          The one before her was definitely unusual. Upon catching sight of them, Rose had immediately gotten the sense that they were a Gem, but at the same time they were not. How odd - usually she had a knack for telling that sort of difference. Either way, they were most certainly not an organic being - and even the smallest of similarities could give way for a common ground that would allow Rose to quench her curiosity on the other. 

          ❝ Are you... a Gem ? ❞  she was gentle in the way she approached the other who had also been examining Rose - and of course Rose didn’t mind such a thing, curiosity was understandable in a situation like this. ❝ I’ve never seen any Gem like you before if you are. Perhaps from a new colony ? ❞ The later question was more so the Gem questioning herself on possible sights of production that Homeworld could have spread to, and she pursed her lips in thought. The vibrant red of the stranger’s hair brought several possible Gems to mind - rubies ( though they did not match a Ruby’s appearance ), an agate or even an apatite. And yet, they all seemed wrong.

It isn’t hard to find gems in a crowd of humans and other organic lifeforms. Gems are inorganic, after all. It is more than their lack of “bodily functions,” as humans call them. It is their essence, their aura, more than anything that makes then stand out among others. They neither possess confidence nor lack it, as there is no need when each gem is made for one task and one task alone. Or so it would seem, but the presence of a strange gem standing on the ocean’s shore brings that, and plenty else, into question.

Because they are alone and because she has never seen them in Beach City, Lapis can only assume they are from Homeworld — yet they are unfamiliar, as she cannot recognize their composition (though it’s clear that their whole body is their gem). Perhaps... they aren’t from Homeworld at all. Or maybe, like her, they’ve abandoned it. Or maybe... she should just ask.

“Um... hi. I’m Lapis — Lapis Lazuli.” As soon as she speaks, her body tenses, as if preparing for a battle she feels is all but inevitable. “I can tell you’re a gem, but... I’ve never seen one like you before.”

It was also a sentient being with feelings who could speak, and did so in a cutesy manner.

Gemstone Headcanons

Chalcedony: How do they consider their allies in regards to themself? Do they reach out to them, or do they typically keep to themself?

Chihiro considers most people they meet and spend time with some sort of friend, whether it be an acquaintance or more. Basically, if you don’t get angry at them for talking about programming, or for apologizing so much, they’ll be extremely grateful!When it comes to reaching out, if they consider the person trustworthy, Chihiro will definitely reach out for help. If they don’t know you well, or you’ve scared them off in some way, they’ll likely keep to themself.

Jade: What are their opinions on luck? Do they believe in it?

After being in a killing game with the Ultimate Luck student, they definitely believe in it more than they had before. Certainly they believe that lots of happenings in life are the result of numerous choices and actions... But some things with such slim chances, such as being picked in a raffle, or that Aoi just happened to be in the dining hall at night to solidify an alibi... Some things are just up to luck.

     “Hello! I hope you don’t mind me asking, but... have you heard of       Shel Silverstein?”

Probably the oddest question she’s asked, but seeing someone so alone out there made her feel... sad? nostalgic? They reminded her a little bit of Yuri, being a wallflower and all, so Monika couldn’t help herself. The sadness and guilt in her heart was strong, even if she told herself that it shouldn’t be ( because yuri and the others weren’t real and she didn’t need to feel guilty about deleting them, right? ); maybe she was just trying to atone without actually apologizing.

     “You seemed kinda lonely sitting over here, so I was thinking maybe      we could read some poems together! That’s probably a weird thing      though, so I’ll understand if you say ‘no’.”
