Shieldless Lothian is like one of the coolest characters whose appearance only mentioned in item descriptions.

Do you trust me if I say he's the Artorias of Dark Souls 2?

Prior to the DLC, Artorias is a legend figure that only got mentioned in item descriptions.

Artorias is desribed as "had an unbendable will of steel, and was unmatched with a greatsword"

Lothian is described as "His determination and diligence were unmatched, especially on the battlefied" and "No warrior matched the ferocity of unbeatable Lothian"

The Abysswatchers believe Artorias never used a shield, and Lothian is also famous for being "shieldless"

Lothian's Ring of Giants is the equivalence of Wolf Ring in DS2

Also Lothian's Stone Ring was found by defeating the transphobic ogre, which means he was likely trying to reach the transgender coffin, which means- ARGGHGHHHHHHH *getting dragged away by transphobic ogres*

It seems like Shieldless Lothian's name is etymologically connected with the Lothric's royal family regardless of whether it is Japanese or English variant? In both cases it is! 🤔

At the same time, it is implied that Lothian was a friend of the Giants, which might explain his strive to go after (the) legendary/folklore/fabled dragon (伝説). Forossa, despite being worshippers of Nameless King, strangely developed a penchant for using Magic instead of Miracles; Ivory King literally uses a magical sword and sage Azal was from Forossa:

Not to mention the whole tricks with invisible creatures and objects, that can only be seen using an artificial glass eye that Eleum Loyce uses!

Like maybe Lothian got very pissed that Magic (which is also Seath) """ruined""" their very cool and awesome country, and set off in adventure to seek to kill Seath or an incarnation of him at least? Havel would be SOOOOO proud of his bigotry fdshfhdsfh It would be very ironic if he was indeed connected with Oceiros + Lorian + Lothric then. 🤔

@val-of-the-north also questioned that since Vendrick also killed the Old Ones in his time, maybe after dying Lothian actually became an Old One with Gwyn's essence? Would be a poor taste considering Gwyn's relationship with Seath, but Gwyn did start basically a genocide of dragons ahah. It would also logically transmit onto THE Firelinking family of Dark Souls 3

Shieldless Lothianposting again. I also lowkey love the subtle humor of the detail that we found his axe on a corpse ALONGSIDE WITH A SHIELD.

Which could mean two things.

A falconer found his axe and utilized it

Like many legends in Dark Souls, his legend about being "shieldless" is simply not the whole truth and Lothian actually used a shield in his later age. Like many other Forossans, he became a sellsword but specifically a falconer. And this is such a fun thing for me because the falconers are actually Warriors of Sunlight! (we farm Sunlight Medals from them). And yet WoS in DS2 actually does not use lightning spears since their devotion leans more toward Solaire than the Firstborn. Meanwhile, Lothian - a Forossan and thus Faraam's worshipper - did utitlize lightning in battles.

To me, it feels like two different branches of faith in the same god crossing paths - similar to the Way of Blue and the Darkmoon Blades. IDKKK i find it so interesting how the original Warriors of Sunlight lost their lightning privilege because they were not directly worshipping the Firstborn + their god was busy working with Forossans now (he still grants the Sunlight Spear to WoS though, still aligned with his personnality that he watches over his warriors)

I'm making a Lothian build atm, but idk what armor to sport.
