This past weekend with fellow SHINee fans was one of the most incredible weekends of my life.
Everything from road tripping with my best friend to Chicago, staying in a nice hotel, the pre-excitement and anticipation to just spending the whole weekend invested in listening and watching concert footage.
But I have to say, one of the most impressive parts about this experience was not SHINee (as incredible to see in person as they were), but it was honestly the fans. In the past I have had some very lousy experiences in various fandoms. Going to this concert I expected to be sitting next to some loud, shrieky girl who would be waving a sign insanely in my face or something else equally obnoxious. My friend and I were very anxious about having obstructed view or all around having the experience ruined by the fans.
However, none of that happened. The fans were one of the most amazing parts of this event! We came into the venue with a guard shouting that the show would start in 3 minutes, so after our purses were checked and tickets were scanned we BOLTED up the stairs to our balcony seats. Nothing was as exhilarating as racing inside to the song Runaway blaring on the speakers and hearing a whole chorus of girls singing along and sounding absolutely beautiful! The fans harmonies before and during the performances were one of the most memorable things to me about this event.
Seeing the crowd of glow sticks beating together and hearing everyone’s voices during the fanchants and able to be a part of it was an incredible and unforgettable feeling. I hope they do return, and to that venue specifically. It was a weekend I will never forget and am still coming down off the high of it.
