japanese coffee shop culture exists it's just a little different? more like people idolizing the process of making coffee and a strange, almost dandy aesthetic. whereas in the west, it's generally seen as a bit more grungy/hipster, in japan it tends to be seen as more sophisticated (even if a bit nerdy). i feel like they're both equally pretentious, tho lmaoo i've never done research on it tho, just speaking from my experience living here for like ~6 years :)
yeah, it’s an entirely different kind of culture. It resembles more italian coffee shops than american ones. You drink coffee in small ceramic cups, and not in big paper go-to cups. Even the way the coffee is brewed is different.
I’m pretty sure that there’s still a fair share of shops that sell coffee the american way, but I feel like most of those are either big international corporations, or a minority of “exotic” themed shops.
As far as I know, most people drink canned coffee
I was whining about it because it’s one thing to make Hawks go to one of those japanese styled shops, and another to make him consume bad, diluted and overtly sweet american style coffee :’D he’s not much of a sophisticated guy... and just making him go to a conbini to buy canned coffee just doesn’t fit the kind of mood I was going for... though simplicity might be the best route
