@paramounticebound left a message: “These past months have been a torment.”
(I'm gonna combine these because they all work super well together especially for the marvel plot we talked about, hope that's okay :3 and it can be counted for a starter too for that.)
It felt like she was at the end of a very odd game of cat and mouse. She had watched a man, with dark hair following Clint around as much as she was, and who he was? She had no clue, and yet something about him itched at the back of her mind, but she couldn't figure it out, and she couldn't bring herself to confront him, not yet anyways, not until she figured out why he was following her friend around, so she began to follow him more than she was Clint, keeping a distance until the opportune moment came.
It came one spring evening, as she caught him getting too close to her friend, closer than she wanted him to be and dangerously so.
"I'm flattered, well, actually no I'm not… why would I want you or anyone to kill my friend, someone I care about?" She stood in this mystery man's way, he would have to get through her to get Clint and that wasn't going to happen, Natasha didn't care what it took.
He talks like he knows me. Like he missed me? Who the hell are you?
Still, the more she looked at the man, the more she felt like she was supposed to know who he was. Maybe, she realized, she ought to just take the obvious route and ask.
She studied him with her eyes, still sharp as ever, but dull where light should reside, he seemed to be seeking revenge or punishment towards Clint, and Natasha could only think of one reason for that, what happened on Vormir, and that wasn't anything Clint should be blamed for if anyone should be, well it was herself.
"Whatever it will take to get you to leave him alone, I'll do it. But… he's suffered enough, I've seen it…" and she wished that Clint wasn't, she had heard him talk to her, speaking to the memorial plaque that bore witness to things that had happened, and it made her ache, made her want to reveal to him she wasn't dead, not anymore, but she couldn't bring herself to do it, worried that it wouldn't last and she didn't want anyone to experience such pain due to her again, letting them mourn her once was enough, "please."
