hell yeah Shikaku ...! adhd king... becomes the master of wrangling his hyperfixations to his own needs. Probably says he works best when it's quiet but if things are actually silent he loses his mind and can't focus on a damn thing until there's some sort of background noise

ADHD and Trans King Shikaku. I can see him letting Shika and his friends come over and be loud bc Inoichi and Choza need silence. Or he gets a hedgehog and lets the little fucker run on his wheel as continuous background noise for him to work under. No one but Tsunade, Kakashi, and Shikamaru understand it and they don’t question it when Shikaku can come up with a plan under pressure and while a battle is going on. UNLESS he’s severely overwhelmed and hypersensitive to noise like during the war.

Shikaku is an early riser and also early to bed as an adult, which was a huge adjustment considering his desire to sleep all day rivaled Shikamaru's at one point, unlike his son though he was very active and driven... as long as it was at night (HC)

Shikaku was just like me then ~ only productive at night. I feel like it was during his early jonin years where he didn’t have too many responsibilities as the jonin commander BUT he was also adjusting to the growing number of missions. he didn’t like wasting the time he spent awake whether he just couldn’t sleep or he was worked up over a mission. Unlike Shikamaru who was more than happy to stare at the ceiling and zone out. I think he has to be up early bc of his duties but everyone exhausts him and he has to go to bed in order to regain his ability to be near people.
