*breathes* yes...give me the she/they headcanons...
omg i was gonna make my own post on why asami is a she/they so thanks for the ask!!!
asami never really questioned their gender much growing up bc she didn’t NOT identify as a girl
they also couldn’t really afford to because they were supposed to be the perfect poster child of future industries
she spent so much of her life confining herself to boxes to be daddy’s perfect little girl that gender was just another box she had to put herself in-they didn’t even blink twice at it
even after she’s estranged from her father, they’re a bit too busy saving the world to think about it
it’s right after kuvira is defeated that they realize “woman” might not be the best label to describe her
once she and korra start dating, they both look to kya to be their mentor for navigating wlw relationships
and as it happens, kya uses they/them pronouns, so baby nonbinary asami immediately latches onto them because “i JuSt ThInK tHeY’rE nEaT”
she starts asking kya a lot of questions about gender, like if it’s possible to use multiple pronouns
of course kya says yes, and when they tell her about she/they pronouns, she’s like tHAT’S IT
after they figure out their pronouns, they start to consider the implications that has on their gender, and they decide that they’re nonbinary
but they enjoy the feminine side of gender expression, though she does experiment
they tell korra pretty much as soon as they’re finished working out their identity for the most part, and asks her to use she/they pronouns in private
when korra first uses they pronouns for them, they experience gender euphoria for the first time:)))
she doesn’t know when she’s going to tell everyone else about their identity, but for now korra and kya knowing is enough for them
