ReVision & DJ KrissFader - Voices (featuring Shining Sons & C-Los)
(VERSE ONE) [Intellect – Shining Sons]: Now let’s go back to 9-1-1 of year ’01 When the planes came on the other side of the sun But why they gotta rape the women on Philippine land While the army droppin’ bombs on Palestinian sand Mama telling me there’ll be days like this So much going on I’m losing patience for this We see the military heavy riding with 9’s But together we stand, never divided in lines Surviving is easier said than done But you all need to know how our people is One Corruption ain’t the answer to the things we tryna solve So much we gotta say but we ain’t doing to evolve We a diverse race and a new face of change Break free from chains of the slave minded brains It ain’t hard to tell so it’s time to mobilize Rectify, organize so we open up our eyes (VERSE TWO) [C-Los – The Committee]: For all the lies, the government's suspect In bed with the corporations after a plump check They makin mad paper its hand over fist But when the oil spills they turn a blind eye To the mammals and fish and the Gulf Coast residents Whose lives are dependent upon The coastline to survive how many more times Do we have to hear BP execs lie? Ask yourself this if a leak happened Where they lived, would they be so slow with a fix? Or if their paychecks were affected by this nonsense Would they suddenly have a heart or grow a conscience? Probably so but it’s guided by greed A sad reality when compassion is what we need So as a people, where do we begin? Positive change for the world starts from within (HOOK) (VERSE THREE) [Jedi – Shining Sons]: Now it’s been a long time since the peace went down These neighborhoods struggle, every heartbeat count It’s way too deep with the trouble that’s increasing With the roots you gotta look into and start believing My peeps on they own, passed away or chained up Behind the metal bars now they’re thinking “Is this enough?” Nowadays feel the pressure of a young one If it wasn’t for my past I wouldn’t be a Shining [Sun/Son] See the future, but the present, so much to worry Hearing bad news just make my eyes blurry Neighborhood gentrified, the rich arrives Land of the people getting fed with hate minds Retaliation in the making out of place and… Back to back, losing lives doesn’t make sense No one aiming for change, man I wish it would Flip this game over and let ’em know we staying stronger (VERSE FOUR) [ReVision – The Committee]: It’s no longer in our minds, it’s become an afterthought But 7 years later and we still in Iraq Well I guess it’s all good now that we got Barack People following and worshipping the ground that he walks It might be different but don’t that mean it’s changed It was a monumental step, but still got a long way Proposition 8 discriminate against gays Backed by the ones who are downright afraid Of the unknown, fail to see the error in their ways Preaching love, while really supporting hate Mehserle, a killer cop getting caught on tape Convicted by a jury still getting away With an easy sentence, so we gotta take a stand And demand Justice for Oscar Grant Cuz in the end we all got a choice The power lies within, utilize your Voice HOOK
Shining Sons - Women Hold Up Half The Sky
In honor of the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day on March 8th, 2011 "Relationships between men and women within the movement have to be based on more than purely emotional attachment. We must be united not for purely selfish reasons but for something bigger than both of us. The new woman, the new Filipina, is first and foremost a militant. The new Filipina is one who can stay whole nights with striking workers, learning from them the social realities which her bourgeois education has kept from her. She is a woman who has discovered the exalting realm of responsibility, a woman fully engaged in the making of history. No longer is she a woman-for-marriage, but more and more a woman-for-action. The new masculinity is revolutionary militance. Not Caucasian good looks, not the number of women conquered or bought, but the contribution he is making to the national democratic revolution enables the Filipino male to reclaim the manhood which his centuries of oppression took away. This is what has gained for him the total respect of the Filipino woman and a pride in him that is not founded on his proximity to excellence by western standards but a pride built on his rediscovered identity and dignity." -Lorena Barros, student, poet, revolutionary, and founder of the militant women's organization MAKIBAKA www.facebook.com/pages/MA-LORENA-M-BARROS-1948-1976/110896796313?sk=wall Intellect: To all the women in my life that I appreciate From the past and my sistahs keep it real today Someone like Gabriela or like Angela But never to be the type on tv like Pamela Like Lorena, yeah fight to free the motherland For womens rights, yeah my people need to understand But we fight together, never love each other less Like Diego and Gabriela....... the struggle never rest For the mothers all waitin in line Just know that change will be comin in time In this movement, gotta be consistent Liberate my sistahs gotta be persistent Everyday need to educate the worst minds Struggle together so we break the worst binds Let me see that fist up, let the struggle unfold Tell the story of the movement that was untold Chorus: Sheroes in my life, they all a part of me Can't stop, won't stop til we all are free Recognize that it's time to break dividing lines It is true that women hold up half the sky Jedi: Most of us so-called men need to understand Labeling women words that's so out of hand Appreciate, you shouldn't ever dominate Spitting the same lines like Lil' Weezy and Drake So strong like Gabriela Silang Empowerment for the future passing the baton These other lame gentlemen really gotta see When we fight for freedom, men and women gotta be free Video vixens paid green just to pose End the prostitution and fuck being sold I can't deny that my momma raised me Scratch that old masculinity, freedom is the goal It's no justice no peace living on these streets More power to all women love life indeed Mix it up switch it up more militant Sheros in the past and present got the strength to win
