puppy love like i’m a kid again

clark kent and bruce wayne first met when they were children. bruce once saw some cute farm animals on a picture book and asked thomas if they could go to the midwest to see some, just for a visit. besides, it’d be nice to be out of gotham. thomas made time and took them all out to kansas, in smallville. at the kent’s farm jonathan and thomas and alfred mostly talked and gathered some produce to take back to wayne manor. both martha’s got along swimmingly over nice pie, while clark tries to not intimidate a very shy but curious bruce. seeing the same animals from the picture book bruce was a pretty darling with that soft smile.

even more, it was his eyes that stole the farm boy’s heart irrecoverably. clark likes the light in them. like sunlight seeping into ice shards, and then reflecting in all colours. and then he was gone after that visit.

because of the severe trauma bruce went through, and maybe even the confusion wrought by martha’s episodes and the comments that come with it, bruce’s memories were buried so deeply in his psyche he mostly forgot them lest he takes a long while to illustrate them again. including meeting clark.

so bruce’s “first” meeting would have been a chance encounter, where clark kent was in gotham for a week, assigned to interview at a gala later as cat grant was sick. clark figured he’d meet bruce at that gala, maybe say hi we used to know each other, instead though-

bruce was kidnapped that day, ever since he has been making efforts to be less of a recluse, following the floods wrought by riddler. it was something he could get out of in time, but today he was little less awake, so he was slow to realise the metal bat hammering behind him, aiming for the head. only made enough movement in time to comm alfred his whereabouts.

already hearing the disorder clark discerns a planned kidnapping near the area. instantly changing into his superman suit, he finds bruce wayne. bruce was quietly suspicious before he was enamoured by the…everything spectacle.

superman left him in a safe area to be picked up, only to realise that safe area was the fucking roof top and oh god what had he done. on the other hand? at least he can maybe meet bruce as clark and catch up before the gala. so, running with the excuse that clark was told by superman that there was a person on the rooftop, clark accompanied him to get down.

that’s how clark finds out that bruce didn’t remember him, at all. he also notes the light in bruce’s eyes has dimmed remarkably all those years ago.

“hey, did you know that we met before? i swear you look familiar. is your name bruce?”

“i don’t know…? yes?”

“you see-“

during the week, bruce admitted his very 100% tiny crush on superman to alfred (more so, pulled information by alfred’s insistence).

at the gala, clark overhears this and turns red. his childhood crush likes him?! well, it’s superman, but him, nevertheless?? he stopped when alfred said smth along the lines of, “well, he sure is dashing if you’re collecting even his arrest photos.”

note: this is post the batman 2022 and superman 2025 movies. considering how battinson is a lot more reclusive and maybe more suspicious, i’d think he’d thoroughly analyse the lex luthor situation, the parents’ message and superman’s actions regardless of what the world thinks of him since then, before even feeding into his spark of infatuation. even more, he crushes hard during the process of research.

so yeah, childhood crush, silly identity love square shenanigans without the amount of crack mlb takes daily, clark falls first but bruce falls harder, black sad wet meowmeow cat gets with big golden retriever dog. maybe some flashbacks, maybe some conversations.

oh and let’s add true mates omegaverse au just to add to the identity porn drama type shi type shi hell yeah

oh and dory- since she doesn’t have a full name, i hc as doreen “dory”madge blake. bc her character was a nod to harriet cooper, who is dick’s aunt and also housekeeper. so, madge blake, the actress’ name for the 1966 batman movie playing harriet, is used for dory’s middle name and surname. as a nod (nodding). i also just want to develop dory.

i’d like to think that thomas met dory in an unsafe situation where he was told to check her over by a sketchy guy. lying to the sketchy guy before quietly letting security know about the man that dory needed privacy for some surgery, he let her escape. then she says she hadn’t a job in this hard economy and finds it difficult over here, and knowing that it’d be cruel to leave alfred to do almost everything in the manor, he offered her a place as the wayne manor’s housekeeper. if i felt like incorporating harriet cooper in the future, it would be like when dory gathered enough funds and seeing how much it hurt to see bruce hurt (after finding out he’s batman), she left wayne manor and only comes occasionally as a guest, as cooper would take her place.

clark kent -> love sm + annoying (boyfailure) reporter <- bruce wayne

batman -> love sm + tsuntsun coworker bestie <- superman

hmo hmo it has to start out that way bc bruce will be attracted to supes’ symbol of hope and kindness + clark’s alr got a childhood crush from the start on him simply soso. bruce is just his mother’s son. oh no? this doesnt make sense? sorry. i’m sleep deprived. was it not obvious from the fact i cba to draw the bg and slapped the riddler’s files on thomas. worth it tho. i will make hcs on scent + their secondary gender
