Miyako’s frown only deepened at first. The idea that Pro Heroes sometimes couldn’t avoid dying... it was true, of course. Miyako had accepted it herself. In fact, she had a rather easy time accepting it, since she had already accepted her own possible death quite early in life. Having an uncontrollable, highly chaotic quirk did that to a child.
Even so, she didn’t like to think that way about others. She wanted to believe that everyone, even villains, could be saved. More than that, she had to believe it. On those days she doubted things like that, the injustice of the world had threatened to tip her over into the villain category herself. So instead, she convinced herself of an idealistic lie. Sure, it was harder to live that way, she wouldn’t deny it. The guilt hit her right in the chest every time something went wrong. But it was better that than risk slipping and deciding to unleash her quirk on the public, the people who depended on her to protect them.
The next sentiment was a little more comforting, at least. “Yeah, you’re right. Kids can’t be blamed for running from a crime scene. I wouldn’t ask anyone else to stick around in that sort of situation, so it’s unfair to ask that of my younger self, right?” She sighed, running a hand through her hair. “That villain was pretty scary, honestly. I’d be intimidated even now.” But she was stronger, too. She didn’t run anymore.
She sat up, curling her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. It felt like a more secure position, as if it brought her some sort of safety while engaged in such a serious discussion. “As horrible as it was, it’s also why I’m here. If it hadn’t happened, I’d never have realized why I wanted to be a hero. I made a promise then to save someone. Someone special to me.” She was getting a little too close to revealing her secret there. If anyone knew she was friends with a villain, that she was actively keeping from capturing her, then things could get pretty bad for the both of them. “... Anyway. Now I try to save everyone I can.” Including saving villains from themselves. “I have to get even stronger to make that ideal a reality.”
Augh. Dramatic, much? Still, she couldn’t help talking like that when discussing her resolve. Blushing a little with embarrassment, she changed the subject. “I’ve... never heard you talk about your story before. If it’s alright with you, I’d like to.” Her tone had changed, then, to the kind she used when rescuing people. After all, there were plenty of ways to ‘save’ someone. Just being a listening ear was one of Miyako’s specialties.
