Hi again!

Lol this is the third ask I've sent now (sorry for staying anon I'm using an old account that has nothing to do with hockey) but honestly, while I was initially sorta on the fence about all of this AI stuff I'm now pretty much fully on your side like now that I'm aware of it I've been looking through the Willmack tag and actually giving a bunch of fics more than 30 seconds of reading instead of just closing it after not liking it and.... yeah the AI use is pretty blatant on a lot of these fics. There's a certain structure that really stands out to me where the paragraphs are all very short, like to the point where it's hard to find any block of text longer than four lines at most, and that's the main thing that is really sticking out to me. Also, overuse of short sentence fragments to build suspense (which: there's definitely a time and a place for sentence fragments, but when it's every other sentence it's def a red flag). I know you detailed all of the things that stuck out as AI before but those are just my thoughts.

N E ways I just wanted to ask 2 random questions:

- I see you're into SidGeno and mcdrai (both rightfully so in my opinion) and I was wondering if you ever read KaneToews?? I get it if not because Patrick Kane is literally a confirmed awful person, but unfortunately some of my favorite fics of all time are in that pairing and I'm always looking for anyone else who still remembers the days of Kane/Toews (in an entirely fictional, RPF way - I do not support them as people at all whatsoever) And I also know you're into Gabe Perrault - any interest in the Matt Rempe/Gabe Perrault pairing?? This has taken hold of me recently out of nowhere, and I can't get enough of those fics. Unfortunately I fear that the AI use has infiltrated that tag (to a lesser degree than WillMack, but still) so there are only a handful of good fics but Ive been watching that tag like a hawk ever since that rangers hockey camp video where Gabe just looked totally besotted.

- Do you have some favorite fics and/or authors that you might recommend? They don't have to be WillMack or any of the above mentioned tags but I am always looking for more stuff to read so if you have any great fics that you know of I'd love to check them out!

Hello and thank you for the asks! I love talking, so don't worry about sending me anything, although I will warn you I am hibernating after today. I don't make a habit of using tumblr anymore after almost 10 years on it.

I'm really glad that you were able to see for yourself what I was talking about, and I hope that it doesn't discourage you from reading hrpf or other fanworks or original works :( It's disappointing for sure that this has become a standard, but I firmly believe that the spirit of true human artistry will eventually thoroughly squish AI in creative spaces. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

To answer your questions, I've been into hrpf since I was a teenager. I started actually watching games properly about two seasons ago, and got SUPER INTENSE last season, but I've followed hockey as a sport since my first or second year of college (and by extension kept up with the yaoi.) I have read almost everything in the Kane/Toews tag (my favorite being the lesbian ones...) but as they're both horrible people I've gone back and purged my bookmarks completely. Tl;dr I remember, but I don't want to talk about them. :(

ALSO, funny that you ask about mattgabe - my friends (khia asylum) and I have been following the pair since there was 1 work in the tag LOL and all three of us are working on fics and art for it! ^^ The encroachment of one of the willmack AI "authors" into mattgabe was actually a driving force behind me getting fed up; I switched ship tags so I wouldn't have to see them and then our group chat was all at once like "OH MY GOD ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME" when we saw who showed up. I think about that rangers vid everyday and I'm really excited that actual cool people who can write with their own brains are starting to take interest! Yippie!!!!!!

On fic recommendations - I can raid my bookmarks, but that'll be a really long post ToT... I read and process extremely fast because of reasons I won't get into unless asked. If you can give me a pairing that intrigues you I'll link some faves, but for now I will hand you my willmacks :3 in no particular order but I liked all of these fics a lot. vanilla will always say he couldn’t possibly list what he loves most about shay—he just doesn’t think it’s anybody’s business.

but… he also knows that if he tried, his list would be far too long.

he loves the way she carries herself; that she’s feisty and ruthless when she needs to be, not taking shit from anyone or ever shying away from a confrontation… but he knows that she’s an incredibly loving and supportive person behind that ‘tough as nails’ façade she wears.

he loves how she treats him, showing him a side of her that nobody else gets to see. she listens to everything he says and remembers the little things he’s only mentioned once in passing, such as how he likes ta’ameya over typical falafel, green olives more than black olives, and his favorite prince album among other things.

he loves that she helped him find himself again in the turbulent grief filled months after the events of stardust crusaders. how she refuses to leave his side on his lowest days, even the days where she has to give him the help and tough love necessary to preventing him from latching onto her like he did with DIO, no matter how much it hurts.

he loves how she’ll listen to him talk about his culture; the bits he was able to experience growing up before his father passed, the bits he experienced while living in cairo, and the bits he wants to experience—even though she understands next to none of the arabic words he says to her.

he loves how she lets him hold her at night, the tender sleepy kisses she gives him every morning, and the way she’ll drape a leg over him whenever they cuddle so she can give him what she calls a “full body hug”.

he loves that she keeps him grounded and treats him like a king, especially on days where he feels like he doesn’t deserve it. she’ll use her stand on him anytime he needs to cry, because she knows he hates it when people hear him like that.

he loves all the little things about her too; the way her swedish comes out whenever she’s spooked or extremely tired, how she’ll just go on and on and on about what interests her, the fact she that she gave him three beautiful kids despite how hard it was on her body… his list goes on.
