They started this tradition by killing Imam Ali (As) himself in Kufa mosque and since then this tradition has continued. May Allah bless Muhammad and his noble progeny and may the Martyrs rest in peace.

وَلاَ تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ قُتِلُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ أَمْوَاتاً بَلْ أَحْيَاء عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ (169) -آل عمران
