"Shiroyasha" Gintoki's war name- has multiple translations in the Gintama anime:

"White Demon"

and

"White Knight."

The anime switches between them, and never really fully made up its mind on which to use and when (typical Gintama lol). Here is my headcanon: "White Demon" is what the Amanto called Gintoki during the war. He was their enemy who brutally slayed many. Even though the humans lost the war, Gintoki's name Shiroyasha was still feared after the war ended by those who remembered him, hence "demon". "White Knight" implies a protector. Gintoki's allies referred to him as such, since he saved many human lives on the battlefield, and risked everything to protect all in his sword's reach. He was remembered fondly as such by those who survived the war, and by many of his fallen comrades in arms who fought by his side.

I was watching the Gintama live action, and this came to me. I felt like I had a big brain moment, and wanted to share with you guys. Feel free to use this headcanon wherever.
