❝ the people responsible for red room. the ones who made us the way we are... would you ever forgive one of them? ❞
the words technically, grammatically, form an understandable phrase in english. but they feel like nonsense as they come out of her mouth. worse than nonsense, even. illogical. unhinged, perhaps. and as soon as the words are out she almost wants to take them back.

@agentjjkelly left a message: She hadn't heard from Natasha in a long while. In fact she'd lost touch with so many while home with the babies.
[text] What're you up to? It's JJ
A sigh left pursed lips as she eyed the various menus spread across her coffee table, she had half a mind to just go out and find something rather than order in.
"Hm," Natasha blinked and looked at her phone buzzing, "maybe that's Clint saving me from my poor decision making skills..."
It was not, but all the same, Natasha was pleased by the message.
[text:] About to play eeny, meany, miny, moe with take-out menus.
[text:] how goes the Mom Life?
Catching Up
@agentjjkelly
The first place she goes is to a friend's. Not Sterling's. But JJ. Sterling, Natasha knew would scold her for just up and going off like she had, and while she'd have to face that music at some point she wasn't ready for it yet. JJ hopefully would offer a warmer alternative, though it was safe to go with the idea she wouldn't be pleased either. JJ was in Natasha's opinion the Mom friend.
But going off and doing her own thing? That was typical Natasha behavior, she had done it before the world had changed, and even during it until the world fell apart, and she had done her part to put it back together again.
She made her way to JJ's place and rapped on the door politely and waited. She contemplated maybe sticking around here for a day or two, lay low until she felt more up to facing everyone else. It just depended on JJ's reaction, not that Natasha would blame the other redhead for giving a understandably negative one.
An Offer You Can’t Refuse
@sadiebrin
The new SHIELD is becoming that well oiled machine it always should have been, no corruption, no snakes hiding in the grass. Still, they need a Director, something she felt and still believed Sterling should do, but she also understood his reservations with his family situation now. Just being an agent alone was dangerous enough after all.
They needed more bodies none the less, so finding once members who left for whatever reasons seemed ideal, after very extensive background checks of course. Hydra, or anyone wasn't going to hide within their ranks again.
Natasha eyed the address on her phone then looked up confirming she was at the right place, and made her way up to the door and rang the bell. While she waited, she tucked her phone into back pocket and kept her hands were they were visible, going with the mind of what she'd need to see when opening the door for anyone.
The Truth Always Comes Out
@empatheticagent
It was almost easy now, since she first came back, which still felt like it was a week or barely a month ago rather than years ago. If she wanted to, Natasha could pretend none of it had happened, but she wasn't the type. However, she couldn't, no matter how hard she worked at suppressing her situation, the truth that she was hiding, it didn't make it go away. Despite her expert self control, all the rigirous and torturous training of her past, she still had days when she felt that empitness, that ache of her soul not being there, and today?
Was one of those days.
Much like an animal, Natasha hid her pain well, acting for all the world normal. The void throbbed inside of her, and she felt it down to her bones, a coldness that made her feel numb from her finger tips, to her toes and even her hair.
Taking a breath, that suttered as it left her lips. Everyone has breaking points, even those who were taught not to have one. Even without her soul, Natasha was very much human, and she was feeling it today, and her struggle to contain it, to hide it, was becoming almost beyond difficult.
At least she was alone, and she could duck out of sight into the first alley she came across, leaning back against one of the buildings, eyes closed, trying to catch her breath, one hand against her chest, fingers curled like claws.

@shieldshawk left a message: "You don't owe me anything, Nat." Clint murmured in her ear, blue eyes sharp and wary, watching the guards as they waltz their way around the room. "You never did."
To anyone watching the pair, they seemed close and very intimate, which wasn't necessarily wrong. Truthfully, they had never really put a label on their relationship. It was what it was and what they needed it to be at whatever moment. It was as simple as that.
Easily, Natasha followed Clint in the dance, he was better at it than one might think, and he was one of her favorite partners, of course. She could relax into the movements, in his familiar presence, unless of course he said something unexpected such as now.
Her initial response is to look at him, meet those blue eyes of his that can see for miles it seemed, her own sharp gaze narrowing.
"Been spying on me again, huh?" He can say that all he wants, but it will never change the fact she feels she owes him everything, and she will continue to repay him for as long and as many times as she sees necessary.

@khakerskayavdova left a message: [ ONE ] for sender to take a bullet for receiver.
The sound echoed over and over in Natasha's head. The younger widow could be quicker, or at least in this moment as Natasha felt herself flying forward, working to not fall, to turn and catch herself, everything moving slowly.
Bang. Bang. BANG!
Red. It's all the elder widow sees. Blood and anger, the latter boiling and becoming white hot.
No. NO!
They had to get out of there, fuck the mission. But before that, Natasha is absolutely lethal. Guns just seem to appear in her hand, shots fire with point blank precision. Kill shots. But not the instant kind, oh no. She wants them to suffer for this. She wants them to feel absolute utter agony as they beg to die and do so slowly.
"Ты идиот! Почему ты последовал за мной! (You idiot! Why did you follow me!)" The words were spat in emotion filled Russian as she hauled the younger woman up carefully.
"Не смей умирать. Это не позволено, младшей сестре. Понять? (Don't you dare die. It is not allowed, little sister. Understand?)" Truthfully Natasha doesn't know if it was a fatal shot or not, or if it will become if she doesn't hurry. She's hoping she's being overly dramatic and it's nothing, something a few days' worth of rest and healing and dissolvable stitches will take care of.
Somewhere safe. A hospital was out of the question. She needed space and supplies to work.
"Hang on, I'll get you fixed up." SHIELD has old bunkers everywhere and luckily Natasha knows most of their locations, so she heads to one now, moving swiftly until she comes to the hidden door with the equally hidden access panel and breathes when her old code still works.
In seconds she's got Faina placed as comfortably as possible and grabbing every bit of first aid material she can find.
"Where were you hit?" Those dull green eyes are sharp and focused, and she's steady, she has to be, she has to be calm for her sister. After she was okay, after Natasha took care of the wound, then maybe she'd allow herself to feel beyond the numbness of the autopilot kicked into gear for situations like these.
