the "love story" thing. Since I'm not up on that fandom as much, is it just me or does anyone else think that the author never intended the character to be 'redeemed' and have positive attributes until she saw how good the actor in the movie was? Like maybe originally it was a more blatantly 'creepy crush' but the actor is so quality that they became more sympathetic and the bad implications more swept under the rug?
Um, let’s see how I can say this while maintaining the mystery.
I disagree about the author not intending to portray him as redeemed. I think the epilogue makes it clear that we are supposed to forgive him for all the shit he did. The main character’s acceptance and even endorsement kind of paints, in my opinion, an incomplete and incorrect picture of the man he was.
But, yes, I agree that the actor did elevate the character to something more enjoyable. In fact, many *of my favorite moments in the movie series belong to him. Furthermore, since they can’t put everything into the movies, a lot more of his - in my opinion - more disgusting actions are left out. So movie viewers don’t really get the whole story.
This probably isn’t cryptic enough, but whatever lol.
