also I just listened to official The Phrase That Pays vs the Nashville version and I want a million words on the pretty polished version vs the weird one lmao

i just had to go listen to them back to back and like. both versions of the song are great genuinely, there’s this way they use the guitar in the album version that’s reaaaaally fun and dark. but the ep is just so purely reflective of the “we really need to fucking make it here or else” storyline, the desperation, the frustration. i wish they’d gotten weirder as a band instead of increasing the polish (particularly by the third album.) and like i say that as a fob stan and apologist i don’t have a leg to stand on except that i think the intersection of pop and punk is completely perfected in fob and with tai it sort of made them less interesting for me.

i understand why viva la cobra and hot mess get the attention they do because they are fun, vibrant, kind of fucking insane, and the fully actualized version of gabe’s satirical vision. BUT. while the city sleeps we rule the streets is a fucking masterpiece, unbelievably weird and genre defying, and no one should listen to a single cobra starship song without first listening to being from new jersey means never having to say you’re sorry. like he literally lays out the entire vision in that song. “can you hear me now that i’m dumbing myself down?” it is the THESIS STATEMENT.

like exactly that version of the phrase that pays is SOOOOOO GOOD i think i heard the ep before i heard the album so to me those are THE versions of tptp, down and out, and black mamba. honestly yeah i don’t even care if no one else cares why not have a little bandom renaissance it can be 2007 if i want it to be

to me it is their greatest work to me it is a perfect little slice of emo to ME black mamba three in the morning partymix is the best song they’ve ever made something about that version is just a little more snide than regular black mamba which is deeply necessary to the themes. also i didn’t even know that was the name of that version until today because it was saved in my itunes as acoustic. so what a fun thing to learn. the melatonin is really doing a number on me rn i hope this made sense :)

Argh so sorry this took me forever! I first saw the ask on my phone then the notification went away and then I kept forgetting. 

Witch: I'd get rid of ignorance. That's the most encompassing thing I can think of that would fix the most amount of problems. 

Siren: This is kinda lame but I don't think I would. Like it'd be kinda shitty to make someone do something against their free will? Whoops. 

Genie: I would want for everyone in the entire world to be accepted for who they are.

3. If you were far from home and needed to sleep for the night, would you choose to rent a crappy motel room for $60 or sleep in your car for free?

Hmmm... I would probably sleep in my car. $60 is a lot of money, and if I had like pillows and blankets and stuff I could curl up in the trunk of my car and legit just pull the cover thing over so I'd have privacy and done. SUV perks. 

6. What is your favorite video game console? Why?

Probably PC. Because I feel like a lot of games get split between like playstation or xbox but are still available on PC. Which is why I need to get a proper gaming PC and stop trying to use my macbook for it. 

17. If you could see any musician live, front row, who would you choose?

Empires, no question. I know I already have seen them front row, but I'd love to get the option to see them again in that kind of environment because they're my favorite band and yeah.
