Living the dream. ||Shailene and Miles||
Miles: As Miles ran down the Fire Escape stairs of his apartment, he struggled to put his shoe on to make it down to Shailene. He made it down the stairs, his shoe on, but tripped out and stumbled his way to the passengers side of Shai's car. He opened it, got in, and shut the door quickly behind him. "Sorry, I tried to hurry.." He said leaning over and pulling her into a deep kiss. "I missed you.." He mumbled barely pulling his lips from hers.
Shai: Shailene sighed, impatiently drumming her fingers against the steering wheel. Her heart flipped when she saw Miles coming down the fire escape, and she shook her head at herself. Even after all this time, he still gave her butterflies. She gasped when she saw him fall, leaning forward in her seat to see if he was okay. Before she had the chance to ask him, his lips were already on hers and she temporarily forgot it all, melting under the feeling of being so close to him. She smiled at his words, deepening the kiss for a few more seconds until she needed a breath. "I missed you too, but when I told you to hurry I didn't mean hurry so much you get hurt, are you okay?" She asked, eyebrows furrowing as she reached out to touch his cheek.
Miles: Miles nodded kissing her once more. "I fall all the time baby.. it's no big deal. So where is this amazing apartment?" He asked placing his hand on her thigh.
Shai: Shailene bit her lip, nodding to him but still making a mental note to keep an eye on him, just in case. "This amazing apartment is in Palo Alto. And it's beautiful." She replied, shifting gears and pulling out of the parking lot.
Miles: He nodded watching her as she drove. She had to have been the most beautiful thing on this planet. "So you think this is the one?" Miles asked, giving him more of a reason to admire her beauty.
Shai: Shailene smiled, taking a moment to think. Her eyes locked with his as she stopped at a red light, resisting the urge to say that she wasn't sure the apartment was the one but she knew that of all the people on the planet, he was the one. "I think it could be. And if it's not, I have a full tank of gas, we can keep looking." She said after a moment, focusing on the road again but holding out one of her hands for him to take.
Miles: Miles kissed Shailene's cheek as they came to a halt at the red light, he took their intertwined their fingers. "Well, if you're happy with it, we'll get it because if you're happy I'm happy." He watched as they drove, trying to slyly look at his beautiful girlfriend. "Hey Shai, I love you. I just want you to know that."
Shai: Shailene smiled, stroking his hand with her thumb. "I'm sure you'll love it too. But I won't be happy if you're not so if it's not the one you have to tell me." She said, squeezing his fingers gently. Her smile broke out a little wider and she had never felt more at home when she heard him say he loved her, everything just felt right now. "I love you too Miles." She said slowly, liking the way the words felt in her mouth.
Miles: He couldn't help but laugh as they pulled into the nicest apartments he'd seen in the time he'd moved to LA. "Shai, leave it to you to find something that could remind me of home in the middle of California." As soon as they parked Miles hopped out of the car, rushing over to her side, and opened the door for her. He took her hand to help her out of the car, wrapping an arm around Shailene's shoulder as they walked, pulling her close to him and kissing the top of her head. The couple got to the door, and sadly Miles had to break from his spot holding Shai. He opened the door for the gorgeous girl in front of him, shamelessly checking her out as walked past him. "So," He cleared his throat, hoping she hadn't caught his wandering eyes, "Where is this magical apartment?"
Shai: Shailene grinned, pulling her keys out if the ignition. "It has to be just right, and going to your home is part of what got us here, isn't it?" She asked, wiggling her nose at him. She reached out and took his hand getting out and smoothing over her clothes. Her hand found it's way around his waist, pulling him close and taking a breath. His scent washing over her and being enough to make her knees weak. A whimper involuntarily escaped from her lips when he let go-she already missed the contact. She mumbled a thank you, passing through the door and instantly taking his arm as he stopped beside her. "This magical apartment is on the fourth floor. So we can walk up if you want."
Miles: "Then let's make our way to the fourth floor, but personally I'd rather take the elevator cause those stairs look like they'd probably kill me." Miles admitted, pulling Shailene by the waist, while they waited for the elevator. He once more brought his lips to hers, his hand sliding into her back pocket as it rested freely on her ass. Miles looked up only to see an older couple looking at them and smiling as they walked past. He couldn't have been more relieved as the shining metal doors opened and they walked in. He pressed the number four, holding Shai close once more.
Shai: "Good, me too." Shai chuckled. She smiled, kissing back softly as her fingers wrapped into his belt loops and she tugged him closer. Her cheeks burned red when she saw the elderly couple, eyes glancing at his hand in her pocket. Once they got inside the elevator, she rested a Hanson his shoulder, burying her face in his chest. "If you're not careful with where you put your hands, I'll be pulling off your clothes before we get to the second floor." She said, staring up at him with a mischievous smirk.
Miles: Miles laughed softly as he looked down at Shailene. His hand remained on her ass, as he gave her a look as if daring her to do so. He wondered when he was going to have to tell her the truth about himself, "Shai, I need to tell you something.." Miles started, planting a soft kiss on her cheek. "I--" As soon as he started the doors flung open. "Lead the way.." He said sighing with relief.
Shai: Shailene sighed, nodding as she carefully took his hand and led him out into the hallway. She could tell there was something weighing on him and she wanted to help take away whatever he was feeling, but it also wasn't her place to pry. She continued down the hall until she found the door labelled 208. She glanced back at Miles, shooting him a smile before pulling out the key she'd asked the realtor for and unlocking the door. Shailene reached out, pushing the door open and smiling at the sight. They'd walked right into the living room, which was arguably the second biggest room in the apartment, covered with the kind of carpet that made we want to just lay on the floor. "The bedroom is a little bigger, I thought some space would be nice." She whispered, stepping in a little more to show him the rest.
Miles: With a mouth wide open, Miles stepped in. The apartment reminded him of his house back home and it made his smile grow wider. "Leave it to you to find the best apartment in all of LA..." He said grabbing her hand and pulling her into the bedroom, and laying down on the floor. "So I'm thinking that this is our bed would be, so come and lay down and tell me if it feels like this is the one." Miles said, looking up at her patting the spot on the floor next to him.
Shai: "You picked a pretty awesome girlfriend." Shai teased, sticking her tongue out at him. She giggled, following him into the bedroom. She stopped at the door, heart swelling at the thought. /our/ bed.. She repeated in her head. She smiled, going over and laying down on the floor next to him. They lay there looking up at the ceiling and she felt like this was the part of her that was missing. "This..." She whispered, taking his hand. "Is definitely the one."
Miles: Miles looked over at her once he caught on to what she was saying. "Yeah, this is definitely the one..." He murmured bringing her hand up to his lips and kissing it softly. "But as for the apartment goes, I think this is a good place for us to start out, until we're ready for the whole big house, white fence, dogs, stuff like that." Miles got up pulling Shailene with him. "Are you happy here, Shai?"
Shai: Shailene smiled, listening to his words. 'Good place to start' stuck with her, the fact that he was as confident in a future with her as she was with him. She hummed, wrapping her arms around his waist. "I couldn't be happier, especially because I'm here with you." She told him, stretching up and kissing him sweetly.
Miles: "Then we'll take it." He said before kissing Shailene back. Miles picked her up with ease, and carried her throughout their soon to be new apartment. "Well, Shailene, it looks like we're home." He set her down on the kitchen counter, making his way between her legs and kissing her deeply.
Shai: Shailene chuckled, relaxing in his touch. She was getting used to him carrying her around the house, and it made her feel good, safe. "Home sweet home." She whispered, cupping his face in her hands and kissing back deeply. She kissed him until her lips hurt and her lungs started to burn. Her Hazel eyes staring at him when she pulled away, resting one of her hands on his neck. "What did you want to tell me in the elevator baby?" She asked, wrapping her legs around his.
Miles: "Alright it's better to just tell you now," Miles said, looking down at her. "After I started acting, and I mean really acting I started putting off dating, and I really didn't try much as long as I got to work and do what made me happy. I guess that kind of put my love life back a little further than I expected. I kind of.. I mean, I'm a-- I've never..." He paused at a loss for words trying to explain that he was still a virgin was easier in his head.
Shai: Shailene's eyebrows furrowed as she listened, trying to process what he was saying. It sounded like Demi's suspicion that he was a virgin was right, and though she didn't mind at all, she was both shocked and a little guilty. She wished she was too, just so she could give herself to him completely. She reached out to stroke his cheek, giving him an encouraging smile. "Are you trying to tell me you've never had sex before?" She asked, eyes searching his for a reaction.
Miles: With a groan, Miles nodded. "That's exactly what I'm saying to you." He could feel the heat in his face move up to his ears. "Not saying I've never done anything, but I just... I didn't trust anybody, and I was honestly kind of hoping that you'd be my first." Miles attempted to keep his cool, but he was embarrassed and nervous. "I feel like a fucking 15 year old right now."
Shai: Shailene chuckled softly, kissing his cheek. "If I'm gonna be your first, I'm gonna see to it that I'm your last." She said, squeezing his neck to keep him close. There was no way she was sharing him, ever. "The only regret I have is that your not my first.." She whispered, looking down.
Miles: Miles looked at Shailene, "Hey... don't do that, if I had my choice I would've asked you earlier, but I thought I should wait. I don't care if I'm not your first, just as long as I'm your last baby." He said kissing her softly.
Shai: Shailene sighed, unable to fight the smile on her face. "You will be my last, and my best. I'm sure of it." She whispered, kissing back sweetly.
Miles: "Go call the Realtor and tell her we'll take it, and we'll need a key tonight because I think we'll be busy moving in tonight." Miles said his hands working up her inner thighs slowly.
Shai: Shailene bit her lip, eyes glancing from his face to his hands. "Okay..but I haven't ordered a bed yet." She mumbled. "I went furniture shopping with Zoe but I told her I'd get one with you.."
Miles: Miles smirked, raising an eyebrow. "Who said anything about needing a bed? That carpet is amazing and we'll go buy pillows."
Shai: "Hm, if my memory serves me correctly, you said something about a bed about five minutes ago. Ya know, 'I'm thinking this is where /our/ bed is gonna go'?" She repeated, unknowingly emphasizing the word our instead of bed like she was supposed to.
Miles: "Okay, I meant we don't need a bed tonight. Or we can buy an air mattress?" He said softly kissing at her neck softly. "We will go buy /our/ mattress tomorrow. For tonight we'll buy /our/ bottle of wine, and sleep in /our/ home."
Shai: "Air mattress sounds like a plan, it can double as a couch until that gets here." Shai said. She groaned softly, burying her face in his neck. "I'm sorry, I just..I really love you, and it really hit me when you said that. That all of this isn't just a cruel trick my mind is playing on me and I'm gonna wake up. It's real, you're mine." She whispered hugging him tightly. "What are we going to drink /our/ bottle of wine in?" She asked, raising her eyebrows.
Miles: Miles chuckled, "Don't worry, I love you too, and there's nothing playing with you... this is real. We're real." He murmured looking at Shailene, into her Hazel eyes. "Let me guess IKEA shipments are gonna be coming in for the next couple of months, huh?"
Shai: Shailene leaned forward, resting her forehead on his. "Good. Cuz if it wasn't real, I'd be immensely wrecked when I woke up." She chuckled, shrugging. "You might have guessed right, you'll just have to wait and see."
Miles: "Oh and about that wine, I think we can drink it out of the bottle for one night." Miles said grabbing his phone of out his back pocket and passing it to Shailene. "Call her, tell her we'll take it and then we'll go get some stuff." He grabbed Shai and twirled her around. He couldn't stop thinking about how lucky he was, he was finally getting his life together with the woman he'd been in love with for years now.
Shai: Shailene took his phone, nodding as she dialled the number she'd come to memorize over the past week. She laughed, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and kissing his cheek when he finally set her down. "I'll be right back." She whispered, taking the phone into the living room.
Miles: Miles took a look around, taking a step out toward the balcony. He watched the cars move fast below them, the sun had just set and the temperature dropped with the sun. When he came inside, he walked up behind Shai as quietly as he could, wrapping his arms around her tiny waist. Miles smirked to himself as he took advantage of the way her hair was pushed to one side, giving him access to her neck.
Shai: Shailene smiled as she hung up the phone, siting up from where she was laying on the carpet. She let out a sigh, shaking her head with a smile. Her dreams were coming true, and everything bad that happened had just been a way of getting her here. She got up, peeking into the kitchen to look for Miles, frowning when she didn't see him. "Babe?" She called out, gasping when she felt a pair of strong arms wrap around her from behind. She smiled, tilting her head a little more to give him better access than he already had. "Hi.."
Miles: Miles kissed at Shailene's neck a few more times before turning her around to look at her. "So are we all good?" He asked, trying to hide the excitement in his voice.
Shai: Shailene smiled, handing him his phone back. "We're all good. I just have to go to the landlord before we leave and finalize everything."
Miles: "Why don't we order from that little Italian place we passed by? I'm sure they have wine they'll deliver and we can just do all of our shopping tomorrow?" Miles asked, laying down on the carpet of their new apartment. "Or text Theo, ask him if he wants to bring us some stuff and come by to see the new apartment." After he spoke he wrinkled his nose, Miles loved both Shailene and Theo but since their kiss, their group had separated quite a bit.
Shai: "How about you call the Italian place and I go downstairs and deal with everything?" Shailene suggested, looking over at Miles. As much as she loved Theo, she hadn't physically seen him since he kissed her and she stormed out, and she wasn't sure she was ready to see him again.
Miles: Miles nodded, giving her a quick kiss and an even quicker swat to the ass before getting on the phone and calling for pizza and a couple bottles of wine. He pondered over the look of tension that washed over his girlfriend's face when he brought up their best friend. "Hey! I love you!" Miles said, watching Shailene walk towards the door.
Shai: Shai giggled, grabbing her wallet from beside her shoes, bending down painfully slowly since she knew he was watching. "I love you too!" She called from the hallway, blowing a kiss to him and then shutting the door. She bit her lip as she made her way to the elevator, wondering if she should tell Miles she was also going to pay first months rent, but he decided against it.
Miles: Miles brought his knuckle to his mouth, biting down on it as he watched Shailene bend before his ever eyes. After ordering two pizzas, and two bottles of win, Miles headed downstairs meeting up with Shai in the landlord's office, wiggling his eyebrows as he gave his card to pay for first and last months rent, reading over the 12 month contact he was signing before scribbling his name on the dotted line.
Shai: Shailene turned her head when she heard the door open, surprised to see her boyfriend standing there. "Oh hi." She smiled, pulling out the chair beside her so he could take a seat. She glanced at the landlord, biting her lip as she looked over at Miles-a smirk playing in her lips-and then back at Shailene. Shai cleared her throat, protectively slipping a hand onto his leg. "This is my /boyfriend/ and I guess it's good he's here since he has to sign the lease." As she opened her wallet to get the money she needed, she caught Miles reaching across the table, card in hand and she shot him a look.
Miles: "Sorry, where are my manors? I'm Miles, Miles Teller." He said shaking hands with the landlord when he collected his card. "I thought I'd come before she had a chance to pay for anything, since she's been IKEA shopping it's the least I could do." Miles smirked, pushing the paper over to Shailene so she could sign. "You know if you keep that face up, it's gonna stick with you and you'll just look angry all the time, Shailene."
Shai: Shailene shook her head, signing the paper and sliding it over to the landlord. She picked up the extra key, and handing it to Miles as she got up. "Thank you for everything." She said, shooting a smile-which was almost painfully fake at the landlord and leaving the room. She leaned against the wall as she pressed the elevator button, shaking her head at Miles when he joined her. "You suck." She said, smiling a little.
Miles: Miles frowned, his arms snaking around his girlfriend's waist. "Stop it, Shai.. you don't get to be mad at me for being the man in the relationship, if I want to get something for you, I'm gonna get it for you. I know you too well, you aren't sneaky enough to get away with paying for /our/ apartment."
Shai: Shailene sighed, resting an arm on his back and bringing him closer to her. "But you paid for our first real date, and my plane ticket to PA, I wanted to pay for this." She pouted, looking up at him. "And you're too freakin beautiful, turn it off, I don't want her to look at you anymore." She said, glaring in the direction of the landlord's office.
Miles: Miles groaned, shaking his head and leaning into kiss her lips. "No one else besides you thinks I'm 'beautiful' which is very feminine, by the way, that is like boner be gone in words." He couldn't hold back a laugh, pressing his lips against Shailene's.
Shai: Shailene smiled, pecking back. "Who the fuck said beautiful has to be assigned to only girls though? Like if a boy wants to wear pink, it's just a colour, same with beautiful-it's just an adjective..and honestly, I think beautiful works for you because it's accompanying word is breathtaking and you always take my breath away." She replied, fingers tangling in his shirt as she kissed back slowly.
Miles: "You're on a roll today, Shai." Was all he could manage to say before placing his hands on her cheeks and kissing her again. Never would he be able to understand why he got so lucky, why of all the people in the world she'd picked him. Miles was average, and compared to Shailene, he felt the world should bow down. The elevator doors swung open with a ding, and he backed up, tugging Shailene with him. "You're beautiful, Shai... you're the definition of beauty at it's finest."
Shai: Shailene chuckled, leaning into his touch and kissing back passionately. He treated her with such care, something she wasn't used to. And she never had to be afraid to just say what was on her mind. Those things told her this is how love is supposed to be, and she couldn't imagine ever being with anyone else. Her heart began to race as he pulled her inside the elevator and she didn't let her lips get farther than a few inches from his. She shook her head, taking a slow breath. "There's plenty of things about me that aren't beautiful." She whispered.
Miles: Miles eyes narrowed as she spoke, pulling her as close as possible to him. The feeling of their bodies together made a surge course through his veins. "You are the most beautiful person on this planet, do you understand me? Everything about you, everything that makes up Shailene is beautiful... you make the world a better place by existing, and it's a pity you don't see that. You're a queen in my eyes, a flower child type of queen."
Shai: Shailene closed her eyes, the feeling of her body pressed against his steady her heartbeat. "You're the only person who's ever said-o-or thought that about me.." She mumbled, tensing a little as the memories of being called worthless and the only touch she felt back then being a harsh slap to any vulnerable part of her body. She fought to shove it away, reminding herself it was over now, she's safe now until she came back to reality, mumbling it to herself once more and hoping Miles didn't hear her.
Miles: Miles watched, frowning at the feeling of her tensing beneath him. In that moment he knew that there was unexplained reasons for her insecurities and without a word he brought his lips to her head. "I love you, Shailene... just know that. Never, ever, ever, forget that."
Shai: Shailene nodded, tightening her grip on him. "I love you so much." She whispered, peering up into his eyes. She let go of him with one hand, fingers smoothing over his ear. "There's still some things I have to tell you, and I promise I will, I just don't know if I'm ready to talk about it yet.." She mumbled, another wave of self hate washing over her as she did. He'd been honest with her, he deserved to know the truth. "Or maybe I can after the wine.." She said, slightly out of seriousness but also to lighten the mood.
Miles: "You don't have to tell me anything, until your ready." Miles said, wrapping an arm around her as the elevator doors opened. "I love you for who you are, and if that means a little mystery, so be it. I want you to be comfortable. We're still best friends no matter what, that'll always be first." They walked quietly walked to their apartment, his grip on her never loosening.
Shai: Shailene smiled, leaning into his side. If there was anyone on the planet who could make her feel like everything would be okay, it was Miles and she had no idea what she'd ever do without him. "You're amazing." Was all she could say in response, bouncing on her heels when they reached the door of their new apartment.
Miles: With a happy sigh, Miles unlocked their front door and picked Shai up effortlessly. "Now you can tell everyone I carried you over the threshold." He wiggled his eyebrows, placing her back on her feet but twirling her around before taking a seat on the floor and bringing up some music on his phone. "Food should be here soon, and the wine."
Shai: Shailene chuckled, snuggling into his embrace. "You carry me everywhere." She teased. "I don't know which one I'm more excited for." Shai replied, winking at Miles as she took a seat next to him, running her fingers along the smooth carpet.
