Night Rain || Goldenrod City Station
It was a rainy day in Goldenrod City, and there was no sign the storm was going to go away anytime soon. N had spent over a week in the city, much longer than he had originally planned since he was only passing through on his way to the Kanto Region, but the dilly-dallying had been worth it while it lasted. There was more to see and do in this place than in most other cities. The metropolis was full of interesting people, pokemon and attractions. Best described, Goldenrod was a city of wonder and he wouldn’t have minded staying even longer. He enjoyed his time here, even after losing an unfair amount of money playing games, but this rain was a sign he should go.
He remembered what it was like in the older pokemon games when it rained. He never hesitated to save outside or train his friends in the weather. The only purpose of the change in weather setting was to help make the world of pokemon more real in those past games and of course to boost the accuracy of some electric type moves. However, today, in this virtual reality, the rain felt real. It was wet and the wind made it cold too. It made him thankful Goldenrod City Station was indoors.
But it was also crowded. Whatever players had not found somewhere to stay away from the bad weather had, like him, decided today was the day to move on to Saffron City and the Kanto region. The Magnet Train, as it was called, ran every day every fifteen minutes and was one of the best ways to travel between the Kanto and Johto regions.
After several minutes of waiting for the train to depart at it’s scheduled time, the doors finally opened and he and the other players who had purchased tickets boarded. Mildly self-conscious of the small guild mark that floated next to him when around a crowd, N settled near the door of the train. The doors closed and everyone waited for the train to begin moving, but nothing happened.
People began to talk. What was going on? Was the train broken somehow? Similar thoughts occupied N’s mind, but all thoughts and chatter came to an end as the players inside the train were finally greeted with the unsettling groan of metal as the train tried to stutter to a start. It stopped without moving and two people ran by, heading toward the city. Those uniforms—
"Wait! Stop!" N exclaimed, pulling the lever by the train door and starting after the pair.
His chase ended as he rounded a corner and encountered a maze of alleys. There would be no finding them with the rain. People using these routes to get to the train for the next boarding time had made the station too crowded too. He considered the situation for a moment. If the train wasn’t working and it wasn’t because of an in-game event (as there was no quest option…), then he had no doubt those two were involved and that they were Team Rocket. But how? And why? And where had they gone? They had to have gone somewhere. Someone may have seen them.
A quick glance at his surroundings told him that most of the crowd, in this area at least, was made up of NPCs. Only a few looked like players. He tapped the shoulder of a girl passing by. He didn’t know if she was heading to or from the train, or if she was even here when Team Rocket ran by, but she was his best hope.
“Excuse me,” he asked, “some people ran by here… They would have been wearing uniforms. I think they disabled the train. Did you see them?”
