Rukia had barely registered what her captain had said, only able to maintain this drop in temperature for a few minutes before having to carefully raise her own back to warmth. 

It wasn't her bankaii... yet. She was close though! She could feel it, each time she dove deeper, going lower in temperature, it was getting closer! What was getting harder was coming back out of it. She should bring it up to her captain eventually... preferably before she was trapped in the frozen tundra of her own making.

She shivered, feeling herself nearly back to her normal body temperature. There was a bit of frostbite on her fingertips that burned and needed to be treated. But Rukia dismissed it as a concern for later, when she had escorted her captain to his next meeting. Speaking of...

Rukia turned, raising an eyebrow as she watched her captain, not entirely registering what he was doing. "Er... Taicho? Shouldn't we begin readying ourselves to go to Squad 1?"

He had called the odds, calculated the stakes. He had checked every box that he could think of, in his search for assurance. For unrefusable proof that his analysis had been fair and just-- and still the Spider had come up short, prone to doubts and uncertainties that threatened to cloud his judgement, tempt him to make the wrong decision.

"I can't answer that." The truth escapes before he has the chance to recall it, an admittance of information that sees his broad posture deflate, shoulders sinking with the departure of surety. "As long as we make sure this world doesn't collapse..." Perishing, because he took his eyes off the prize, spread himself too thin, instead of leveraging the help of others. Aid, like that offered freely, by the man opposite him.

"...That's all that matters. Can't put a value on that." Because he's already tried. "So.. Still wish to join me?"

The Fae Queen had just finished putting her tack away when his voice came out of nowhere and startled her; making her drop those leather saddlebags brimming with books. She whirled on him and huffed; blushing. Well, at least he hadn't been too terribly loud about it! Still, she's frowning some before settling her hands on her hips. "So what if I did? You had been saying we were going to town for the past three days then left me unsupervised today--so I went! I don't need a knight all the time, you know...."

Ellyn then crouches down to stuff the books back into her saddlebags and pick them up again in haste. Inwardly, she hoped he was still not as adept at reading the flourishing Welsh inked in gold across the leather tomes. After all, she might die of embarrassment if he knew she was reading such tawdry trash. Well, at least for a good three-to-five minutes or so anyway. Then she sighed softly and met his gaze. "You were busy doing gods knows what else and I was tired of waiting--end of story. A quick jaunt to town to pick up the newest released novels isn't a cause for concern, you know." @shieldofwaves

Mornings weren't his favorite to start with, but he was even more reluctant to leave Jushiro's bed. Alas, his bladder didn't really tend to leave that up to him, so he'd grudgingly pulled himself from the bed to go relieve that particular pressure. He'd already been headed back to his lover's side when the white haired man spoke.

A smile settled over Shunsui's lips at the soft words and the large man carefully pushed the blankets towards his lover before he laid down. He tugged the blankets just as carefully over himself, making sure not to let too much cold in while he pressed himself close to Jushiro. "Where else would I be going, my heart?"
