i am having some serious deja vu right now right now
Some of my additional Adam Warren related swag from ECCC this year:
-An original sketch template rough for a splash page in Volume 10 (complete with a teeny spoiler in Adam’s notes!) I’ve put it next to the finished splash page in the actual print version for comparison. I’m so stoked to have one of these. I was sorely, SORELY tempted to get one of the finished pages, but could not really justify the extra cash at that time for one. One of the prelim sketch pages is certainly a rare enough treat. I find it interesting he does his prelims on regular 8x10 copy paper, and only flushes them out on big 11x17 Bristol board later. -Empowered Extra Sketchiness, signed not once, not twice, but THREE times (!!!) as well as a quickie Emp sketch. Extra Sketchiness was a bunch of bonus sketches and some commissions relating to Empowered that didn’t make it into official volumes. This was the first drawing I think he did for the day, and so he signed it once with a black marker, and then wanted to see if his fancy gold one worked and signed over it again, lol. I’m pretty sure Extra Sketchiness is already signed as it seems to generally be a convention exclusive (and that signature moves around depending on which image of the cover you see). I was over the moon to have this book, because at that point, I had just paid for that book and handed over a rather tasty sum of cash to pay for the Shofie commission he’d be working on later that day. It was nice just to have something in my hands that Adam signed and doodled on. On day two, we came back and hit the booth up again: -A very rare 1994 Bubblegum Crisis Grand Mal promotional poster, that he also signed and drew on it. (Rhen snagged one of these too, but Adam accidentally started drawing Emp on it, and recovered nicely and made her a Priss. “It was always Priss, and it was never anyone else!”)
-Not pictured: An autographed copy of Empowered Unchained with a sketch of Emp in the front. Empowered Unchained was a collection of one-shots all housed in one book. Some of them are drawn by Adam, but most of them are drawn by other artists.
-Last but not least, Adam graciously offered to pose for a picture holding up the fanart we took him. This was AFTER he asked us if he could take a pic of us holding it! I was so excited I was shaking and so nervous, goodness. Adam is a super chill dude, and he told me Shofie was cute, that he loved drawing her big arms, and he loved my art, and man y’all, I dunno if there’s anything more flattering than your favorite artist in the whole world--an artist you have based your own style on--asking you, “Hey, where’s your booth?” (!!!) and wanting to share with his fans the fun fanart you did for him. Like DANG! I’m not kidding when I say it was the best day of my life. Truly, it was downright magical and I will treasure that memory for the rest of my days. I’m already so excited about the possibility of going again next year. (I’ll see if I can get Adam to draw Rhen next time!)
