Why haven't you asked me before...?
“if we’re being honest, shiro, it’s because i know i could ask you to drag me away from the vanguard, and you would do it. i cannot allow that risk.”

For a moment a thousand eyes and whispers surround the form of Toland before reality reverted back to normal.
“he said to you he’d give it all away, the fickle fool.” ikora’s head shakes. she turns from shiro, a hint of bitterness and sorrow in her eyes. she doesn’t know what more she can do or say to make the world right. to fix what has been taken from them. “we both know what he would do in situation. but what should we do?”

Adventures of a Baby, V. 3
The larvae had been crawling around the base looking for sustenance, or a host for what felt like a millennium. While in actuality only a matter of hours, the little wyrm was starting to feel the effects of being without a host. It finally came to halt, flopping on its side in exhaustion. Its parent’s command still rang in its mind, too deafening to resist (as much as the wyrm would have liked to).
The clank, clank, clank of approaching footsteps caused the little wyrm to cease its pathetic whimpering. It flared its mandibles, tasting the air, and was met with the metallic tang of metal. The other creatures that the larvae had encountered in this place were afflicted with the taint of light, and the young wyrm had been much too young and weak to fight them and subject them to its will. Perhaps if they had had a deal with the wyrm gods or the taint of darkness....
But whatever this creature was, it was a blank slate. It carried neither light nor dark, only the clanking of mechanical parts. On the verge of death, this was the only plausible host the larvae had thus encountered. As the noise approached, the wyrm rolled itself back to its feet and prepared to attack. As the patrolling redjack turned the corner, it didn’t even have time to analyze the situation before a screeching larvae was launching itself at the frame.
Adventures of a Baby, V. 2
The young larvae that had followed Shiro home had managed to squirm to the safety of a garbage bin. Being separated from a host was starting to wear on the young wyrm, but the rotting remnants of half-eaten meals was enough to curb their appetite. For a matter of hours, that was. There was a loud crunch as the larvae bit through the bottom of the bin, snapping the plastic and sending its contents spilling across the room. All that was left were a few candy wrappers left sticking to the larvae’s moist skin.
With an irritated squeak, the larvae started to squirm across the floor, following the scent of its target, Shiro.
Adventures of a Baby
The larvae that had attached itself to Shiro’s cloak remained hidden as long as possible, but it was not meant to exist outside a host. After only a matter of hours, the hunger and exposure began to wear on the little creature. Out of desperation, it started to feast on the hunter’s cape. As sustenance, though, the fabric was useless. After only a few bites, the weakened creature fell to the ground with an audible plop. It gave a quiet hiss of protest as it plummeted.
