[ GUARD ]
Gepard let's out a tired sigh, as he walks around the once lit up streets of the Administrative District. Making sure to mind his steps as gently as possible, being mindful of the many different people that wanted to sleep near the large blaze of fire they had constructed in the middle as soon as the heating and lights went out. While it wasn't the most ideal, but desperate times calls for desperate measures.
The Captain, having already been on guard for possibly an hour now, eventually makes his way full circle. Not patrolling too far into the city in case danger was lurking, but ensuring no blind spots were left unchecked. Watching the fire as much as he could throughout that time.
He approaches once more, nodding to his shift partner with a sad smile before his eyes rove, for what feels like the hundredth time, across the plaza. "I greatly apologize that your trip back to Belebog has ended up like this." Gently speaking as to not wake the sleeping forms that huddle around the main source of heat.
"This wasn't supposed too..." He closes his eyes to try and quell the many emotions that wanted to seep out. Knowing they wouldn't benefit anyone. Especially the citizens that desperately needed the comfort and aid right now in this scary time. He opens his eyes with fiery determination easily read in them. Remembering his oath he made all those years ago after being anointed to the position he holds today.
To protect Belebog and the citizens at any cost.
"I thank you for the assistance in all this nonetheless." He smiles. "It's good to see a familiar face. I hope you and the Astral's Expresses travels have been well."
The fire, maintained carefully by the joint efforts of the Silvermane Guards and a few civilians who remain awake and try to assist, illuminates the area in a warm hue of gold, painting a rather somber scene. It's almost reminiscent of visions of an apocalypse - and it is here that Dan Heng winces at his own thoughts, remembering that for the people of Belobog, this comparison was actually quite literal and accurate. It's a chilling thought to realize once more that this city truly is the last bastion of humanity on the planet, and any threat to it equals a threat to its survival as a whole.
When the time comes for patrols and guard, Dan Heng finds it natural to volunteer to help out. The Silvermane Guards are running ragged, trying to keep the still burning fires and heaters from dying down, and few are left for the regular rounds to keep safety and order. Having earned their trust means that he can offer to assist and be accepted, and so he takes up part of the duties; the ever reliable commander, Gepard, takes the other.
When the other speaks with such a sensation of guilt and regret in his voice, Dan Heng sighs, shaking his head.
"You have nothing to apologize for. None of this is your fault, and you're doing your best to keep going. We wouldn't dream of blaming you - or anyone here - for this situation."
He has never been particularly skilled in offering comfort, he feels... but still, he does try to give Gepard a light smile for encouragement.
"To us, having seen many worlds now, Belobog remains an example of strength and courage in the face of hardship. Many would have either given up, or abandoned their homes and moved elsewhere, but you didn't, and we think it's most admirable. And if the going gets tough, we'll always have your back in whatever way we can. Our travels are enjoyable for sure, but this is one of the places we always look forward to visiting again."
