hand before the priest began to speak.
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered together here in the sight of God, and in the face of this company of witnesses to join together this man and this woman in Holy Matrimony; which is an honorable estate, instituted of God, signifying unto us the mystical union that is between Christ and His Church; and therefore, not entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, discreetly, soberly and in the fear of God. Into this Holy Estate these two persons present come now to become one.
If any man can show just cause, why they may not lawfully be joined together, let him speak now or forever hold his peace.
Who gives this woman to be married to this man?”
“I do,” her daddy said in a silky baritone voice before letting go of her hand and standing beside her mom.
“Ethan Jonah Ramsey, will you have this woman to be your lawful wedded wife, to live together after God’s ordinance in the Holy Estate of Matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others keep you only unto her as long as you both shall live?”
“I do.”
“Rhyan Sydney Hill, will you have this man to be your lawful wedded husband, to live together after God's ordinance in the Holy Estate of Matrimony? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others keep you only unto him as long as you both shall live?”
“Are you kidding? Absolutely. I mean, I do.”
“The marriage ring seals the vows of marriage and represents a promise for eternal and everlasting love.
Ethan, repeat after me. I Ethan take thee, Rhyan, to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish forever, according to God’s Holy Ordinance, and thereto I give thee my pledge.
Rhyan, repeat after me. I Rhyan take thee, Ethan to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish forever, according to God’s Holy Ordinance, and thereto I give thee my pledge.
Those whom God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.
Forasmuch as Ethan and Rhyan have consented together in Holy Wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and this company of witnesses, and there to have given their pledge, each to the other, and have declared the same by giving and receiving a ring, and by joining hands; by the power vested in me by the State of Massachusetts, I now pronounce you husband and wife.
You may now kiss your bride.”
Ethan grabbed his bride and kissed her deeply, passionately, desperately before opening his eyes to his new father in law, scowling. He smiles against her lips.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I now present to you for the first time, Dr. & Dr. Ethan Ramsey!”
As always. I hope that you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing.

They returned from Martha’s Vineyard just in time for the new hospital opening. They were lost in a sea of hospital staff. The energy was electric. Everyone was shocked by all the upgrades and just so eager to get their day started. Sienna was more eager to chat with her friend who had texted about big news. They planned to meet after the diagnostic team's morning meeting.
In the morning meeting
As Rhyann sat sipping her cappuccino from the new doctor’s lounge, Ethan and Dr. Emery walked in together laughing about God knows what. Rhyann shot Ethan a look and he immediately returned to his normally stoic demeanor. Baz sat at the end of the table staring pensively into space. Ethan cleared his throat before standing.
“Before we get started, it is my sincere pleasure to officially welcome Harper to the team.”
“Oh stop, Ethan we both know you have no flair for drama,” Harper blushed.
“Welcome, Dr. Emery!” Rhyann said, glaring at her new husband.
“Rhyann, no need to be so formal. We’re colleagues, call me Harper.”
“Very well then, welcome Harper.”

Rhyann crossed her leg dangling her favorite black Steve Madden pump off of her pedicured toes. She was lost in thought. She had never noticed how well Harper and Ethan got along. They were going to be working very closely together. She wondered if they were always this in sync? She was not used to this feeling. She wasn’t sure she was jealous but she knew she didn’t like it.
“Harper, you always did know how to keep me focused.”
His words returned her to reality. She knew that if she stayed, and they kept this up, she would not be able to keep things professional. She would surely embarrass herself as well as Ethan. She decided to excuse herself.
“If that’s all, I’m going to go check on our patient,” Rhyann stood to leave.
Ethan cleared his throat, “Uhh, Dr. Ramsey? Do you mind running the bloodwork?”
She stopped in her tracks. She would have to get used to the way that sounded. When she looked over her shoulder, he winked at her. There was a glint in his eyes as he beamed proudly at his new bride. Harper’s mouth was agape.
“Sure thing,” she smirked as she headed out into the hall with Baz in tow. After she got a lab tech to draw the test needed for their patient, she ducked into the new doctor’s lounge to meet with Sienna.
“There you are! I thought you forgot about me.”
“Never.”
“Ok, so sit. Spill it!”
“Well, hmm..”
“Rhy!!! Come on, your pregnant aren’t you?”
“Pregnant? Dear God no!”
“Well then what is it? Spill!”
“Okaaaay, but call me Dr. Ramsey.”
“What?”
Rhyann looked around the empty lounge before she confirmed. She bit her bottom lip and innocently nodded to her friend.
“We did it. We eloped.”
“OMG! No way! Congratulations!!!”
An excited Sienna pulled her friend into her arms.
“Who all knows?”
“Well, Naveen was there.”
Sienna sadly dropped her head.
“Don’t look like that. It was a surprise. Only our parents were there. You know Ethan considers Naveen like a father.”
“I suppose.”
“It was nothing fancy, but it was beautiful.”
“Harper knows now. Ethan called me Dr. Ramsey and her mouth fell open.”
“Oh, how is that? Working with his ex?”
“Awkward, they were really vibing off of one another this morning and it made me feel invisible.”
“Speaking of awkward…”
She motioned to the door where Rafael stood. She couldn’t lie, he was still extremely attractive to her. In those scrubs, he was almost irresistible. Almost.
When he spotted her his eyes danced. He smiled and shyly waved at Rhyann.
Don't forget there could be
An old lover in her memory
If you need her so much more
Why don't you say?
“What are you two gossiping about?”
They both laughed awkwardly.
“Oh, trust me, nothing you’d want to hear about.”
“Raf? What’s with the scrubs?”
“It’s my first official day as a physical therapist.”
“Oh? Well, that’s exciting! Congrats.”
She really was excited for him. But she was also uneasy about working so closely with him. He had no idea how serious things had gotten with Ethan. He was going to be crushed when he learned that they were husband and wife.
“Thank you. I thought it would be a good fit for me.”
“Well, that’s great. I need to check in on my patient. Si, I’ll call you later. Raf, it was good to see you. Congrats again!”
She walked into the diagnostic room and looked up the results of the labs she ordered. She was still waiting on a couple more tests to come back. She opened up a new tab and did a Google search for “The Annulment Process in Massachusetts” when the door opened. It was Ethan and Harper still giggling together. She quickly clicked on the results tab.
He was surprised to see her sitting alone in the room. She quickly made an excuse to leave.
“Ethan, the results are pulled up on the laptop. If you will excuse me.”

She ducked into the restroom inside the diagnostics office and turned on the water to muffle the sounds of her sobs. Did she make a huge mistake? Did Ethan still have feelings for Harper? Could she be married to Dr. Ethan Jonah Ramsey and be this insecure?
Ethan’s POV
Harper would be a great replacement for June. She is a brilliant physician, but how will it make Rhyann feel? For the first time, he felt like he had lost control over the situation. It’s not like he had the opportunity to pick her. He is just doing the best he can with the hand he was given.
Bein' cool won't help you keep her love warm
You'll just blow your only chance
Take the time to open up your heart
That's the secret of romance
Then there was Rhyann, his colleague and his new bride. She is usually amazing at keeping professional and work feelings separate. But this morning she seemed to be struggling. She abruptly excused herself at least three times and had given him a death glare twice during their morning meeting. It is clear that Harper being here makes her uncomfortable.
In the diagnostics office
Baz knocked on the door to the restroom asking her to join them at the table. Rhyann quickly washed her face, cursing herself quietly when she realized that she left her purse under Ethan’s desk. They were surely going to notice her red puffy eyes. She fumbled finding her dark shades tangled in her soft wild coifs. She knew it would draw some strange looks, but it was better than explaining why she was in the bathroom crying for the second time before lunch.
She joined the team at the table, she sat at the opposite end from Ethan, Harper was at his side. Baz cleared his throat and announced that he would be leaving the team. He seemed teary-eyed and immediately got up and headed out of the room. Rhyann followed him calling out to him from the door. He had been such a great part of the team and the timing of his departure didn’t sit well with her.
“Baz! Wait.”
He stopped in his tracks and turned to her. His eyes were filled with sadness and something she didn’t recognize.
“Hey, what’s up Rhy?”
“Let’s take a break. Let me grab my purse and I’ll meet you at the coffee shop. It’s on me.”
“I’d like that.
“Perfect. Meet you there in 10.”
Rhyann went back to the diagnostics room to retrieve her purse and froze when she walked in to find Harper’s hand on Ethan’s knee. He immediately stood. She saw red. She wanted to react but she knew for the sake of her job, grabbing her purse and leaving was best.
She met Baz at the coffee shop a short time later. She sent Ethan a text, letting him know that she would not be returning for the rest of the day. The coffee date revealed that Baz was being “recruited” against his will by June. She wanted to promise him that she would help him figure a way out, but she had no idea how she’d get out of her own dilemma.
She returned home and the moment she stepped inside the threshold she let her bags and coat drop to the hardwood floor. She walked over to the small golden cart that housed their stock of libations. She poured two fingers of the oldest scotch he owned and drained the tumbler in two gulps. She settled into the corner of the couch where she sat for almost an hour staring into space. She stood with hot tears flowing down her face and padded into the guestroom to get a small piece of luggage. She needed time to think. She knew that she was not going to be able to objectively figure out her next move if everything around her screamed Ethan. She had fought so long and so hard to be with him.
She placed the bag on the side of their bed and began to throw random pieces of clothing inside. She didn’t even hear him come in. She walked into the master bath to get a few toiletries and when she came back into the room, there he was. Her husband was sitting quietly in the chair in the corner of their bedroom.

“Rookie?”
She looked at him like she saw a ghost.
“Ethan, you scared me. What are you doing here? Your shift isn’t over for another 4 hours.”
“I came home to check on my wife. I’m glad I did. What the hell are you doing?”
“What does it look like Ethan? I’m leaving.”
“Allow me to rephrase. Why are you leaving?”
“Do you still have feelings for her?”
“No, but I am pretty sure she still has feelings for me. She took things too far, and ... I didn’t stop her.”
“How would you feel if you walked into a room where I was alone with Raf and his hand was on my knee?”
“I--point taken.”
“Ethan, I’m not a jealous woman, and I am not normally insecure. But today was supposed to be a great day. I got to keep my job and I am newly married to the love of my life. Then I sat and watched my husband carry on with his ex in a way that made me feel invisible. I will never be satisfied with just a piece of your heart. I can not compete with her. So, if this is what being married to you will feel like, you can have it! I need you to be very honest with me. Is she going to be an issue or not?”
He stood pulling her close to him. She tensed up on contact and couldn’t meet his blue eyes. He placed two fingers under her chin forcing her to look at him.
“Let’s get one thing straight; Harper Emery has nothing on you. She can’t compete with you. I know that I am not the most romantic person in the world, but when you smile, I get butterflies. When you look into my eyes the whole world disappears. You have my entire heart Rhy. You took it captive the day we met. I don’t have feelings for Harper. I will have a talk with her tomorrow about boundaries. My apologies. In my attempt to make her feel welcomed, I didn’t consider how it made you feel until it was too late. If me working with her makes you uncomfortable, I will resign. I never meant to make you feel invisible, and I certainly had no intentions of running you off. I saw your annulment search.”
“I wasn’t going to go through with it. I just needed to know my options.”
“Leaving me is an option for you?”
It brought up his childhood trauma behind his mother walking out on him and his father. He waited quietly for her response trying not to get pulled into his toxic thought cycle.
“Well no, I would never just leave you. But if Harper continues to be an issue, I won’t just stay and be miserable. The idea is to be happily married. Not just married to say I’m married.”
“Noted,” he choked out.
“I never wanted to hurt you.”
“I did this for you.”
“You did?”
“Absolutely, I had much better offers, but it would have required us to relocate. I only stayed on at Edenbrook so that you could finish your residency. Now come on, I’m making you my very best, “I screwed up” meal. I’m sure that it won’t be the last peace offering, but I need you to know that I am fully committed to you and to our vows.”
They enjoyed dinner and drinks with soft music before Ethan stood asking her to dance. She accepted and he pulled her into his strong arms. His scent was intoxicating. He held on to her like his life depended on it, because to tell the truth, it did. Medicine used to be his entire life and now, she was his world. The way he held her made her feel like she was the only woman in the world. At least the only one who mattered.

The next morning they gathered in the diagnostics office for the morning meeting. She braced herself for what was sure to be an extremely awkward day until the door opened and in walked Mr. Bloom with Baz’s replacement. They locked eyes and he immediately smirked seductively at Rhyann. Ethan’s face instantly turned red as he began to uncomfortably fidget in his chair. Talk about leveling the playing field. Mr. Bloom cleared his throat before speaking.

Being married to the boss definitely has its perks, but not tonight. Tonight it means working late into the night until the job gets done. They had both been so busy working that they never even bothered looking out the window. The sun had set hours ago and the forecast only called for 2 inches of snow. Neither of them was concerned about their Valentine’s Day plans. Until the power went out.
Her brown eyes went wide as she expectantly looked to her husband. He was the picture of control. Cool, calm, and collected, Sam sighed, rolling his eyes at the inconvenience of it all. He reached for his cellphone. Surely, his maintenance team would be on top of things as soon as possible.
She immediately called the manny, Robert. Once she confirmed that all four children were safe, she could breathe a sigh of relief.
“How are the kids?” his baritone warmed her from the inside. She loved how protective he is over his family.
“They’re just fine. Robert said when the lights went out the generator kicked on right away. The girls are down for the night and the boys just got out of the bath and are brushing their teeth. Maintenance?”
“They will get here as soon as they can, but I told them to stay put until the roads are safe.“
She smiled.
“What do you suggest we do in the meantime? If the power is out it will start to get cold in here soon.”
“I’m not sure how long we will be stuck here. But I still have your blanket in my closet from when you used to take naps in my office when you were carrying the girls.”
“Oh, I know.”
“What?” he lifted his eyebrow.
“Oh, didn’t anyone ever tell you, Mr. CEO? Sometimes your wife will disappear and no one can seem to find her.”
“Love, I have never caught you napping in here.”
“Umm, it’s usually when you are in a meeting or away. Wouldn’t want the boss to catch me. I could lose my job.”
“I see, and do you like this job Mrs. Dalton?”
“Indeed, I love it. The benefits alone are amazing. The boss is kind of easy on the eye. He likes to look at my ass when I walk by.”
Sam blushed. He loved when she referred to him as “the boss.”
“Missy, I’m sorry baby,” he looked up from his phone.
“It looks like we might be here all night. I know we planned to go out once we wrapped up here. But, I promise that I will more than make it up to you. But for tonight, can we try to make the best of this pickle we have gotten into.”
“It’s ok beloved, I promise, and besides, I like pickles,” she said, licking her lips.
Sam's eyes flamed with a burning fire at his wife whose teasing words could always start a situation in his pants.
“She knows what the hell she’s doing,” he thought to himself as a sexy smirk creeped across his face.
“Check the fridge in the breakroom for leftovers from the Valentine’s Day brunch. I will grab a few things from my office and meet you in the waiting area by the fireplace. Good thing I brought your gift with me.”
“Yes, Mr. Dalton. Right away.”
He watched with a satisfied grin on his face as his wife switched away. She grabbed her orange Birkin bag, seductively swaying her hips as she headed towards the breakroom knowing he was watching. She had also tucked his gifts in her bag before they left home. She slipped into the restroom near the break room and changed into the red lingerie in her bag. She took a moment to admire her new body before pulling her black pants on and buttoning her red tie neck blouse and fastening the gold belt around her tiny waist. She was proud of her progress since the twins were born. She was concerned that maybe Sam would no longer be physically attracted to her with the extra weight.
She gained 40 pounds during her pregnancy and once the girls were born, he couldn’t keep his hands off of her. She tried to wait the whole 6 weeks; but it seemed cruel. She had been horny the entire time and though they found other ways to be intimate she knew Sam longed for more.
He never mentioned it and it didn’t seem to affect him in the least bit, but she felt uncomfortable in her own skin. Once she was cleared by her doctor she began a strict low carb diet and worked with a personal trainer in the mornings before work. She was still up 10 pounds, but Sam insisted that her curves were a turn on.
She ducked out of the restroom and into the break room, warming up the leftovers before grabbing plates and silverware meeting Sam in the waiting area. She gasped as she took in the set up.
“Mr. Dalton? How did you--”
“Haven’t you learned yet, that I will move mountains to make you smile.”
She sat the container of food down on the table and began making his plate. When she started to make hers, he stopped her. Putting his hand on her wrist he pulled her into his lap. She could feel his arousal immediately. She giggled.
“What are you doing?”
“You are always taking care of me. Tonight, let me take care of you.”
He kept one arm around her waist and with the other hand he took the fork winding the fettuccine around it, before lifting it to her lips.
“Babe, I shouldn’t.”
“Don’t worry about carbs. You get energy from carbs, and baby, you are going to need all the energy you can get for what I am about to do to you.”
“Is that right?”
“Absolutely. Besides, you look incredible. Eat it, it’s good. When we are done, I’ll work you out.”
After he fed her, he kissed her neck as she squirmed in his lap.
“Aren’t you going to eat?”
“Damn right, I am.”
Heat pooled in her center at his words. She was sure that she would be the main course.
“Sam, wait. I want my gift.”
He smiled, standing to retrieve a small gift bag from behind the couch.
“Please, sit.”
She crossed her legs looking at her husband with hooded eyes. He passed her the bag and bit his lip waiting for her to open it.
She found a box inside the bag with a pink bow tied around it. She smiled looking up at him wondering what could be inside the heavy box. She gazed into his eyes as she pulled the satin ribbon. He came closer falling to one knee as she lifted the top off the box.
“Sam! It’s the wallet to match my bag! This was on backorder. How did you get this?”
She lifted it out of the box as he grinned proudly.
“Oh my God, it’s gorgeous.” she said as she opened it to find a check for 10 grand inside.
“Thank you babe, but why so much?”
“It’s because you do things like, stay here with me so that this company is excelling, and you happily picked the bag that cost less, you haggled the salesman when I bought your Land Rover and you wouldn’t let me buy it brand new. You still look for things on sale, even though we can afford regular prices.”
“Babe, a car's value depreciates the moment you drive off the lot. We have 4 children to put through college. The future is never guaranteed. If we want to have money to leave our children and our grandchildren we have to stop spending money like we don’t work hard for it.”
He beamed at his wife, she was passionate about their finances and it hadn’t gone unnoticed.
“This is sweet but I will be investing this for our children. Open your gift.”
She passed him a box and his expression went from smiles to stunned as he lifted the top. A hat? He ripped through the tissues and pulled out a captain’s hat.
He smiled awkwardly as he tried it on.
“You got me a hat, thanks love! This is fly.”
Misti laughed uncontrollably, he really thought she just got him a hat and he was being a great sport about it.
“Samuel Dalton! The hat is only a clue.”
Realization washed over his face and he turned to face his wife.
“No way!”
She smiled nodding her head.
“Yes, way. I was going to take you down to the marina to see it but with the weather forecast I figured it could wait.”
“Misti? You bought me a freakin boat?”
“Yeah I did.”
“But I thought we agreed not to touch your settlement money.”
“And we haven’t. It’s all still there. I just made some wise investment decisions with your brother’s help.”
Sam placed his whiskey on the table and turned to her picking her up. Her legs wrapped around his waist as he kissed her deeply before gently putting her down in front of the fireplace, slowly unbuttoned his shirt. She smiled as she scrambled to take her own clothes off, never breaking eye contact. He let his shirt and jacket fall to the floor before slowly pulling his undershirt over his head, revealing his washboard abs. Her tongue swiped her lips before she bit them watching as his trousers and boxers fell to the floor freeing his length. She growled as he turned to retrieve the captain’s hat. His mouth fell agape when he turned to find his beloved in nothing but the red lingerie.
“Fuck Misti.”
“Yes please,” she said as he joined her on the floor. He kissed her lips sweetly before his mouth moved down her pulse line, then her sternum, before he teased her hardened nipples through the lace. He moved down lingering on her stomach which made her writhe .
“Sam!” she warned.
“Hmm?” he teased as he kissed her inner thighs with an open mouth.
His hands roamed her body setting her nerves on fire. He pushed her knees apart, and pulled the lace thong to the side as his skillful tongue found the spot that she craved for him to taste.
“Right there Daddy, just like that,” she moaned.
When she was so close he stopped kissing her, before lavishing attention on both of her breasts.
“Are you going to be a good girl?”
“Umhmm.”
“Do you wanna cum?”
“Yes Daddy.”
“Well stop holding back. Do it again, and I will edge the fuck out of you.”
She smirked. She knew that him edging her was punishing him as much as it was her.
He slipped his long fingers inside of her seeking her special spot and his warm mouth found her clit. That was all it took for her, she couldn’t hold back if she wanted to now. Her thighs clinched, trapping his face at her center as she trembled. He licked her teasingly lapping all her sweet juices. When her body calmed he stood pulling her to her feet. She reached behind her to unhook her bra and he stopped her.
“Leave it on,” he ordered.
He led her over to the couch where he sat motioning for her to climb on top. Instead she fell to her knees, licking her palms before grabbing hold of his length with two hands as her tongue teased his tip. She pumped her hands up and down while her mouth bobbed deeper and deeper. She could feel him pulsing in her hands. She took him as deeply as she could several times in a row before she released him with a pop, pulling back with a cynical smirk.
She leaned over him making sure her cleavage was in his face. Their lips were so close he was sure she was about to kiss him.
“Don’t ever do that shit again. Do you hear me? Now, do you want to cum?”
“Yes.”
“Yes, what?”
“Yes ma’am Mrs. Dalton. I want to cum,” he said with a bashful smile.
“Permission to come aboard.”
“Permission granted.”
“Thank you captain,” she said as she straddled him.
She grabbed his length and guided him inside of her before bouncing up and down until they both fell over the edge together. They made love several times that night; and eventually passed out in front of the fireplace under the fur blanket she kept in his office.
The next morning they both were jarred awake by the ding of the elevator.
“Morning Mr. Dalton, Mrs. Dalton. The lights are back on.”
“Good morning. Thank you Henry. If there is nothing else, you can have the rest of the week off paid if you never speak of this again.”
“Yes sir. No problem Sir. Happy Valentine’s Day to you both.”
