She knew how it looked. She knew how it sounded especially since Tony couldn’t shut up about how his Aunt Peggy could see things clearly. Peggy never wanted to hurt Steve but she couldn’t present amendments to the Accords if she went on the run, if she followed him like she had for a very long time. So she stayed behind, worked on the amendments to make the Accords actually something worth signing instead of a document that was created out of fear. 

Except the UN didn’t vote in any of her amendments which rightfully pissed Peggy off. The system she had devoted her life to had let her down and there was no way that she was signing the original document. So after some digging, she found out where Steve was staying, was hiding. She packed a bag, told Tony goodbye, and made her way out to where Steve was. 

She stood outside his door for a few minutes, preparing herself for whatever reaction he was going to have at seeing her again. With one final deep breath she knocked a pattern on the door that they used during the war to indicate that the person on the other side was friendly. “Hello, darling.” She said once he opened the door.

“...Oh! You’re serious.” Of all the people that Steve Rogers could go to for comfort Darcy hadn’t expected to be the chosen one. Sure, they’d had a few friendly conversations. Darcy had hoped that she wasn’t imagining the chemistry there, or even the signs of genuine friendship, but she’d been wrong one too many times before. Like peeling off a layer of rusty armor, slowly her posture relaxed and Darcy loosened her stance. Her arms raised in invitation (and maybe a little bit of surrender) and she waited for the much taller man to take initiative and step into her space. “You don’t really have to ask, but I appreciate the thought.”

Peggy’s eyes glint with mischief as she locks eyes with Steve, tongue darting out to lick her lips. They’ve been flirting all night, making eyes at each other across the room. And quite frankly, enough is enough.

She downs the rest of her drink, nodding her head towards the door, knowing Steve won’t be far behind as she goes in search of any semblance of privacy for them.
