Jeffrey Scott âJeffâ Buckley (November 17, 1966 â May 29, 1997), was a singer-songwriter who got his started his career playing covers and working as a studio musician. Eventually, he started playing his own material He signed with Columbia Records formed a band, and recorded what would be his only studio album, Grace in 1994. The band spent the following three years touring to promote the album. They would stop often to try and work on a second album. Buckley is best known for his quivery and bluesy voice, his deep songwriting, guitar work, and giving a second life to Leonard Cohenâs beautiful song âHallelujahâ On May 29, 1997, while waiting for his bandmates in Memphis Buckley went for a spontaneous swim in the Mississippi River fully clothed he was found dead several days later. Buckley had a short but meaningful career. Young âsoulful and blues-influencedâ musicians are a dime a dozen with no heart it seems like they sell records and make money. Buckley was passionate. Buckley's short career still had a big impact on the world of music. He has been placed on various âTop List and received numerous posthumous awards. Buckley was a talented musician that people are discovering and learning to appreciate as well as an inspiring musician.
