more ffxiv oc thoughts.

i think i said goats at one point but yeah no shilu's clan has like specially bred mountain climbing horses. the biggest events of the year occur in the spring (~late may) when the herds are taken to the alpine pastures, and in the fall (sept-oct) when the salmon spawn. there's a celebration for both with the salmon runs festival being the largest event in the year.

i was thinking about luca's forest names and i want it to be about the first snow of the year or like powdery snow. maybe adult name something to do with a flower.

also i realized today i could just name a viera bjork and that'd be canon compliant. i dont know what to do with this information.

well tumblr isn’t letting me display multiple images side by side in the same row for some reason so this is what you get. shilu’s fashion was inspired initially by traditional korean clothing but ffxiv is a fusion fantasy so I’m also throwing chinese (mostly ming which in itself has manchu influences and which in turn influenced modern hanbok), mongolian, and various ethnic groups of north and northeast asia into the mixing pot of his clan’s clothing. aka im giving myself a license to do whatever i want.

so I know I keep saying fusion ne asia/east russia culture for shilu’s clan like maybe some ainu clothing but I keep imagining him in hanbok and now I’m rethinking my worldbuilding.

Would they have horses? possibly. the area they live isn’t very good for horses but their ancestors could have brought a herd with them

So me and a few friends took shilu out on the town

he made a friend!

bad new guys... i think he ate too much cheese.

we had a good time tho took a walk along the river

he bought more baguettes

took him to build a bear workshop

got him one of these bad boys

its ok. he just took a nap for what is death but a final sleep. he dreamed he was a butterfly and when he woke did not know if he was a man who dreamed of a butterfly or was a butterfly dreaming of being a man

but what of memory. when the conscious ends, does not another begin, chaining all these lives all these days together are naught but memories 

so dream a sweet dream and be reborn with the dawn

Shilegus is a good boy, quiet but measured in his words, too bad he never comes to eorzea, probably. i talked about his clan's lifestyle before but i think they might keep a small herd of semi-domesticated deer that travel with them as well as some dogs. i know dogs in the past have been bred for their fur like sheep so may super fluffy dogs? their winter grounds in the valleys consist of many permanent structures.

i keep vacillating between yes they have metal working and no they dont. like i imagine the clan is named after bells because they used to be smiths for ritual and ornamental purposes but they got badly displaced several hundreds of years ago and maybe they retained metal working proficiency. or maybe they didn't, i like the idea that they use nailless and glueless architecture like a lot of traditional chinese architecture, because these buildings are meant to last generations.

in the summer they follow the deer in the high pastures of the alpine meadows and berry slopes so those shelters would be more mobile like the mongol yurt/ger.

i have so few clothes on this character so please realize that shilu's fashion sense is different than what I dress him up in, same as aurele really. im not quite sure what his clan's traditional clothes look like quite yet I’d need to look more into traditional clothing of the people of central, east, and north asia, maybe take a look at the indigenous people of far eastern russia? but im currently on the search to get shilu a floor length A-line or straight line dress.

so im starting to realize that i may not have thoughts things through.

in choosing to extenuate the characteristics unique to male xaela, i have unintentionally created a moe character gap in shilu. that sure is a sentence. but things only male xaela have are the really spikey videogame hairstyles AND have the hairstyle horn color match that of the big side horns since the horns tied to the hairstyles are all black/dark grey. shame really that they aren’t light colored for raen, but that means its only xaela that can best utilize them. next would be the auri face scales which combined with shilu’s very pale skin color makes a big contrast. next is that male xaela have grey sclera other au ra dont, and i dont know why, but with shilu’s pale eye color a limbal ring really really pops for him. all this means that visually Shilu gives of a harsh or stark impression which is the opposite of what his personality is like, he’s soft and quiet and rather gentle and wiser than his age would suggest. its gap moe.

I’d say cookie cookie is the same but i like the idea of him running around in the maid dress (if only the dev team would unlock it for male character models).
