BALDUR'S GATE 3 - Astarion
🌿 Does your Rook have any tattoos? What was the moment when they got them like? How did they earn their vallaslin?
Oh man I'm so late to this :'D But Taren does indeed have quite the array of tattoos:
(tumblr I'm begging you not to murder me the nipples are Not female-presenting)
In the order in which they got them:
They earned their vallaslin after living with Clan Aldwir about a year. They'd stumbled into the clan's land one day, begging to exchange a bagful of stolen books on elven lore and language for shelter. The clan said 'don't be stupid. you don't need to barter for that. you're our child now.' The books ended up containing a lot of things that had been kept from the Dalish, and Taren stayed up Many nights with the Keeper, helping to translate everything. Once they'd lived with the clan long enough that they were sure they wanted to stay, the Keeper had no hesitations about giving them Dirthamen's vallaslin.
The central tattoo was something they got to celebrate figuring out their gender! I think after they got their top surgery and changed their name they wanted to do something else to celebrate their body and how they'd made it their own.
The sleeve tattoo was something they got after their husband died (yes I chanelled Orym Criticalrole a bit here aksjds). In my head, the patterns are symbolic, representing memory, love, etc.
I also headcanon that they eventually get the other arm tattooed as well with patterns that symbolise their time with the Veilguard - from the people they lost (Varric and Harding) to the people they gained. There's definitely something to represent their love for Emmrich there.
Tl;dr Taren's journey of coming to love and celebrate their body in all its scarred, trans beauty is everything to me.
