The indoor and outdoor onsen. I was able to take pictures of this because i choose to do the onsen during dinner time when everyone else is having their meal so i got the whole onsen for myself. The proper way to do the onsen is to do it fully naked. Enjoy the hot spring 😃

ok but can we talk about how underrated Siliguri is as a travel base??

so here's the thing nobody tells you before you plan a Darjeeling or Sikkim trip: it all starts in Siliguri, and honestly, once you get the tours and travels part sorted from here, the rest of the trip just... flows. 🏔️

not trying to be dramatic but the wrong start = the wrong trip. so let's break it down.

siliguri is basically the hills' front door

everything routes through here —

✈️ Bagdogra airport

🚆 NJP railway station

🛣️ the main highway up to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Mirik

🗻 the road that eventually gets you to Gangtok + Sikkim

so if your travel plan starts messy in Siliguri, it stays messy the whole trip. ask me how I know.

things that WILL ruin your hill trip vibe

booking a cab that's not actually built for hill roads (your driver white-knuckling every turn is not the vibe)

no buffer day when the weather decides to do weather things

forgetting Sikkim needs permits for certain routes (yes even Nathula, yes you need paperwork)

assuming a Darjeeling day trip from Siliguri is "quick" — the drive alone eats your whole afternoon

what actually makes a trip smooth

a local team. that's it, that's the tweet.

someone who:

already knows which road is closed today

has a driver who's done the hill routes a hundred times

can shuffle your itinerary without a meltdown when it starts raining
