Shipcards
Okay but what about an AU in which instead of Pokemoncards there were these things called Shipcards (a mix between Pokemoncards with different strengths and Happy Families cards) and there was this special set with all the glitters and shine called ‘Queens’ featuring the Ice Queen (Miranda Priestly), The Evil Queen (Regina Mills) and The Queen of All Media (Cat Grant). And then these goofballs Andy, Emma and Kara are obviously millenials that grow up with this right? So Andy is a fan from the first hour on. She has a neat little map where she keeps her cards. One Christmas Andy gets a package, and she gets all exhilarated when she sees glitters when she opens it but they’re pink and even though she is overjoyed with a Queencard she hoped it would be the Ice Queen instead of The Queen of All Media. Still, throughout the years she collects most of the cards, and the kids in the schoolyard are often willing to trade with her because she is honest and sweet. When everyone around her grows up Andy does too, but when Nate suggest she gives the cards away to her nephew because they dont have much space in the appartment he sleeps on the couch for two days. Kara’s first material thing on earth that she truly got attached to were the Shipcards because they looked so pretty and it helped her remember things about humans. For example the difference between a Shipcard character that got described as snarky vs a character described as snide, and it told her about approprate favourite foods to have such as lasagna instead of pancakes with apple sauce and mayonaise. The Queen set was her absolute favourite set because they truly seemed to make a difference on this planet. In fact she never grows out of it and sometimes buys a package, giddy with the prostpect of perhaps receiving a Queen this time. Winn stutters while James laughs really hard when they find her carefully opening one during her lunchbreak on a particularly challenging day with Cat being dissatisfied with everything and everyone while looking absolutely gorgeous. ‘Supergirl - again’ she mutters when she sees the first card but underneath it is one with - oh Rao- glitters! Her Kryptonian heart beats loudly only to falter slightly. Well, Ice Queen is great obviously, but perhaps she had hoped a little for The Queen of All Media. Who is now looking at her with an arched eyebrow through the Bullpen, whoops back to work it is.
Emma never got presents from her foster families, and while she didnt really give a shit about most stuff, she longed to be like the other kids with their fancy collections Shipcards. Not that she would ever show it- she knows better than that, but how amazing would it be to have a collection of them, and get the real powerful ones. They were the coolest thing on earth. Sometimes she feels like a Shipcard herself, one that no one wants because she keeps being traded around. Handed over but never really fitting a set. She tries really hard to not let it get to her. By the time she fourteen she decides to walk away from her current foster family. It is not that they will notice anyway. And her ‘brother’ tries to hit her and hit on her and she has had enough. When she packs her stuff - a bag of clothes is all- she walks into his room, where a big pile of cards is lying on the desk. She knows exactly where it is, fourth card from above because it is a powerfull card but he thinks women are weak. Without waking him she picks the card from the stack. The dark purple glitters shine a little even with the little light that is in the room. The Evil Queen. She pockets the card on the inside of her jacket. And lives on her own from that moment on. Right? and obv. Kara and Andy will trade at some point while Emma will keep the card with her whenever and even though she and Regina fight all the time when they meet she keeps it because maybe it is embarrassing what Regina has meant to her all these years but she cant say goodbye to something that helped her find her strenght so often. But then also, imagine this: Cat personally being responsible for releasing the Supergirl Shipcard. It is a very regular card so within no time everyone has a Supergirl card which makes for a lot of autographs and she understands Cat did not want to withold Supergirl from anyone. Still, Kara thinks Cat doesn’t care because she doesnt get a card herself. Until she finds out Cat has a personal -unreleased- design for a Shipcard of Kara. On it is the skill printed ‘+ Loved forever if combined with Cat Grant’. Miranda Priestly not caring about these cards because her Bobbseys have just been born when they are launched, and who would care for cards on which most people who are depicted wear abhorrent clothes? Until Andrea is her assistant and her girls get into this vintage collecting thing called Shipping -really, who came up with this label- and her darlings bond with Andy over all these different versions and sets. This, of course, happens initially during the deliverly of the book but soon her girls ask Andrea over for dinner and walks in the park and if she sits with them while pretending to go over the book or goes with them pretending to walk patricia, well, she cant really be blamed for picking up a few details about her assistants life and hobbies can she? Until she feels perhaps a bit irrational when she finds out Andrea has a Shipcard of a certain Mr. Thompson, which she claims “is from a long time ago“, and she takes it out on the girl. Luckily, by that time, Andrea is no longer scared of her and when she wraps Miranda in those ridicculous warm arms of her while whispering ‘you’re better than any card I’ll ever have’, well, she cant be blamed for seizing the oppertunity to kiss the girl, can she? Regina trying to get hold of all cards of the Saviour. Every. Single. Last. One. Of. Them. To destroy them of course. Until, Emma and she fight right after their first time sleeping together, because Regina is complicated and Emma doesn’t do feelings but in utter anger Emma accidentally transports herself to Regina’s Vault where there are stacks and stacks of Saviour cards. Unmarred, neatly piled, and shiney gold. And Emma cries. And kisses her over and over while murmuring ‘you kept me.’
