@shinjuwahime:
"I can’t believe we’ve just sat here for four hours and have done nothing."
she does have a point. it has been four hours since the two stepped foot in the studio and sat down to begin composing. they’re inclined to blame themself for the time it’s taken to even think about producing anything ; they aren’t used to the hubbub of audio engineers and publishers and the press, the polished, unused sheen of the mixers and turntables, the overall situation in which they’ve been thrown into -- sitting beside an idol they barely know with no octarian crutch to lean upon. it’s stressful, and it makes their weary mind wander a bit too far out of reach, taking their ability to speak coherently with it.
they’re not sure whether pearl is speaking to them, someone else in the studio, or even just herself. as innocuous as the statement may be, it does sting them a little. with blackened fingers they rub at their eyes, other hand removing their hat and settling it within their lap.
❛ ‘s hard. ❜ their voice is as rough as ever, forced out before their bubbling nerves can compress it back within them. it’s pushed out in their best attempt at the inkling language -- though still accented enough that their foreign status is obvious. they clear their throat, gaze falling at her feet and hands falling to fidget with their hat. hopefully, she won’t think too much of their meagre attempt at consolation.

Ever since he struck gold with his monster movie, Morty was hastily starting production on his next film. He already had his idea planned out; A rags to riches story, a story of a woman who works to become the queen of her nation! Sure, that plot was done to death already, but all his movies were so tropey it hurt. The director had everything planned out, the plot synopsis, all the story arcs, many of the set pieces, and even some of the cast. Almost everything was working out in his favor, the cast and crew were coming together very well. There was only one problem...
He couldn’t find the leading actress.
Every potential suitor for this role either declined, or didn’t answer. Although this happened last time before he found Luigi, it was still frustrating. What could it be? Could they all just be busy by coincidence? Could they just not be interested in the (admittedly corny) plot? Could it be... that since he’s a ghost, people are generally unwilling to work with them? No, it couldn’t be that last one. Why would that be the case? He was a friendly old director, that was all. Losing his patience, Morty decided to take a trip around the hotel. If no one else was available, surely one of his coworkers in the building would want to participate, right? Surely one of the triplets would be interested, if anybody.
"Say! I've been wonderin'. If you and Marie got a redo of a Splatfest, what one would y'all pick?" -shinjuwahime
“Man, I don’t even remember most of the splatfests we did. It was all kind of a blur. What team I was on, who won or not... I’m sure our fans would want Callie vs. Marie again but there’s no way we’re doing that. Sorry if that answer sucks!”
