Mashobra, shimla — the quiet one nobody talks about
okay so everyone goes to shimla. mall road, crowds, traffic, the usual.
but 13 km away there's this place called mashobra and it's basically shimla's calmer little sibling. misty hills, pine + oak + deodar trees everywhere, apple orchards, a stream running through the valley. people literally call it "quieter shimla" and it fits perfectly. things to do there: camping — the hills are perfect for it. most packages include lodging + food + bonfire. best in summer when you just wanna escape the heat. mahasu peak — if you're into the spiritual/traditional side of trips, this is the spot. the local festivals here are also worth catching if timing works out. craignano — a quiet little park at 7,700 ft along the shimla-naldehra highway. ₹50 entry, open 10am-5:30pm every day. great for a slow walk or picnic.
best time to go: june-sept if you love rain + green valleys + fog everywhere (tea on the balcony hits different) dec-feb if you want snow, sometimes you even catch live snowfall
getting there: ~13 km from shimla, 30-40 min drive. rent a bike honestly, the roads near shimla get super congested for cars. nearest railway station + airport are both in shimla itself.
anyway if you're tired of shimla being shimla, this is your sign
