She cleared her throat, not bothering to take more than a passing glance at the menu board, and the barista’s head jerked up, her notebook and pen dropping out of sight. Behind her glasses, her eyes were an even more vivid, electric blue than her hair, planting goosebumps along Maki’s arms.

Maki needs a new job. A serendipitous encounter might just give her a lead.
