Quick? Yes Understandable? Also Yes
I'm seeing a fair few skeptics of the Freylin ship. Mainly it seems because of how fast Merlin seems to fall for Freya/they seem to fall for each other.
While I do understand the point of view. I'd like to put in my two cents of defense.
Put yourself in Merlin's shoes. Your in a place where the very thing your born with is illegal. Only one other person knows about you and even they are cautious around it. You live in fear of being found out and bury emotions every single day. You have no one you can really talk to or relax around. You always have to hide a part of yourself.
Then you meet this person this girl who not only would have a longer life span as a Druid. So would be able to grasp you being immortal. But also:
She has magic to
You finally have a person you don't have to hide from. Who understands your fear. Who understands your feeling of being an outsider/monster. Who you can show the beauty of your magic where no one else sees it.
All of us outcasts who see ourselves in Merlin...can we REALLY say WE WOULDN'T fall in love almost instantly in that situation as well? If we found a person who accepted us, who understood us, who saw the good in us rather than the 'evil'?
Also I would like to point out that I don't believe 2x09 simply took place over one day. We know that there was at least one night that Merlin brought Freya food. Plus at least one day for him to sneak the dress he got to her. It wasn't a real 'love at first sight.' Conversations did happen.
Bottom line:
Did Freylin fall for each other quickly? Yes. But is it UNDERSTANDABLE that they would? ALSO YES.
